Kafka Reveals The Trailblazer Backstory.. Or Did She? | Honkai Star Rail Lore

- Kafka is one of the most famous and prolific characters in honkai star rail and her lore has been shrouded in mystery. In 1.2 however kafka not only reveals her past but also reveals the trailblazers backstory in game we play with her during her companion quest. What is interesting though is that while we did learn many things from her, what if she was just lying and all the things we learnt was just another trick in kafka's sleeve.
In this video we'll talk about some of the things kafka covered and see what exactly it means for the trailblazers backstory and the lore in honkai star rail
Some part of this video comes from the actual lore while others may be speculation on my part as we currently do not know the full story. As such take it with a grain of salt as the point of this video is just a deeper dive into Honkai Star Rail lore.

There's something truly poetic about a human (Kafka) teaching an artificial lifeform (Trailblazer) about humanity when she herself cannot fathom one of humanity's greatest cultivator: fear.
To be honest, I think Kafka (and by extension Elio), wasn't lying about the Trailblazer's origins and any of the other truths she said for that matter. The Truth or Lie game works entirely on lying by omission in my opinion. Meaning even though she may have given us the truth from her perspective, it's as you said--Elio didn't tell her everything so it can't really be trusted. The questions the Trailblazer asked are things they were extremely interested in and the same goes for Kafka. Thus, there is only one absolute truth from this quest and it was hidden within her questions for the Trailblazer.
I quote, "For me, the truth or lack there of is not what matters in this game...". She asked two questions that serve practically the same purpose, which is to figure out the current Trailblazer's perception towards her. Yet, there is no way for her to find out the truth in some way unlike us. We can infer from previous interactions that she cares about what the Trailblazer thinks of her (eg. interrogation scene where she apologises for appearing in a sorry state). Kafka wanted to hear a very specific answer from the Trailblazer and the only way for her to manipulate it out of them at this stage of the story is through the Truth and Lie game. It doesn't matter to her if your friendliness towards her was a lie because she doesn't care about the reality of it. Perhaps this implies a more personal and vulnerable side of Kafka where she is still clinging to the past memory of the Trailblazer.
Funnily, Blade also indirectly answers the question of "What is the Trailblazer's relationship with Kafka?" Kafka gave an objectively distant answer to this question while Blade described it more personally despite only watching from the sidelines. It can be alluded to her wanting to keep her feelings to herself. Honestly, this quest fascinates me because it made Kafka feel much more human despite her depiction so far... a lot of reading between the lines required which is classic of Kafka. Even her extremely self-indulgent daily messages show her subconsciously unable to let go and her being uncontactable is a forced distance she puts between herself and the Trailblazer.
Thats an interesting take, I didnt consider the truth-lie game from the perspective of kafka herself and was kinda fixated with what were told about the trailblazer. Now im kinda curious whether kafka's interest in us is purely because she has something to gain rather than out of genuine care. Is it possible that she wants us to have a good impression of her because she wants us to continue interacting with her at least until she gets what she wants? I would imagine since the trailblazer is meant to fill that void she has if we suddenly cut all interactions and want nothing to do with her she likely wont get what she wants. Great, now I have to watch the entire thing again 😂
When you tryna beat kafka's quest but you can't beat yanqing

I brought a crappy team but damn it took me sometime to beat him, all those swords with different weaknesses. Why isnt my yanqing this strong, playable him is like one hit and oops my buffs are gone 😂

What I found most interesting is her 4th character story in the character screen. From the look of it, Elio and an unknown person seemed to be working together before Kafka joined in.
Yeah if im not mistaken even in the quest, it was mentioned that she joined after Elio and the other person had already started their plans. Its makes me wonder who that other person was, and maybe that person is the true leader
@@Maevix3142 It'd be crazy if that person was the Trailblazer working with Elio first and they had their memories messed with after the fcat to keep the plans going.
Ellio's divulging information on a need-to-know basis makes Kafka an unreliable narrator at best. Even if she intends a statement to be true, it may not be.
Exactly, this is assuming she tells the truth in the first place and even if she does it could jsut be something that elio has told her and what she believe to be a truth and the entire thing is just another way to put us on the path they want even if kafka isnt aware
When I played Kafka's game, I did choose to confirm the "Who am I" statement was true. From everything I've seen about Kafka, she seems to care for trailblazer, given their past and their interactions. She seems to play by the rules of her own game honestly, and although you do fight the Stellaron Hunters in various ways and times, at no point do they seem outright hostile to the trailblazer. Personally given all we've seen, at worst shes an unreliable narrator, and at best I believe she did (at least attempt) to give an honest answer (assuming you picked one of the truth voice lines).
We know Kafka is untrustworthy and manipulative, but I think trailblazer is a soft spot, her weakness so to say. She *wants* trailblazer to succeed, to defeat Nannook, be that out of selfish desires of fixing herself, or to see her companion succeed.

Based upon what was presented, Kafka was abiding by the rules of the game. She even gives a different, and negative/disappointed response if the player tells either 2 truths or 2 lies.
Also for a lie: part of the statement can be true. There only needs to be an element of untruth for the statement in its entirety to be a lie.

All these lore makes me think that Kafka will die sacrificing herself for the MC, it shows that she cares about the MC alot & even Blade prove that.
Especially since when you choose the dialogue options she has complete different reactions. When you choose - you hate her (truth) - she looks more visibly sad then when you lie by choosing the - you hate her (lie) - dialogue option where she'll instead smile
As I understand it, their relationship is what will lead to kafka getting what she wants which is the sense of fear she lacks. Ive seen people speculate that this happens when the trailblazer might be on the verge of death and kafka fears for them. This could be what would lead her to make the self sacrifice play but I kinda wish that didnt happen, kinda dont want her to die 😂
Nah, the narrative beats just aren't there. Kafka is not bad enough for a redemption, not close enough to the Trailblazer (post-Stellaron) for a tearjerker, and too important for shock value.

I think the trailblazer is an reincarnation of akivili the trailblaze
In the simulated universe upon meeting Fuli the Remembrance, the Trailblazer vaguely recognized her as Kafka. Kafka has spirit whisper which affects memories too btw. And then the mother thingy with the truth or lie game.
It leads me to think that Kafka is Fuli and the trailblazer is her son/daughter with Akivili 👀

i think kafka is telling the truth however i think the fact that kafka has admitted that elio doesn't tell her everything because as we have seen there are multiple ways to forcefully extract information from people
so that means elio withholds information from kafka and she knows and doesnt care so who knows what elios real goals are and how much he doesnt tell her and the other hunters

2 things really breaks my heart
1. MC being a random clone and cool backstory ,,, which is i blv true cause hoyo dont do complicated stuff they prefer simple but impactful story

Well kafka isnt entirely trustworthy and even if she is telling the truth elio tells her only bits and pieces, so this might all be just partial truths that kafka thinks is the whole story. Basically what im trying to say, kafka being our mom still possible lol 😂

what if the trailblazer and kafka where lovers before, and he sacrificed himself too be getting a memory wipe so he can defeat nannok in the end. that would be more of an hoyo story than anything. kafka cares so much about him because she is in love with him.
when you took the female trailblazer the backstory is that she was kafkas sister.
and keep in mind with what blade sayed that he/she was allways on kafkas side before.
this would make more sence, a sad backstory is what hoyo can do best overall, and this would fit in there backstorys of characters in the hoyoverse games so far.
the kafka /mom stuff just comes from fans not from hoyo themselfs.
