- We got our hot little hands on one of the 2023 KTM 300 SX two-strokes at Cahuilla Creek last week and man, all we can say is wow! While all of the Japanese manufacturers have all but abandoned pre-mixers, KTM has continued to push the two-stroke envelope and the fuel-injected, electric-start 300 SX is a dream to ride. Rene Garcia puts the new machine through its paces in this O'Neal First Impression feature for SML.
I got my 300 SX about three weeks ago. Bad weather (in Texas) has kept it in the garage. I was able to get it out to the track this past weekend and I was more than impressed. There is NO 2T lag. The EFI gives power as soon as the throttle is cracked. There is no build up or "hit" like a typical 2T, the power comes on smoothly, much like a 4T. It's about 10-15 pounds lighter than a 4T so it is much easier to throw around, so to speak. Power.....hell yeah it's got it, 57 HP worth (so KTM says). The front end will come up with a snap of the throttle if you want it to. I didn't even think about vibration, but there was none to speak of. IMO, the simplicity of this bike makes it a blast to ride. My Kawasaki 250F will be for sale now since I won't really ride it anymore. I'm am over the moon about mine!!
So cool man what do yo do for a living ? I hope to one day get to enjoy a bike for a hobby but at the moment I’m a humble student saving Pennies lol
Thanks for the update. I"m eyeing a 300SX and if it's still available after Xmas, it's coming home with me.
How’s it holding up 5 months later?
@@wee535 I have had no problems so far. I know there are some guys having issues with plugs, updates and other issues but I suspect that they are the vocal few. I'm guessing there thousands of other quiet owners with no problems...like me. Everything in my OP remains the same.
We need Orange frame, Orange rear fender and revised rad shrouds. (just my two cents)
I just picked mine up Saturday as a spur of the moment decision lol. Went to buy my son a bike for Christmas and left with 2. I won’t get to ride it until spring time (thanks Ohio) but i can’t wait.
This is the first new bike I'm excited for! I rode the 2023 ktm 300xc and the chassis was very impressive. Power pulled for as far as your hand could twist it
Finally you guys have one Highlandcycles and other media’s covered this bike.
This bike is badass the TBI is great and efficient. Just Hoping it can be raced in sanctioned Races
I would definitely not describe the 300sx suspension as plush. I'm 8 hours in on mine and it's got one of the harshest shocks I've ever riden. Mostly it's really hard on small quick bumps on the straights or out of turns. Almost painful really. Definitely will need to be revalved.
How is the front fork? I have a 19 300xcw for woods. Thinking about getting the sx for the track
Some of what you are feeling is from added control of the new electric power valve.
Well done Rene. Good review on the new 300. Keep up the good work!
I have 23 300sx and that bike rips. I also had a 22 250 xc-w was a great bike to buy put to shame by new TBI system. The TBI has way more snap it's great can't wait for next year.
If they can get an 85 with fuel injection tuned perfect there’s going to be a lot of KTMs being sold
I would still wait a couple years for the next gen version.
Love those, brake taps Rene!...👍
be nice to have a 350 or 400 2stroke in it.
Id love to try one, my last two stroke was a 05 Yamaha YZ250, with a flywheel weight to smooth out the hit a little. I liked it, but liked my Honda CRF450 better.
Game Changer.
I’m pro technology and advances in engineering, but does a two stroke with a more 4 stroke power delivery really make sense? 🤔
I think so. One of the main disadvantages of a 2 stroke was the hit of the powerband, while exciting, would wear you out more quickly and compromise traction in slippery conditions compared to a 4 stroke.
smoother power makes better traction, but the main gain of the EFI is an increase in power at lower RPM's. these bikes will have more torque than both carb and TBi.
@@yukonjon5964 thanks for the reply, I guess there are lots of 2 stroke enthusiasts out there and a modern 2 stroke is only a good thing. This bike certainly seems to have created a lot of hype!
@@markwgundert4251 thanks for the reply. Makes total sense. Hopefully the 2 strokes are continually developed to improve the technology even further!
Looks & Seems Awesome !! Looking Good Kiddo,, ON THE GAS ,,,, BARKING IT !!! 👍🏻👌🏻✊🏻🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Luv 2 try a fuel injected 2smoker!!!
I wonder if this 300SX will out sell the 350SXF now?
Sounds like it cuts out when on and off the throttle?
All I want manufacturers do is make the bikes less expensive and not make them in China. I'm fine with going back to carbs and kickstarters too. Also, we don't need revamps every year, Yamaha has the best two stroke model: just make the same bike for a decade. It's fine and parts are easier to get.
How was the vibration on it? I heard the counter balance on the KTMs help a bunch for vibration.
There's practically none, modern 4t's vibrate more then any Austrian counterbalanced 2t's. I'd say Austrian 4t's vibrate the most imo
I have TC250 '23, and almost zero vibration compared my FC350'22. I like new gen Tc250 in every aspect. Just takes bit time to get used this stiff frame. At the beginning the frame felt like big wowwwww..
My 2020 ktm 300sx (big bore kit) doesn't vibrate at all.
👍👊✊😉
whys eveone bitching about them then??.....
braaaaaaaaaaaaapp
It's a 300 barley bigger than a 250 ...it's a beginners bike far from a breast....hahah😂 a 450 is the only breast on the. Track.....just giving it to ya straight
You’re drunk
