James' voice between '88 and '92 is something beyond imagination
I would say from 86-91
for the black album, he took vocal lessons
@@zamet666 Ye but the Black Album was very different from what they previously did, they got less trash and James sung differently
@@rullofrullo3832 yeah, that's why they got to the mainstream... less thrash :(
At least it was still metal, cant quite say that for load and reload except fuel
You can tell Kirk is really into it.. He never headbangs.... Probably their greatest show ever...
Hell yeah he was into it!
It's the best💯, there's no one better
Seattle was better though... But this one is perfection too 🤘
Second that
The BEST performance of this song ever!
agreed 👍
Agree...💪💪👍👍👍
100% agree
This and Seattle 89
@@jakelamont6205
yeh, vocals r better at Seattle 89. but the instrumentals here r chunky as fuck
2:41 COME ONNNNNN
Gives me chills bro
YUP!!!
Papa Plays, 5:07
GOD!!!!!
The energy in this concert is in overdrive.
Yes .Это тогда было для нас космические гастроли,как с другой планеты,жалею что не попал на это шоу,служил в армии.
It's with the amply in 11
Fuck communism
How many WATTS RMS was ?????
James was drinking vodka shooting AK47's between shows
Look it up bro...
5:06 that's fucking brutal
OP
the most metal moment of the decade
Damm f'n right it is
They should've made the album version like that
4:06 How no one is talking about this shot when James absolutely smashes the drum kit of Lars. Those guys were giving 110% im sure of that
Wow!!
I can feel the absolute fucking energy just watching this, I’m sure they felt like absolute fucking kings up there
Awesome catch!
The solo the headbanging! The heavy audio!! I wanna smash something from this!!
A generation of dissected youth, dystopian environment, military clashes, the pure rage of the band and crowd... You can't get more metal

People can say any shit about Lars, but in this performance he was flawless. Beast mode on.
I miss this Lars tbh
100% facts
Right on brother!! Bonzo is tappin his foot to Lars in the great beyond. Compositions. Metallica is as good as the renaissance classical music as far as the test of time.
Also The Het always goes back to the risers to fill up on some of that mojo. Its alchemical.
dynamic pelts those boys now men stand a test of time on our earth
Jason’s performance during this song is a thing of legend!!
This is simply how a metal band should be, legendary, wish I was there 😊
This might be the greatest single song performance in metal history. The overloaded audio, Rock God vibe, perfect musical execution, the dystopian environment in the crowd with the military-civilian clashes, the people living under a regime that truly was "harvesters of sorrow". Right band, right song, right place, right time.
> people living under a regime that truly was "harvesters of sorrow". >
By your logic, the real harvesters of sorrow are the perpetrators of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. There is more blood in/on the hands of USA and UK than any other country, brother.
I agree with you about the music part of the comment.
@@user2j3ycg4df Russia would never cause a bloody war in Afghanistan! Oh, wait...

@@randomnessrules4971 and know, my brainwashed friend, learn a thing or two about Soviet affairs in Afghanistan and see what Soviets left to Afghani people in 89, when the war was over: hospitals, schools, bridges, dams, factories. But they won't tell you that on TV and your good-for-nothing history books. And what did yankees give to Afghani? Go ahead. Freedom and democracy, I guess. Well, they are truly law and order free now. Along with Lybia, Iraq, Syria and dozens of other countries you poked your filthy noses into

They look serious as we don't need to smile all the time as they do in the west lol.
The overloaded audio is pure bliss.
It's epic for this reason
The audio makes it sound more awesome imo.
@@vapordreams983 As I said...pure bliss
I agree! Im normally a sound connosieur but right here its perfect.. military choppers flying over the crowd and people beaten with batons, while hetfield in his prime bellows the harvester of sorrow. Everything is on absolute overload mode. Fucking goosebumps 😄😄
🙉👅🤘☠
This video fucked up my head phones... Totally worth it
And back in this time, it blew out a set of $2500USD Klipsch floor monsters connected to a pair of 250w amps. Back then, 250w going through those speakers not only immediately redecorated your house, but rumbled the floors of neighbours up to 4 doors down!
yeah
Metallica played their hearts out for Moscow. This is one the best performances I've ever seen.
The magic of the enormous crowd helped
when you’ve got a million people thrashing around and chanting that definitely helps
STILL THE BEST LIVE VERSION OF THIS SONG!!!!
Yeah, sloooow, deep and hard
Oh yeah
Это точно! Ciao, Thank's!!!
💯💯💯
This was the first real metal rock concert in Russia around the collapse of Soviet Union. The Russian military didn’t know what to make of the crowd and started beating some of them mistaken them to be unruly.
Actually the first one was Moscow Peace Festival in 89. There were Motley Crue, Ozzy, Bon Jovi, Cinderella, Scorpions, Skid Row, etc.
@@DonPetrushka that’s correct! I remember watching that on MTV I believe. I couldn’t believe Bon Jovi was headlining at the time if I recall.
@@christhembones8244 Was that the one where everyone was actually supporting Bon Jovi, but thought they were all headliners?
@@tylercielen2216 I know Bon Jovi played last which I thought was laughable. Seemed like most of the big acts had equal time.
@@DonPetrushka The moment you have Bon Jovi in the line-up it stops being a metal concert, so he is technically correct.
My ears have never heard anything this good before
Jason’s backing vocals are 🔥
5:07
His headbanging man!
That "Come on!!!" at 2:41. That's when James just let it all fucking out!! That shit still gives me chills. And I've seen this video probably 1000 times. Absofuckinglutely Awesome!!
after when he walks up to lars. "BEAT THEM DRUMS!!" lol
Fuck yeah
Hell yeah ...James must have felt like a GOD !!!

its just too fucking heavy
The riff coming back in at 2:40 is the heaviest thing I've ever heard in my life.

