    I got 10 the week it was released while in Texas, but I didn’t hear this for almost 2 years because I was stationed in Germany. When I heard it, I listened to it a billion times. The vocals on it tore me up. Beautiful song.

    Thank you ...thank you....thank you. As a Seattle guy and huge fan of all the local stuff.. I saw MOOKIE play in high school ( along with others in junior high ) ... I just picked up the guitar again last year and watch all your videos to re-learn how to play (haven't played since 9th grade) .. I appreciate what you do Matt

    Awesome video. Just a suggestion try doing a hammer on before the first one. Hammer on the e string first fret before you do hammer on 1st fret to third fret. Just how me and my dad play and thought you would like the suggestion.

    One of those tunes that's hard to stop playing once you start. It feels too good.
    For me, it always leads on to State of Love and Trust. That's like its uptempo sibling-song.

    Among many other songs, I played Footsteps at a coffee house in my college town in late 1995. My personal favorite performance of the night. And in my opinion, the original Pearl Jam demo version is the best version of all.

    You must be a very good teacher, very glad to watch and listen to your stuff! Pearl jam must have definetely been influenced by led zep. This evolution of music is amazing indeed, so if you please could, do "over the hills and far away"

    Hi Matt, I'm just starting guitar and this is the first song I'm learning (I like to set myself a challenge!). Can you tell me what you're doing during the first riff after playing the open G and D strings and before playing the 1st fret on the E string again? Every other version I've seen has a pretty loud muted strum, but my ear tells me you play it much closer to the original.
    You also seem to play something before repeating the riff and it seems to alternate.
    Well done on picking out the muted A string on the opening note!

    • @LetsPlayAll
      @LetsPlayAll  5 років тому +1

      Hey Dan! Awesome work on starting to learn the guitar, you shall have many years of joy and (some) frustration but stick with it! So what you're hearing there are incidental strums that i'm doing in between the 1st fret (E string) to 3rd fret (E string) hammer on and open D/G before i then play the 1st fret on the E again. So if you watch my right hand you'll see i'm moving it in a strumming fashion in between, this isn't particularly conscious but it's just a way of adding feel, which you'll see Stone and a load of other guitarists do. It partly helps to make the gaps sound a bit funkier, which is certainly Stone's style, but it's also practical - when playing in a band context it helps you stay in time when there's no drums accompanying! Anyways, what i'm doing is lightly strumming so you may hear the open D/G lightly played or the 3rd fret on the E string but i keep the A string muted with part of my 3rd or 1st finger (depending if i'm playing the 3rd or 1st fret)....hope that makes sense and good luck!

      @@LetsPlayAll thanks. I had a feeling that's what you were doing. You're so much better at it than any other online guitar "tutor", especially at that skill of soft strumming and "feel". I hear what you're saying about frustration, but I'm taking every small step as a success. It took me a couple of weeks practising before I could even make a "simple" G or C chord - it felt almost impossible. Thankfully I'm stubborn and I also stumbled upon a Mark Knopfler clip in which he says the guitar is hard because you have to tell your fingers to do things they don't want to do! I figure if he struggled, a mere mortal such as myself shouldn't shy away from being patient and trusting I'll learn the skill. Soft strums is now another one to work on. I'll get some guidance from my in-the-flesh tutor. Thanks again

      @@danz9093 Awesome and that's the perfect attitude, learning the guitar is amazing fun, and the learning never stops! Every day's a school day :) I'll look at doing some more beginner lessons too as it looks like lots of people are just starting out who follow this channel. Cheers Dan!

      An excellent question.....very tricky to answer but Pearl Jam’s early stuff tends to have more complex riffs whereas some of the latter arrangements are more unusual. That said, for a tribute or cover band I’d say Blood is right up there. It’s like a maths equation and one of those tracks that’s not too tricky to play along with the album but then when playing in a band context it’s tricky remembering all the intricacies. From a purely technical point of view I think Stone’s parts in Once require some dexterity (especially whilst jumping about on stage!) but for Mike I’d say Why Go or Go as they have the fastest solos. Why go probably edges it as no wah to hide behind and there’s a pretty quick fill on that too for both guitars 😀 Spin the black circle can be tough too as it’s so quick....hard to pick one!! Then you have Eddies parts, his difficult ones are the fingerpicking ones for me as he does that very well (and I don’t particularly!) so for him I’d say Just Breathe. Oh wait....Yellow Ledbetter pretty hard too to get that loose Hendrix feel. So a fair few then 😂 Often working them out is trickier than playing them tho!
      What’s your trickiest one?

    • @jasong546
      @jasong546 5 років тому +1

      I didn’t mean, don’t mean, to kind of hijack your question, but I agree about the examples. I can’t play with a slide, and if you heard me you immediately vomit from seasickness! So that tune off of Binaural, is it I Am Mine that has the slide part? With Betterman I struggled to use my thumb in proper timing. But I have not tried Once or Evenflow because it is just fast sliding into the lines and pulling off correctly etc. Thankful that we have your awesome channel doing the songs justice!

      @LetsPlayAll  5 років тому

      Jason Guion not at all mate the more opinions the better and thanks for your kind comment sir! Do you mean Red Mosquito? That has a tonne of slide in it (which I’m terrible at) that’s another to add to the list!
