This is actually a scene in a different zootopia movie where nic was actually the main character but audiences wonder more with judy so they rewrote the whole movie
For those wondering, this deleted scene originates from an earlier draft of Zootopia's script. While it might've succeeded in terms of being an emotional moment on its own, it was pointed out by the people working on the movie that none of the other scenes related to the concept of having predators wear collars worked like they were supposed to. Originally, the idea was to present the collars in a comedic manner, making this scene a jarring tone shift, so the writers attempted to mitigate the problem by making the collars a more serious plot device, but that resulted in the conflict being way too obvious and overshadowing the main storyline about Nick and Judy overcoming prejudice, so it was eventually decided on by everyone working on the film to scrap the collars altogether in favor of focusing more on animal stereotypes in order to get the message across in a more straightforward way. While a lot of people seem to think corporate cynicism and/or censorship played a role in the rewrite, that's not actually the case. The people who worked on the film have been very open about what actually happened. According to Byron Howard, the movie's main director, everyone knew the collar subplot wasn't working, and it apparently took some convincing by John Lasseter from Pixar to negotiate Disney into delaying the film's theatrical release date so that they could have more time to rewrite the script. Honestly, it's pretty impressive that they were able to turn things around so late into production, and the final version of the movie definitely benefitted from its more streamlined plot. I doubt most audiences would've found a story in which stereotypes are represented with fictional collars nearly as relatable as having the characters deal with those stereotypes directly, so I'd say the writers and directors made the right choice.

Honestly I wish we could have this version of Zootopia along side the one we got. I wish they would use this plot as a potential prequel or sequel story.
It's a whole different plot for the entire movie, it wasn't just a scene. It went unused because it's probably a heavy topic that children might be sensitive to, it was perfectly fine and I would love to see this unused plot become used
this would have added so much depth to the movie. i actually really like this idea just cause of how fucked up it is and how close to home it hits. A lot of people are told that emotion is unbecoming of them and they're dangerous for showing it.
I like this plot idea but it probably would end up being too dark for young kids. I get that they decided to make the movie more well...tame (pun not intended) to make it more family friendly, but I would prefer a deeper plot than just a dumb twist vilian.
They absolutely should have pulled a Ren and Stimpy, making 2 versions of the movie, the one we got, and this one where the collars are super oppressive instead of it being exclusively the metaphor.
This just shows that companies make animated films for small kids only although even animated films deserve much more deep and emotional plot than the one we got
I really wanted the original plot for the movie. I remember seeing the one finished scene of the original plot when I was like seven and thought nothing of it, and god I’m glad I didn’t
people saying this wouldn't be good if it was used in the actual movie fr forgetting that we legit got a movie about a furry who twerks infront of her furry mom
This is a much more serious plot than both the actual release and turning red's, the whole berry which makes you go crazy sounds childish in comparison to collars being used to oppress
Uh, no???? The concept was of the negativity of fearing people of different species (race for humans) simply for being born as they are. It's more along the lines of how some people fear and mistreat people with African or Arabic ancestry, NOT mental illness.
I can imagine Judy seeing this happens, I can bet the she learned and thought predators are mindless killers, and scary monsters, but its best not provoked them and stay away from them. But as soon she realized that they have feelings, that herbivores and carnivores are the same but different. When she witnessed the polar bear cub gets shocked over excitement, was pretty sad and that they didn't deserve this.
I like the plot we ended up with, but what i wished they couldve done was they should've had this be the main plot of Zootopia, then have the plot we ended up with be used for a sequel.
The main character was Nick in this alternate storyline, and the story was so depressing and sad that they actually gave the original plot for Toy Story some competition
Better context: zootopia wad originally supposed to be about Nick. He was meant to be the lead with Judy as his supportrd character, however the directors found Judy more compelling and made her the lead instead. I would of loved nicks version and then the one we got just being a sequal.
8/10 bets that Disney was also persuaded off the idea through e-collar businesses greasing the execs palms. Those businesses would have known that there would have been real life ramifications.
I understand for a kids show they qould use the other plot but i honestly really would wanna see this if it were to be a movie fir a slightly older audience, I really would of liked it
It's pretty heavy for children but I wish they could've used the original plot after all. It makes me wonder how the movie would be with this story, I feel like it would be so good and much better than the final project
This is probably how Zootopia would've gone if it was centered more around Nick and wasn't for kids. Since it ended up being more about Judy and has Nick being the co-mc plus it's supposed to not traumatize children, we got a completely different plot that is a lot less dark
Ugh, I’m so mad at Disney for changing the plot of the movie. The current plot we have now is amazing, but the original plot with the collars is SO. GOOD. There’s videos you can find about it, and there’s tons of storyboards from the original you can watch