The distortion in this performance is freakin crushing! IMO their best live performance of this song EVER.
This was BRUTAL.

I reckon its louder with headphones!!!, plus neighbors and all that lol
@@mattyjay8883 No freacking way how can you handle that?
I try to watch this once a day, The heaviness gives me life
1:49 All day...
Love the way the volume on this video is way more loud than any other video on UA-cam 🤘
The dystopian environment at the time of this concert is exactly the thing that makes this concert very metal. This took place during the dissolution of the Soviet Union and you have military personnel clashing with civilians that will rock hard no matter who the fuck opposes them and Metallica realizes that and as a result , gives them the energy they desperately deserve which creates one of the greatest performances ever imaginable…. wtf was this concert? Every waking second of it was a blast of chills for me. James voice mimicked the studio version, Jason’s headbanging is literally the soul of Metallica, Lars KILLED the drums harder than he ever has and even Kirk was headbanging (something he never does). What a show man.
When they finally drop the main riff... That's fuckin sick
Dear god. This is amazing.

The anthem for the fall of the USSR. I remember seeing this for the first time. I couldn't believe it was real. It was like they were playing on some other post-apocalyptic pirate planet. Turns out that was just the collapsing USSR.
Don't get me wrong, I love Metallica. Saw them last year and it was great, but.....the anger and aggression, the pure brutality from this era is gone. Having seen them then, and seeing them now, there is a difference. They aren't as loud either. I remember not being able to hear much after the concert in 1991, and thinking the volume had been much less in 2020. We are all getting older I suppose, and I will see them again and again for sure, but I miss this era.
They can still reach down and get it on occassion but 90s were prime years for sure... look at any other athlete at 25-30 and then at 55-60.... wicked that they can still play as hard as they do...
Even the mighty Metallica isn’t immune to the affects of time
I'm not a musician but after the Black Album tours, they changed their live sound from James's style of singing (James's voice was busted so he needed to start singing as opposed to screaming), their guitar tuning (again because James's voice was busted so they needed to change the tuning to match the vocals) to Lars's drumkit (his shoulder has issues).
It's not just the age issue but that's a big part of it. Lars has been asked how long they will go for and he notes that an 80 year old Bob Dylan keeps going but Bob Dylan doesn't play Metallica songs.
I saw Metallica for the first time in 2003, and even then I had this feeling of "the best time to see them has already long passed, they'll never again sound the way they did in the 80s-early 90s." I still went and enjoyed them nonetheless, and it's still pretty remarkable how great of a show they can put on despite their age.
@@ayelmao1224 .... well said.
incredible amount of people there. I think it added energy to the performers
1.6 million my friend
@@SkoobySnack420probably more because on the last day thousands of people kept coming in. they couldn’t stop them. tickets were free as well! I still say it at least 2 million they only lost count after 1.6 million lol
Jason’s head banging is so freaking awesome !
PEAK Metallica
this was the most badass video I've ever seen!
There is no better performance of Harvey. The purity of the aggression in this rendition is unrivaled, in a song that's already thunderously aggressive. When the remastered Black Album came out and the Moscow '91 concert was part of the bonus tracks, I immediately replaced Harvey and Creeping Death in my playlists with the renditions from this concert because they're so good. Pure, unbridled rage and musical power.
This is awesome it’s basically the music video bc it fits so perfect with the Soviet guards
When they were in their prime, would give anything to be there for that concert.
You can still see them. Believe it or not, they still got it! Check out their shows!
@@-themindslayer- no, not even close...
I was only 1yr old when tbis concert happened.
Metallica was my favorite right from my mother and will be forever!
I would give almost anything to go to that concert 🤘
I saw them 4x back in the day, on the Master Of Puppets tour and after the Black album. They were raw and primal, it was greatness and so much heavy energy. I have legit mild hearing loss and I still go see live bands. I regret nothing 😎🤘
This is just primal rage of the first order. So authentic, so heavy. A great live version of this song.
Wow their best show
Seattle 89 was there most talented performance, Moscow 91 was their greatest concert ever tho.
also san diego 92 is amazing
This kind of performance, band, setting, etc. only happens once in a generation. Everything was just so perfect during the black album tour. The best part of this one for me is at 3:53 when he growls and then just goes nuts.
love hear the bass!!!!
Harvester of Sorrow and One are my two fav tracks from And Justice For All. This live performance is killer!

Right before “and justice for all” was released, they played this song live during a show in Pittsburgh. It was the last song they played and told us to look for it on their new up coming album. The crowd loved it but we had no idea the scope of the song at the time.
A time when East and West were able to cooperate with each other in all areas of life. Especially in cultural development. Metallica is truly a true musical treasure. Respect from Russia. Music unites all ordinary people.
Het screaming COME ON! at the end of the first chorus is just epic
I love the part where the pause at the end before they start up again. James laughs, I know he was thinking “ oh we aren’t even done with this MF yet” 😁while 1.6 million fans go wild cheering for them. It’s the best. I absolutely love this video!
