A big thing everyone is forgetting is the electronically controlled power valve on the new ktms. The fuel injection is a small part of the big picture, the power valve having basically an infinite adjustment from 0-100% using an electric motor allows the powerband to be extremely linear. Check the vital dyno video out and like they say in the video, you can literally put a straight edge on the dyno graph because the powerr valve motor can adjust the exhaust port timing all the way through the power curve instead of it just snapping open like the mechanical designs we used for 20 years and the fuel mapping is perfected from the factory for precise fueling for the timing. The Honda cr250 with the RC valve was onto something unfortunately Honda was already moved on to 4 strokes and never perfected the design and implementation. Oh well, ktm to save the day until the electric bikes take over everything lol. Chad made that bike look great.
So the 300 has always been this way. A very torquey low to mid bike. Its why for decades now its been the choice of off road racers worldwide, even with the carb. The MX crowd is now about to discover the bike that literally built KTM as we know it.
Can’t wait to get mine and see how it compares to my 2015 300EXC with SXS kit bits, FMF and 38HV Lectron. The 450’s are easier to ride in the dunes but they’re nowhere near as fun. 😎🤙
@@klappy803 Unfortunately there isn't a 300 KTM Carbed MX bike from Factory. Hed be comparing it to Cross Country and Enduro hikes. And that isnt exactly an even test

@jonathoncook8367 I'm 2T through and through, and own & love my 2017 YZ 125 and a 2010 YZ 250. Can honestly say they wont hold a candle to even a 2008 KTM SX. The KTM engines, especially the newer ones with the counterbalance are FAR superior in every way its not even funny, thats without mentioning the ergo's, the brakes, the hydraulic clutch, the list goes on and on - even tuning capabilities (many tuners speak of this, go research) they are far superior machines in every way unfortunately. Yammy have a LONG road to catch up with how good the KTM's are. And that's just straight up facts dude.
I had the opportunity to ride a TM 300MX, electronic powervalve and Lectron carb bike with a pipe and high comp head. It made really smooth, predictable, strong electric feeling power from bottom to top, no soft spots, no hit, no surprises, It was everything Honda was hoping for with their RC valve bikes years ago, Honda may have missed the mark, but the TM was amazing. I expect this KTM to be the same, electric feeling with no hit and no weak points in the power band, very raceable and energy sparing power delivery.

@@jonruger Just sucks that the option isn't there to run a 250 2t with 250 4t. A laid out privateer 250 2t is a lot less cost and overhead than a 250 4t of comparable spec.
I grew up on two strokes in the 70's...racing YZ100, YZ125's. It's a 2 stroke with a very wide usable powerband!! this should scare every 4 stroke out there. imagine if they put a couple top riders on these. it would embarrass a entire field of 450's
The 450s still make considerably more power with a still wider power band. KTM claims 57 crank horsepower on the new 300sx and the new 450s are making that much power or more at the rear wheel on the dyno. Heck my old ass 2013 YZ450f made 55 wheel horsepower on a mustang dyno
No it wouldn’t. 450’s are still much more usable bikes. 2 strokes are fun bikes and so nostalgic but 4 stroke technology has long surpassed what is possible with 2 strokes for motocross bikes.
There should be a map that makes it feel like an old 2 stroke. I love the rocket ship hard work 2 stroke technique. You have to work a lot harder but people know when that 2 stroke is screaming it’s being ripped
Slightly more hp and torque than a 450. 10 pounds lighter. Easier to use in the corner. I'd say this thing is on par with a 450. Only disadvantage is the rider not being used to riding the bike the way it wants to be ridden.
Now that they have efi on the 2-strokes and people don't have to cry about them smoking, they ABSOLUTELY need to come back to Supercross and Motocross!!!! That thing sounds super gnarly!!
This new one is completely different. Ktm abandoned tpi. This new direct injection makes the power linear so four strokes can go to get it into the axx....
I know I need to do more research on this but I assume it still runs on premix. That means that the fuel is injected into the crank case. Is this a stepping stone to a full-on EFI that injects the fuel directly into the top of the cylinder? Meaning it won't need premix? It's a real shame that 4 strokes took over when they did. Imagine how much further along 2 strokes would be now.
300 feels like it's got a lot more power than the 250. I said before that my 300 had plenty of over rev but it was bc it was low compression. Fixed that with new top, you don't really need over rev when you got the more broad power.
