This was the last concert that my kid sister went to, last really good time she had really. Two weeks after she got really sick and died of cancer in Oct. She really had a great night despite being in pain. The first aid crew were great to her, letting her come in periodically to rest. RIP Brenda
Sorry for the loss of your sister. GOD Bless
Rest In Peace to your sister😔

This song was played at my father's funeral. When I hear this song, I always remember the good times I had with him.😢❤❤❤
That kicks so much ass.
Every Time when i listen to Metallica, i have a feeling Like love in my hard, i LOVE the Music from Metallica🤟
a band that deserved a movie.
They already had multiple
Dude they have SKOM, And Through The Never. And Quebec Magnetic.
There have been a couple actually.
I think he refers to a movie like motley crue's the dirt
Yes but do not let Lars nowhere near script or directors chair.
James looks like that one mechanic in the shop that comes over when the young guys screw something up, and shows them how to fix it properly.
justin biber, beyonce, one direction etc r those stupid people who screw up the music
Funnily enough, James works with cars and probably other things, so he could be a mechanic if he ever so wanted
That was specific.
You mean rick dale?
What do mean... he IS that guy.
The band honoured the Irish with this particular song and the performance in the place it was performed.
Quite special.
Hair gets gray..the songs remain the same..long live the great Metallica♥️♥️♥️
This is without a doubt one of their best Whiskey performances ever, James' solo was beautiful

Best concert I was ever at. I was in the hospitality tent and saw all the memorabilia from down through the years. Its a day I will never forget.
same as me when see them in 87 in my country at Master of Puppets tour
I was 16 years old at this gig, and even when I'm in the twilight years of my life (a long time off I hope), it'll be one of my best memories. Always felt a comeraderie amongst other people who were there, they know what we witnessed :)
they all look so happy in this performance it warms my heart.
James sounds incredible. I shed a tear to this and I'm not even Irish.
@Mike k......James is an absolute prick and a half!!!!....His ego is massive!

In 1974 age 19 I walked across a wet car park. Thin Lizzy we’re playing at Northwhich Memorial Hall. It was my first ever concert. I remember it because I tried to show my mates how high I could karate kick; sadly first my first leg went up, closely followed by my other leg. Landing on my elbows produced two bleeding elbows my favourite shirt now torn. Great music made up for my car park disaster. Now I listen to Metallica
If you are still listening this song 2022,you are a Legend !!
I love the "oldies"
Holy shit James sings good!
He gets better in vocal, he now sounds more like 80s and 90s, in some point he lose hes voice litllebit in 2000s, but now he is back. Legend!!!
He has learned how to project better in my opinion opposed to the throaty hybrid screams.
Still going strong!
His mic is probably a little higher so he doesnt need to scream all night long all day, that shit is harsh to a grown man's throat
Not as good as Dave Mustaine.
LOLOLOL
@@hinjurock troll
That fucking voice man...its awesome that still have the 90's roaring. One of the best Metallica's live performances of this tune!
rj zander yes maybe true, but 96-2000 was the most flexible voice. It could roar and sing most melodic
@rj zander Ride the lightning vocals is way more aggressive/melodic than Kill em all, more experience to it.
@rj zander its all subjective.
A descendant of Cork County, Ireland. I salute you for performing a great Ireland song and drinking song! Long live the Ireland isles and the Irish!!

I'm here. 6 April 2024
And forever 🤟
The crowd was louder than James at some points. Good crowd!!
Dude it was nearly deafening be there at points but my god was it worth it!
As an American, some large event in Ireland; sports, concert, whatever, has been on my bucket list ever since I saw like 5,000 Irish sing all night loud as fuck at the first UFC in Ireland. They really seem to know how to have fun over there.
I was there, a good bunch of the crowd sucked, but I still had a great time.
The best part was when everyone was singing chop suey
Being a traditional Irish folk tune, they were not going to let the side down by not belting it out hard.
The audience here is amazing! Great version of the song.
I'm still having trouble speaking and I was there 3 days ago
Same just incredible the night.
Damn, I always remember that Red Hot Chilli Peppers concert when I read "Slane Castle" lol. That show was legendary too
of course the audience was amazing. An Irish audience usually is. :)
@@RobHarris1089USUALLY???..
always😂 be it fighting, drinking or in a civility.. Always 😂
Easily the best concert I’ve ever been to. The energy these guys have for their age is unbelievable.
There are so many layers to why this is such an amazing version of this song.
1. The song itself is an old old traditional Irish song dating way back to (probably) around the 1650s.
2. Metallica's version is of course based on Thin Lizzy's own version, themselves a legendary Irish rock band (hence James' "We love you, Phil" shoutout to the late Phil Lynott, lead singer, bassist, and founder of Thin Lizzy)
3. Kirk is playing a Les Paul known colloquially as "Greenie," originally owned by the late Peter Green (who founded Fleetwood Mac), and later owned by the late Gary Moore, a brilliant Irish guitarist who was briefly in Thin Lizzy.
4. When there are that many nods to Irish music history, and you're playing the song in front of freakin' Slane Castle, that crowd is gonna soak it all up and sing along as loud as they can.
🤘🏻🤘🏻
Awesome information on this song and we also know that Metallica members James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett have Irish ethnicitity
Great summary 👍
Thanks Tim great information
Gracias por la info! 🇮🇪🇦🇷
Gary Moore, former owner of "Greenie" was also in Thin Lizzy, which brought this song into Rock and Roll.

