I’ll have some cylinder heads available soon. The 300sx chamber shape is completely different than the 250. Im excited to try different shapes. If you guys want to test anything let me know.
The 2017 and up 250sx bikes didn't vibrate bad at all, the 12-16 did pretty bad. Keefer obviously knows his stuff but it would be nice to hear from people more in tune with riding 2-strokes on a regular basis (not just "I like it because you can ride it more like a 4-stroke"). Bike sure is intriguing to try...
I’ve got a 15 300EXC and now a 23 300SX, the new one is like butter in comparison. The old bike is ok as it has PHDS mounts and Fasst Co pegs. Otherwise it vibes like a MF!😵💫 Go for a 100-120km desert loop and you ain’t feeling your fingers at the end. 😂 Only just put the 1st hour on it but it’s nice, super crisp and clean. Cleaner even than the old bike with the 38HV Lectron on it, especially on the overrun. Not as aggressive as the 300SXS kit CDI but it’s a not run in yet. Impression is it’s easier to ride but still a smoker a heart. 😎
Man did it live up to the hype! I wanna get this but XC 300. Since I came from riding a Traditional 2 Stroke it would be great having my 2 stroke skills transfer but It has leniency as I haven’t ridden in 2 years. At first I was considering yz250 but then this bike was announced it’s really something else. Props to KTM for innovating on 2ts still. Best thing that came from this generation we can choose operation options on 2 strokes now 🤘
@@erikmoulder9975 well it does have a extended gas tank, Kick Stand, Hand Gaurds and skid plate. I've researched and watched plenty of vids on the xc. The gearing is almost the exact same as a sx but its more for single trail and somewhat track. Mostly the riding i did was on trails but we have to wait a couple of months or years to get those aftermarket parts on the sx to get it up to par with the xc.
Sounds like my next buke as well. Been riding a 250sx for the past several years and just love it but a couple extra horses and electric start sounds like the perfect bike.
I like that an anti premix guy is testing this bike. That's real feedback. I love my heavily modded 2022 SX250. I'm buying this bike once they figure out the injection. 927 and VP until the wheels fall off.
Coming from a 2013 250sxf. I really have to stay on the front of this bike all the time in air and on the ground to keep the front end down. Map 1 is great, feels like a more powerful 250f map 2 is crazy fast and you can feel some of that 2 stroke powerband. The frame and suspension is very stiff. I'm only 150lbs but it feels like my supercross bike. 144psi in the fork 4.2 rear spring, stock was 4.5. The shock damping is still firm but I have more comp clickers I can back out on. I do like a firm suspension though. This bike does awesome in sandy turns!
The instability in the air is the reason I don't ride 2 strokes anymore for mx. You have to adjust your weight and sometimes it's possible to overweight the front end and land front wheel first which twiches the handlebars. If you leave the throttle on for too long then you land front wheel high. It's just really easier to make mistakes than a 4 stroke and my body can't take much more broken bones so I'm sticking to the 4 strokes for mx although 2 strokes are truly way more fun. These mistakes don't happen daily but I rode a modern 2 stroke for an entire year two times a week and had 3 or 4 major crashes when on my 4 stroke I only had one or two.
Great review, Keep us posted on this bike. Ive been out of racing and riding mx for 10 years. Want a new bike again and want to start riding again. plus 55, 6'4" 210. MX/fast trails. Luv your reviews!
I have a 2023 300 tbi, it’s great in every way for me, except the random bog/cut out of power that seems to plague a handful. Did it on a jump face. A dudes new husky on a facebook group did it on a jump and he broke his shoulder. It’s like the kill switch is hit when you grab a handful of throttle. Some kind of electrical glitch, either fuel delivery or power valve, map reset…something. It’s very random and when you least expect it. Again, best bike I’ve ever had except this issue.
Im in Australia and I put my deposit down the day after the bike was announced. Should be here late December. Would not wanna be a ktm dealer here...so hard for them to get any stock..Australia gets drip fed..dealer says my 300 will be the one and only one he will be allocated this year...bugger all 125's and bugger all 250's either although they do seem to be ok for 4 stroke supply. Honda, Kawasaki, and Suzuki should have kept making full size 2 strokes. They are loosing a large chunk of the market and it makes no sense. Younger riders are jumping ship after the minis are done. They may be going all in on electric and people just aren't going to like it. If they brought back the RM125, RM250, CR250, CR125, KX125, and KX250 even in their last model with upgraded plastics they would make a total killing. They may have made a deal with the new green deal I guess.
