Be sure to use stainless steel brush to clean the base metal, as mild steel brush will contaminate and reduce the bonding of the aluminum.

Awesome video man! Good idea on that. Always great to watch your ideas. I made one similar but instead of braising it. I used my grinder to grind a flat spot in the edge of the aluminum angle and drilled a hole and put a bolt through it towards the bottom of this pipe and it acted as a rod stop as well. I used PVC for the pipe. Wish I could include a picture for better reference.

Now that there is the perfect rod holder really like it. And yes that's a small area to tap in the ground. Keep a 2x4 can use to help get in the ground by hitting the hammer int the 2x4 won't hurt the rod holder or blackness on it. But A++ on this thanks for sharing wish ide new this 20 or 30 years ago I could have helped so many people and made a few dollars maybe atlest get the money back for the material. Have a good week God bless

Those aluminum brazing rods can be used to fix up old propellers. There's a video somewhere here on youtube showing how to do it. Basically if the tips of the prop ears are gone or get spanned off when bending back it can be fixed and the prop kept as a spare for just in case or reused full time if you do a really good job with the repair.

I have some of these rods for filling holes on an aluminum boat..worked great until I got the thin boat too hot on one and ended up with a quarter sized hole instead of the pin hole it was. Epoxy to the rescue!😑😂. I’m gonna make some custom trolling rod holders for it now. You were thinking of building a boat awhile back..anything ever come of that? Appreciate all you do brother! it reminds me a lil like oxy/acet welding.. gotta get the only the metal hot not the stick.. I figure if I move it like a stick welding rod and make nice fluid pool shapes it should hold really well.. that's kinda how your one that you couldn't break looked to me.. the other one ya put it on kinda like sauder and it got a bit melty on ya.. either way it's a great option for those of us who don't have or don't want to use a welder.. truly enjoy your channel bub, keep em coming..

Cut the pipe in half long ways but leave 3" solid on the bottom. It still works the same but you dont have to pull the rod out the end of the pipe. Makes for a quicker hook set. You will need to weld something across the bottom to keep the rod from sliding down. I promise you will like it better