And Kirk playing it on "Greeny".
Usually cover versions aren't as good but if anything this version is the best

I love Thin Lizzy's version, but this one wins my heart too! I'm Mexican!
Oh, yeah. It's one on of my favorite rock songs. Metallica is forever!!! Many thanks to Thin Lizzy
The energy this band puts out will forever be unmatched
Absolutely, no doubt.
How James singing and playing solo at the same time is spectacular. True pro.
Awesome 👍
as a guitar player, I think it's more amazing that he can play songs like atlas rise, blackened or through the never and sing (they usually play the songs sped up live). he's a rhythm guitar god
@@Targon999 Dude Sad But True, how the hell....
Targon999 blackened aint hard to sing and play, the singing is done during the palm muted sections so its easy live.
Nice touch by Metallica, 3 guitars are green, white and gold 👏🤘

@Joseph Seaton Agreed. I was there for the 2006 one. As great as it was seeing the entire Master album done start to finish, they still didn't perform as well as they have been lately, especially James' vocals. Even the 2009 Ireland show I was also at, and they played better than in 06 and 04. 06 setlist was incredible though.
That pretty much sums up my feelings too man, simply amazing show. I'm still buzzing

"Whiskey in the Jar" at Slane Whiskey Distillery - no better place!
well, whiskey gogo would be better, but it's to small for them :D
MrPeperonik That was like 1982 lmao
MrPeperonik no it’s not lol. Phil Lynott (who wrote the song) is from Ireland so I would say Slane Whiskey distillery is a better place than Whisky a go go.
Michael Lavelle Phil never wrote it it’s an old folk song

A stunning guitar for sure.
Everything sounds better with a ric
Perfect for this tune. The Irish flag colors. Robs Emerald Ric. James' white 🎸 guitar and Kirk's gold Les Paul. That he bought for 2 million that belonged to two rock legends.
They need to have this as the national anthem🤘
One of the best live performance I have ever seen. What a quality band !
One of the best bands ever omg Metallica just love it. Guns n roses, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple etc.
Metallica ensures this timeless song remains in eternity.
What you really love about James is that his voice seem not to change even he aged .. AMAZING
its much better than it was when he was younger..it sounds more powerful, emotional and interesting
He was on Joe rogans podcast like 2019 I believe it was incredible interview but I believe he said he was seeing a vocal coach later in his career but yea his voice is tremendous and sounds better I saw him in 2003 in San Jose CA and was incredible concert
His voice has changed a lot over the years. Not only on studio albums but in concerts. Listen to different concerts over the years and listen to the albums over the years. When I first saw them live his voice sounded way different from when I last saw them live - and this gig too.
I don't have the best hearing but I can definitely hear it. So can others. His voice absolutely has changed very much over the years.
@@nberry324i thought it was 2016
I totally agree
This is a heartfelt tribute and a magnificent synthesis of Irish and American culture. Thanks lads.
Despite being different than their usual music, this is one of my favorite songs by them. Such a good sing along song
Edit: I guess I need to say this is a cover song for some people to be happy. I already know that. They recorded a cover, put it on an album with their own style/twist, and perform it live so saying “by them” when they’re playing it live is no big deal
It's not a song by them. It's a cover
@@dudee499Oh my god, REALLY? i just thought they traveled back in time and wrote it before thin lizzy did! the more you know.
That's because it is a Thin Lizzy song and a traditional Irish song. Believe it or not the lead singer of Thin Lizzy Phil Lynott was the chief writer for the band who wrote some of the best songs I ever heard and being a major fan and collector of knowledge of the band, I was shocked that Phil Lynott and being a very proud Irishman wasn't a big fan of the song, which really opened the world to Thin Lizzy had to be convinced to release it as a single which he didn't even want to put the song on the album it was on he just wanted to release it as a single because the record company was advising them to do it. It got them on the show Top of the pops and was their first hit for the world's most underrated band in my opinion. Love Metallica's version more than TLs. Lizzys was more traditional and folksy not as pounding and upbeat as Metallica's. I think it's Metallicas best song and definitely a crowd pleaser to me. I listen to their version atleast once a month. And being a major Lizzy fan more than Metallica U rarely listen to theirs lol. Great cover in my opinion and actually to me have kinda made it their own because of their upbeat anthemic version
@@mikemonchuk7087 yea I knew it was a cover. Didn’t know all that other stuff so that was cool

Whats even more awesome about this performance is that they didn't just play it. They dedicated it to the singer of Thin Lizzy
Fantastic job. All members looked great and on top of their game. Great song great tribute to Ireland, Thin Lizzy and Phil... Rip brother
Thin Lizzy of course being inspired by the Dubliners who played it before them. The Dubliners in turn also inspired by this old traditional Irish folk tune.
And even though he wasn't on the recording of the original, he played it many times.