This just shows that companies make animated films for small kids only although even animated films deserve much more deep and emotional plot than the one we got
I learned the show you the entire plot on this video :)

This would have been a much better plot then what we ended up getting
Mom my heart hurts
I really wanted the original plot for the movie. I remember seeing the one finished scene of the original plot when I was like seven and thought nothing of it, and god I’m glad I didn’t
Gosh! That's sad.
Reading the comments, i understand now why this wasnt used. But oh boy, how i wouldve loved to see this!
people saying this wouldn't be good if it was used in the actual movie fr forgetting that we legit got a movie about a furry who twerks infront of her furry mom
This is a much more serious plot than both the actual release and turning red's,
the whole berry which makes you go crazy sounds childish in comparison to collars being used to oppress
@@hggs4466yea, though it was weird when the main character desided to dive bomb the twin towers for some reason...
If I were a had one of those collars I would have been dead within a minute I can’t stop laughing
The problem with this plot is the real life example would be people with mental illness not getting treatment or taking their medication.
Nah the real life comparison is aba therapy or conversion therapy.
Well taking medication is part of the treatment
Uh, no???? The concept was of the negativity of fearing people of different species (race for humans) simply for being born as they are. It's more along the lines of how some people fear and mistreat people with African or Arabic ancestry, NOT mental illness.
This is such a better plot compared to what we actually got
This version of Zootopia looks like something PETA would make
I would’ve loved to see this as its own movie. I liked Zootopia, but this is so much more emotionally compelling.
“Do you remember this scene from zootopia.”
Shows an UNUSED plot
If They Kept This Plot, It Would've Been Way Darker
I want to see this version of the movie so badly
The shock collar plot where nick tries to make a place for preds only is also one of the better ideas of the Disney
Ohhhh so that’s why nick is so calm all the time well mostly because he was built around that whole premise
I was surprised that this actually did make me tear up just now. Completely made my mood do a 180.
I like how he doesn't even cry,he just look depressed after that, like a he just instally knew how f up the shock collar is
that would’ve been amazing plot, but i would’ve cried even harder than i alr do
I can imagine Judy seeing this happens, I can bet the she learned and thought predators are mindless killers, and scary monsters, but its best not provoked them and stay away from them. But as soon she realized that they have feelings, that herbivores and carnivores are the same but different. When she witnessed the polar bear cub gets shocked over excitement, was pretty sad and that they didn't deserve this.
It would have felt like a darker movie if Disney did this
I was gonna be like: WAS THAT THE BITE OF 87?!?! In the beginning 💀💀💀
This makes you cry? No, this is not meant to make you cry, it's meant to make you angry, specifically revolted or repulsed.
I like the plot we ended up with, but what i wished they couldve done was they should've had this be the main plot of Zootopia, then have the plot we ended up with be used for a sequel.
The main character was Nick in this alternate storyline, and the story was so depressing and sad that they actually gave the original plot for Toy Story some competition
in this version he's happy because he thinks all it means is he's a "big boy" now. its super sad.
This should have been a scene. It would made the movie pack more of an emotional punch to the gut.
I wish they kept this in because this how I feel everyday just because I have ADHD.
This is so sad… they don’t deserve it 😔
id love if they made a DIFFERENT movie with different characters, but a similar concept. Maybe a prequel, like its a historical part of their world
We always get the dumbed down generic plots instead of the good ones they made during story boarding
Shock collars are never a proper training method. Especially for emotions.
Better context: zootopia wad originally supposed to be about Nick. He was meant to be the lead with Judy as his supportrd character, however the directors found Judy more compelling and made her the lead instead.
I would of loved nicks version and then the one we got just being a sequal.
Truely a heartbreaking scene
8/10 bets that Disney was also persuaded off the idea through e-collar businesses greasing the execs palms. Those businesses would have known that there would have been real life ramifications.
at the moment the light turned green, my computer made the apple charging noise💀
I like the original zootopia but my God this would have been amazing
I understand for a kids show they qould use the other plot but i honestly really would wanna see this if it were to be a movie fir a slightly older audience, I really would of liked it
"do you remember this scene from Zootopia" "DELETED SCENE"
I’m kind of glad this wasn’t the plot because I feel like this would’ve been to deep for kids to understand also it’s sad
I wish they would have stuck with the original plot, it’s so much better
Ugh, I’m so mad at Disney for changing the plot of the movie. The current plot we have now is amazing, but the original plot with the collars is SO. GOOD. There’s videos you can find about it, and there’s tons of storyboards from the original you can watch
Also nick trys to make a theme park where predators can take off their collars