It’s good to know you guys were having a horribly good time on this motorcycle! Now you have to explain this to all of your four stroke riding buddies.
Run race fuel , notice a huge difference you don’t get that loaded feeling right before you load , that’s on an 18 model I’m assuming this will run the same way 👍 makes it even better to ride
I have one on the way. This will make KTM # 30 ( most came from Zack Osborne’s family Dealership in VA.) and 300 # 14 .Ive had 2 450’s But I just prefer a 300 2 stroke myself.
Have you guys seen any pistons exploding? I've seen several vids from customers about this? This bike is AWESOME. Imagine putting a little work in the motor. Great competitor to 450s. I want it.
ah, Keefer?... you said maybe run race fuel to limit running rich. but no... race fuel and avgas have a higher octane, which means a lower flash point, which in turn acts like the bike is richer. if you want to lean the thing out or help it not load up, run a slightly lower octane fuel (or switch brands). the bigger the two-stroke bore, the more the OEM normally reduces the compression ratio. lower compression prefers a lower octane. it cant burn all the fuel per stroke if the octane is too high, so the engine will be slower. this was true when Arctic Cat made their first 1000 cc twin two -stroke in a snowmobile (2007). It was a dog on premium, but ran perfect on 87 octane. the book for this new 300 suggests 93 octane, but keep in mind our fuels are different than overseas. its common to see 97 and even 98 octane when traveling abroad. so to them 93 is not the highest grade fuel. but in saying all that, each gas station in every part of the country, has various ages of fuel... so the octane readings are all over the place. plus different refineries put out different quality of fuels, so be careful. get your gas from a station that has a high turn over of fuel. running a hotter spark plug may also help prevent a bike you can't jet from loading up.
this test was at 3300 feet elevation, which might make the fuel map a bit rich anyway if KTM has not done their homework yet. as far as loading up, they did run 91 octane fuel, not 93, so i guess the thing is just going to need map work.

If Yamaha was smart, they would sell a conversion fuel injection kit for their bikes. They would make a killing. Keep manufacturing the bike the way it is since the motor is the best ever made. Update suspension, frame, brakes, and plastics as things change.
Well well well what if they were allowed in the pro level racing supecross… nvm FIM / AMA wanted them dead. They are coming back, now allow them and a higher dicplacement to race in the 450 class. It would raise the level and give the sport a second breath if you will. The sport has been very one dimensional with the four strokes since 06. Make it happen!
Honda wanted them dead. The sanctioning bodies caved to the pressure by changing their rules, starting w/MotoGP & then the FIM shortly there after. Yamaha just were the first to react to the shift in the off road space. Blame Honda.
@@MikeDana87 Yeah i heard that story but not sure why Honda should dictate such premises, and now soon 20 years later anyway. Time to rethink the position.
Going 40:1 would actually richen it.....but yeah, I’d rather foil a couple plugs here and there but keep my top and bottom end extra lubed! 40:1 or 50:1 for me on this machine!
To people who say it's like riding a perfectly jetted carb bike, I'd say move the needle a half a clip ans go 1 size down on the pilot jet and the air screw will do the rest 😆
People who aren’t familiar with two strokes are the ones saying this bike feels like a four stroke. That’s a stupid statement. These bikes feel just like the 17-19 KTM two strokes with a well jetted keihin carb. The bikes run awesome, but they aren’t even close to four strokes on feel.
If the green map opens the power valve all the way then why would it have more power down below? Would be better if they got someone who understood two strokes a little more to this review. There are a couple other inconsistencies in this video as well.

@@philiprourke7732 Not for their first year. I mean over all this bike will appeal to more people then the standard 125,150 or 250 2-stroke in the line up. Think of how many people have asked for a bike like this over the years? Even at the 2-stroke nationals all the best bikes are 300's, so to now have a 300 mx bike I can't see them not selling great.
What are you talking about “direct injection” ? There are no direct injection two stroke dirt bikes in production from any manufacturer. Direct injection is used on some snowmobiles and two stroke outboard boat engines. Not sure if you know what direct injection is.
Bimota tried to make a EPA street legal 500 vtwin Direct injection two stroke in the late 90s and had so many problems they eventually put on carbs and sold it as a track bike in the us. It’s a shame there couldn’t be a new direct injection two stroke that could be street legal . Imagine a 180 hp 320 lb sport bike
I wonder if the 250sx 2t still has more of those characteristics. A 300sx is just a bit of an odd combo. The grunt of a 300 is great for offroad riding where you aren't on the pipe and in the right gear all the time. Give me a 300xc (which I have, and love) or xcw. But a 300sx, I dunno.
