I was there for this. Incredible moment. Metallica played Dublin the year before and didn't play Whiskey in the Jar, got booed off the stage for it. Big respect for the Irish fans to play it when they came back.
This song was written in 1650...we should be happy that such an old, rare fun song has been carried through the generations, and the bands put their own stamp on it, rather than just copying it. Let's hope no matter what take a current generation does with it the song will continue.......
I used to play music.....when that happened to us we tried to swap the line....like first I produced my rapier I then produced pistol....but sometimes you just screw the pooch. Lucky he didn't completely forget the words with that crowd....
I like how James paid homage to both Phil & Cliff . Cliff Burton was a huge Thin Lizzy fan just like a lot of us rockers from castro valley california.
I will never forget it. I was there the previous year and the crowd shouted for Whiskey In The Jar and he said they didn't have it prepared but promised he will be back to play it. I remember hearing it and thinking wow he held on to his promise.
ME AND MY WIFE WHERE THERE IT WAS HER FIRST TIME THERE AND JUST FOUND OUT MY DAUGHTER AT PASSED AT UNIVERSITY WHAT PISSUP AND FANTASTIC CONCERT AND THE PEOPLE IN DUBLIN WERE BRILLIANT 👏
Metallica is the most incredible band to me, and i've created a connection with this song, to me it connotes happiness and independence and the freedom of travel and creating memories i want to. When i listen to this song, it helps me know in myself that grades at college and succeeding with money and education don't determine anyones passion; for music, for travel, meeting new people and generally being a rock star ;) I hope that everyone has a song like that. \m/
My first ever time seeing Metallica. Travelled from just outside Belfast to be there. Safe to say it wasn’t my last. Been every time they’ve been to Dublin after, Marlay Park in 2008 and 2009. But the 2006 RDS show will always be my favourite. This show was dubbed as Download Festival Dublin, was ran by Download. Pretty awesome day with Alice in Chains and Avenged Sevenfold providing support on the main stage. Then Alice in Chains played again on the second stage with Stone Sour and Bloodsimple.
I was there. Had no idea this was on youtube and that it has been for thirteen fecking years! They played the entire Master Of Puppets album from start to finish. A surprise, to be sure. But a welcome one. It's my favourite album by far. And then, after that set and an encore they fininshed us off with this. Will never forget how the ground started shaking when it came on. Magical. Also I was on pills, MDMA, speed and alcohol. It's a wonder I even remember this. But I do. It's my favourite concert memory by far! FOR THE CRAIC!
Man, I wish I was. This Dublin crowd is the best I've seen for this song. They are bouncing! Watch Enter Sandman Moscow Live 1991 for the 1 million plus crowd for Metallica. That is one whacked hyped crowd. I go nuts watching the copters flying over the crowd. That crowd is wild. Richie and the whole band has that long hair going round, getting fired up by the million plus fans.
Thats like a fever suppository to Dublin..... Respect, that's one of my all time favourite songs, not only from Metallica..... sounds like soooo much fun
Was there, was epic, unforgettable and glad there's a video! Like you said, we pestered them so much that every time since that gig they play it early in the set to prevent 2 hours of "Whiskey Whiskey Whiskey" being shouted at them haha
Watched this video so many times over the years and don't know if I've ever commented here before but I was at this!!! The crowd kept chanting for "whiskey" all night. It was un-fucking-real.
...kind of befitting that Metallica headline Slane Castle in 2019. Thin Lizzy were the first to top the bill there in 1981. Think this track will be played?

Whiskey in the jar right in Ireland, what else could u ask for
Cristobal Mac-Auliffe n
A bigger jar is absolutely all l can think of, Lads.
In UA-cam there exists so many versions of "whiskey in the jar" but in my opinion this version is the best of all.

i donit understand
SJoriis it's dedicated to cliff Burton
Danny Walsh are you sure? Could be Phill Lynott perhaps? as its a Thin Lizzy cover and this performance is in their home country of Ireland
