This song is from an album called "Nisemono" with the album and subsequent music focusing on young artists being overworked to the point of missing out on their youth. The album's storyline (shown through the music videos on this channel) can basically be rundown to 3 major points. 1, An up and coming japanese music artist Kimiko Tageuchi (the person singing on this video) reaches a breaking point right before singing at a live performance and ends up quitting (she was gonna sing this song here). 2, Her manager finds a replacement for her as quickly as she can before the performance starts, choosing to make the ghostwriter of the song perform (Ginger Root, the actual music artist this channel is run by) instead of her, the performance goes really well and he ends up gaining his own fame and notoriety. And 3, Ginger Root slowly realizing he too doesnt want to deal with the stress of the entertainment industry and understanding why Kimiko left in the first place. The reason people are acting so surprised in this comment section is because this song is the one she quit before singing. It should also be noted, this is my understanding of it and I might be incorrect in these statements as this info was gathered by my personal perception of the plot. With Kimiko missing her agent needed someone to perform the hit song Loneliness from her new project and she quickly pointed at ginger root. He became an instant sensation, making soda commercials and such. The stress although got to him too and he decided to run away as well. Kimiko seeing all the publicity ginger root got instead of her got jealous (?) and decided to return. I think that's pretty much it, if I remember correctly, go check out the other music videos, they're really well produced.

I've watched this about 4 times now and the whole Nisemono timeline stands alone. I look back at the whole period and I honestly hadn't been this excited for a universe since Marvel, or any of the assorted childhood anime (Naruto, Death Note, etc) that I followed regularly. It's that good attention to detail, careful pacing, and character building that is at the core of all these great universii and I love everyone's arc as they deal with fame and being thrust into action, making choices and learning from them. Thanks Cameron, you've given us a lot of great memories this year. All of this + your Hong Kong show (852 represent!) are core memories for this jaded millennial.