Why are two people who don’t like or ride 2 strokes reviewing a 2 stroke? Any 2 stroke that feels, rides and reacts like a 4 stroke loses my interest instantly.
KTM should provide an adjustable gear shift lever and an adjustable rear brake lever. It's not "Ready to Race" when you have difficulty operating the hand and foot controls. Kris Keifer, to make it run better.... with a few more hours on it? did you try changing the spark plug? did you try changing the fuel/oil ratio?
Competition is not about beeing lazy and than you got all your answers today sport is about money tehnical material in this case the bike and less human qualities hard work talent and so on the 4 stroke gave the oportunity to all lazy fat ass to rine even in some competition people that have nothing to do with sport and potential brake theyr neck on a 250 two stroke. From my point of view this bike suppose to be tested by top factory pilots not by people who still ride just for fun no offence.
Is this one of the ones that cripples the bike so they can sell features back to you piecemill? If so it needs to be boycotted so freaking hard. I hope no one ever buys this crap.

Think of how many people have asked for a bike like this over the years? Even at the 2-stroke nationals all the best bikes are 300's, so to now have a 300 mx bike I can't see them not selling great.
Well they better get on it....its no good when customers have the money and are lining up to buy the bike, then get told maybe next year...
So they are now taking the fun out of two strokes. It figures.
What are you talking about “direct injection” ? There are no direct injection two stroke dirt bikes in production from any manufacturer. Direct injection is used on some snowmobiles and two stroke outboard boat engines. Not sure if you know what direct injection is.
New cars and trucks use direct injection. It’s put into the cylinder at 2200 psi using a mechanical fuel pump
This Bike is what every 2 stroke fan has been waiting for. 300 grunt with Fuel Injection!!
pipe and silencer? just wait for Vortex ecu
Sounds like it's lost all the characteristics i love about a 2 stroke
I wonder if the 250sx 2t still has more of those characteristics.
A 300sx is just a bit of an odd combo. The grunt of a 300 is great for offroad riding where you aren't on the pipe and in the right gear all the time. Give me a 300xc (which I have, and love) or xcw. But a 300sx, I dunno.
Forks looked a bit soft and hanging down in the stroke.
Tldw if youre fat/old get a 250 four stroke.
Braaap!
It's fuel injected- it automatically adjusts to the elevation...
what bikes are direct injected?
The KTM xc models
@@caydenthompson126 there are none, xcw are TPI, xc and sx are TBI. No DI exist anywhere.
This man need a light 500af
Is there enough room to make it a 360 ?
Looks really good !
If its feeling blubbery Try 50:1 it will lean out the fuel as slightly more oil and increase lubrication Slightly.
I agree 👊.. Sounds total Factory ✊ Sweet bike.. Thanx Fellas.. 😉
direct injection??? tpi is tranfer port injection not direct injection.
God I want this bike so bad
I totally agree!! 4 strokes are just better!!
Man I'd love to have one
Yz250 = 🐐
Huh? Both of those are adjustable and a better design than any Japanese model
Lol, what are you talking about bro…?
Length of levers.
I’m just hear to say, they should make a jap 300 four-stroke!
I see the pistons are exploding in these new Ktm 300’s.
really?
23
From a racing perspective, would it be a crime against humanity if “they” compared 300 4T with 300 2T?
Or else it’s rubbish
This is such a bad and sloppy review….
Ktm 300sx or husqvarna fc350?
Four stroke doesn't have a soul ..
Not a 2 stroke guy... means you tuck it under.
This bike needs a softer seat.
😂😂😂 rutted track.... looks like tarmac (live in Europe)
Can't believe KTM charge a fortune for a bike with a frame from the 90s
the plastics on that thing are horrible. more shroud. less...whatever that side plate thing is doing.
@Alistair Balistair I just discribe you on upper text?😂
at least we have Keefer on record as being lazy. which we all suspected.
Fast but brokeback.
Uiiiiii❤
Is this one of the ones that cripples the bike so they can sell features back to you piecemill? If so it needs to be boycotted so freaking hard. I hope no one ever buys this crap.
Too bad so many of them are blowing up.
A 450 is to much bike for 99%ppl the 300 or 350 is perfect no need to go bigger unless you’re racing it’s not a big dick challenge you’ll fine you ride a 300 or 350 much better than a 450 any day
If I couldn't be a 2 stroke gut, you know what I'd be? I'd be ashamed.
