Out in Washington and Oregon State we have a similar anchor known as the Columbia River anchor. They have been around for a long time and work great. Big boats heavy current no problem.
Love that anchor! I'm gonna have to build one. You could make that main tube water tight by drilling them holes a little bigger and welding pipe in it for the bolt and pin to go through.
@@FishinNStuff Was thinking the same thing he said. #1 just open up the bottom and leave a hole so it will not hold water. Dump paint inside and roll around to coat the inside to stop the rust. Let extra paint drain and dry. #2 find a section of heavy wall round tube. Drill out your sq tube to fit the round tube, Weld one side of the round tube in place and run a drill from the other to clean the hole out. Then weld the other side, run a drill to clean out. This will give you a welded in bushing that will not deform if you want to tighten down the bolts and keep it dry. But great job, Have one just like it that I got about 10 years back. One of the ones you pictured if I recall.
@@mr.gadgetfishing2134 that's a good idea too . I started to water proof the top section but then I started thinking it would be easy to replace it , seeing it come off from the bottom . @@FishinNStuff Not really talking about rusting out. More worried with the rust stains in the boat and on my gear.

Nice!! In no time at all I was joking with you that you were about to catch Catfish Dave with 16k subscribers. And here you are “TA DAY” AT almost 70k. Well done brother!!
Iv lost 2 anchors this year. one was my fault, I had it on a non locking D-ring. The 2ed would take several tries to grab bottom but that last time it did there wernt no pulling it back up. I got to get my welder out and try this design.
I would've use a solid piece for the bottom piece of the hinge. Bend it into a U around the anchor and drill the hole for the bolt through the uprights. To break that, you'd have to break the welds AND tear the metal. Much greater fatigue resistance that way
The only issue i see is the swing arm allows water to get in through the pin... Which will eventually lead to rust. Maybe the cheapest solution is to spray a bunch Rust-Oleum paint into the hole. Taping off the hole and shaking the hell out of the bar to ensure everywhere inside is covered. And then let it dry. Just a thought... Galvanized metal or thick aluminum swing arm are options too.
@Manmodor007 it'll rust but ive seen 8th inch steel lay out side in the rain for years and still holds its strength at the scrapyard . It's kind of like gluing a gun . It fits , its 15" wide and folded its about 19 or 20 inches maybe . But my anchor box is over 2 foot deep . If you watch the part where i throw the last anchor in it , you'll see how deep it is
Which cold saw is that? I’ve bought steel cutting blades for my miter saw and they hate cutting flat tube sides. Flat stock, round tube, etc it’s great, just not sq tube.
It was around 13 lbs , but I made my first one 14 lbs and it held great . My buddy had a 12 lb and a 18 lb river anchor and he says he can't tell any difference in em . So im starting to think with river anchors its more about the tines than the weight . I know my 14lb river anchor holds twice as good as my 15lb mushroom
@@FishinNStuff that's actually good to know! Thanks for the feedback! And to add..... This latest design should hold very well in river current with those reinforced horns. And since you have the anchor with the bottom attachment point it should allow for a zip tie strapped at the top of the shaft to able to break the zip tie and then pivot the boat around the anchor to get it out.

I don't sell em just do DIY videos
What happens if it gets stuck on the bottom?
You pull it hard and break the tie strap and it'll come loose from the bottom
Fishin N Stuff awesome. Thanks
Do you have any ideas for a fish descender? They are law here in Oregon now and I don't feel like paying a zillion dollars for a store bought onr..
What's it for ? Ol I looked it up . You guys must have some deep water there
@@FishinNStuff Yup-and when you bring up an illegal fish you need to descend it or it will blow up and die...
My Stepson lost my 20# mushroom anchor in the river..... Now I need another anchor.... Btw, how much did this anchor end up weighing?
