Thanks a lot! But I'm actually doing this for me. I always wanted to create a sort of service where everyone can share their experiences without relying only on their subjectivity. you have no IDEA how much this helped. I JUST LANDED MY FIRST TRE FLIP 30 mins after watching this video. HOLY SHIT ITS 1:30 AM AND IM GOING NUTS BRO NUUUUUUTS 1 and a half years after standing on a board I finally land one. I sincerely thank you
Brilliant video! There's many factors involved including posture of the hips and shoulders, and the pressure points on the board and the band of tension between them. Using blender to illustrate this is very helpful.
I never heard to concept of jumping BEFORE you start your trick. Even without trying it, it already makes way more for almost any trick. Thanks for visualizing it this well. Great stuff!!
Man this video was absolutely amazing!! Like really so good! Scooping when your momentum's going up is such a solid recommendation. The only part I would disagree with is the pause at the bottom, this is because something that contributes a lot to the power we can generate in a vertical jump/popping a trick are the elastic structures in and around your muscles and joints. They essentially work like an elastic band that's pulled back and released - building on top of the force you could create with your muscles alone - this process is known as the 'stretch shortening cycle' (SSC). The more you pause, the more the stored energy in the SSC is dissipated as heat. Instead, I would recommend developing the SSC and your ability to create power over pausing at the bottom (there are exercises on my channel to do this). Anyway, thanks for the vid! You gained a subscriber!
Just found your channel. I’m in my third year studying engineering at school and feel like I’ve been waiting for your channel all my life. I love these types of breakdowns for tricks.
Praise the algorithm!!! Great info and breakdown!! It really helps put it all into perspective when you start thinking about the physics involved. Thanks for the great video!! Science!!!! 🤘🤙
Wow you just showed up in my recommended, but this is a really fascinating channel. Great video and channel! I'm mechanical engineer and this physics analysis of the tricks motion really made me understand my skateboard tricks so much better. Cannot wait for other videos. Cheers from Brazil!
Sounds good. Please let me know what you have in your mind though. I’m guessing I could make a video about “the importance of using shoulders in fs/bs 180” or something. But other tricks like bigspins or bs360s also require the use of shoulders. Any specific trick you would like me to talk about?
@@whythetrick bs360 is a solid one. My doubt when doing 180s is where to put my weight during the rotation, like where is the best place to put the angle of rotation and where to look (like should i start looking foward and then land looking backwards?) Thanks for the content again!!

you have earned yourself a new subscriber friend. from this very simple analysis of the weight distribution I have literally somehow managed to unlock nollie 3shuvs and my ollies and kickflips have never popped so high or felt so natural. wow, I am flabbergasted bro!
I just spent 2 years watching every youtube video with no luck and just going out and practicing every day until I finally figured out flatground tre flips. And then you decide to upload this, AFTER I finally figured all this out. Great video, you're the only person to upload a video that even comes close to properly explaining this trick.
Really appreciate and admire the amount of effort it took to make this video, just subbed and looking forward to watching and learning more from this channel!!
Amazing video! Loved it! The main problem i see for people who want to tre flip is that they put all their weight on their back foot. This makes the trick so much harder to actually do. Because you basically jump backwards and your board pops forward. So instead of holding it on the Blackfoot you have to hold your weight on the front foot. Hope this helps someone :)
Interesting. When young , I could treflip on lock. These days, I struggle like some extracts in your vid, not enough flip. Today I landed one perfect out of more than 50 tries. At least. I will follow your advises and see what happens. Thanks!
Super helpful! I am that guy who has struggle bussed with tre flips forever. Going to apply these physics concepts next time and get this trick wired for once! Thanks so much
Dont give up. There's some tricks i cant do to save my life and ive been working on them since my teens.. Like anything with a late flip, like Hospital flips. Their just too much to fast for me. Just kinda work on your own style and have fun.
No skate vid has been so in depth going into the physics like this! Def followed for more tips, it’s a lot more than just learning the body movements. I feel like I can go give it another try, thanks!
What a complete and didactic video I've just seen. Man, you are amazing your video brings together two brilliant concept skating and physicomechanical.
brilliant brilliant work. I am amazed at the amazingly simple concepts that are still so easy to not realize. you laid this out so well. Now I understand also how to get so much more pop, as you need to be nearly leaving your board before you pop it/scoop it
This is actually a really well thought out explanation of skateboarding motorskills. I may be wrong but in my experience almost any time I've over heard, or been asked to give trick advice on how to do ollies or other things, we all tend to start by explaining with the motion required by our feet, rather than the first goal. Now obviously when we're giving ollie advice we explain that you have to snap your tail on the ground before sliding your front foot up the board to level it out while jumping. but more emphasis definitely needs to be made on the crouching and jumping aspects before all that other shit. Good analysis.
you are right. although this one's about treflips, the same concept should apply to other tricks including ollies. jump>>>pop. there's a big difference but we tend to forget about this.
I have not done these tricks in years but as you explain some of the physics, dots are being connected in muscle memories. Now I think I could tell some one how to land it quicker.
this is great info which made me realize why I ghost pop once in a while. It's not that I didn't pop the tail hard enough - it's that my front foot pushed down for too long into the move. I need to release my front foot weight on time. if done correctly, as you stated, the skateboard requires very little force to pop.
This generation is lucky for tutorials with internet. I quit skating in 1991. Last trick I learned was treflip. Back then it was a lot of work to figure out how to do them. Had a VCR with slow motion playback. I wish I had internet back then...but the hard work and effort to learn a trick was so satisfying to me.
The tip of holding your movement at the bottom of your crouch is a huge eye opener for any trick. That timing will help your pop for all tricks not just those involving a scoop.
Wow. this is incredible. Such a detailed and well explained video! I have never seen someone explain the treflip so well. I've been struggling with treflips for over 6 years now! I've put in countless hours but still don't have them consistent. This video has helped me alot
