The 2023 KTM Two-Stroke lineup is all-new! Motocross Action got to ride the highly anticipated 300SX two stroke at Red Bud. This isn't a typical TESTED video from the MXA wrecking crew but we do give a brief overall description and details on the bike. KTM limited us to time on the bike so we worked with what was given. Also we have a bonus for our viewers! The 2023 KTM 250SX and 125SX two-stroke made their way into the video as well. All of these bikes are in pre-production form and are expected to be in our hands officially August 2022. Until then, enjoy our first day of initial feedback at one of the most iconic tracks on the circuit!

With all the manufacturers making electric bikes, I love ktm for improving two strokes. Used to be a honda guy but this makes me love KTM more.
KTM is far better these days! Husqvarna & GasGas are phenomenal.
What class is this made for ? Is there a 300 class now 🤔 or is it for 450
@@benkrauz725 this would be open or 450
They are doing great things with Electric bikes too.
KTM knows that ICE Is not going anywhere. Electric bikes are a FAD
So stoked on ktm continuing to evolve two strokes. Time to speak with the wallet.
the ktm 2023 xc model brought the leg to turn on
They should put Pleshinger on that 250 this year for the Nationals
I’m happy to see KTM improving 2 strokes. Hopefully other manufacturers get on the ball.
I hope somebody keeps offering a conventional bike with a carb and mechanical powervalve though. I have a carb'd 2018 300 XC and I just ride and ride it, there is little to go wrong, and can kickstart and ride it with a dead battery (even no battery at all).
Meanwhile I overhearing about TPI's sensor issues, ECU error codes coming up, cold seizures, and uploading new maps. The two injectors on this new one will be a possible problem, since they are on 4 strokes when they get fouled.
These new bikes may be great and I hope they are but I hope Beta or somebody keeps making a quality, simple 2 stroke.
@@EarthSurferUSA Not a bot. I’m not saying all bikes have to be done up with every technological thing in the world, but a solid 2 stroke with the possibility for improvements. Personally I like the Yamaha YZ250X platform as starting point for myself. Then I can add on what I want. Upgrade what I want and it will help me learn my bike- just like I’ve been doing since late 70’s. It helps to know your equipment so you can trail fix a breakdown and get home. Now I know this isn’t for everyone but it’s my opinion based on my likes is all.
Make two strokes great again!
so happy it’s premix.
Lol what happened to the electronic oil injection??
@@jmzochsnrtr doesn't work well on high performance bikes.
Why?
@@Davido50 did your KTM lock up because the oil injection broke?
i’m my opinion it’s good to be able to control the amount of lubricant your 2 stroke gets, TPI seems very lean to meet regulations but in turn can sometimes sacrifice longevity.
This is the bike everyone is excited for this year. Love to see ktm still putting in R&D on two strokes, wish it had the kick start still though
Yeah they should have it for a back up in case of the electronics are dead. Still a good bike with not having to mess with the carbs in certain altitudes. But the Rev Limiter on the 2 strokes is my new favorite thing!!
Yet on the yz250 everybody wants an electric start and hydrolic clutch lol
I’ll keep my 2022 150sx.I like kickstarting it and have been dealing with carburetors my entire life.I am 44 and old school but it just feels more like a real bike.Absolutely love it and all KTM’s
The Rieju 300 still has a kickstart and a carburetor plus KYB suspension and an FMF pipe.
Totally agree..... I'm 58 and love my '19' tc250, best woods bike I've experienced.....tuning a carb is easy, installed a Dicks Racing 36/39 modded Keihin with a tx300 enduro tank, then a Rekluse RadiusX and FWW.....it's lightweight...flat out rips and doesn't stall....great for hare scrambles/enduros.
more motocross 100 percent but electric start is better all round in enduro, still better in moto but doesn't matter as much.
I think for an MX bike, electric start only is fine, because youre never more than 5 minutes from your car, so can easily just push the bike back and jump start it. Enduro bikes on the other hand should always have a kick start cause youre often in the middle of nowhere
Agree 100%, not having a kickstart on an enduro is kinda silly
Enduro engine next year won't be the same as MX engine.
@@dronermal im aware
I can’t believe there’s no 150… i absolutely love the 150 sx :( It was the most fun bike on the market
Change cylinder
Very nice machines ! KTM is killing it. Top dogs in dirtbike market.
@@EarthSurferUSA Hondas been riding ktm for years
Love the fact you can have 2 totally different bike characters with the map switch. Sometimes easy to ride can be more fun and u still get that really light feeling and lack of engine breaking with a 2T!
Imagine where 2-stroke technology would be if Formula 1 adopted 2- strokes like they proposed a while ago.
Omg a 2 stroke F1 car would suckkkkk
I’d like to see laps times on the 300 compared to at 450. 🤘🏼
Everyone knows 2 strokes are faster than 4 strokes. Where you been the past 50 years....
@@jmzochsnrtr dont be silly. I love riding 2 strokes but these modern 450s absolutely blow them out of the water.
@@jmzochsnrtr brotha 😆 wake up
@@alexandrakingi8502 yeah modern motogp bikes 1000cc are way faster than the old motogp 500cc 🤦♂
@@alexandrakingi8502 no 4 strokes are still way slower with modern tech a 450 cc 2 stroke will destroy a 450 4 stroke i mean look at the 250s 2 strokes are way better
Finally 20 year old snowmobile technology on dirtbikes. Electronic power valves are 1980s GP bike tech, been wondering why it hasnt came sooner like honda did, and yamaha on their DT200 and TDR250
You're a smart man I was thinking the same thing two stroke technology has continued to improve many people don't know because it is improved on board snowmobiles
Because most of the efforts were botched (like that Honda powervalve). Many would probably argue the KTM TPI was botched. Tech from other places often doesn't translate well to high performance dirtbikes until said tech is super advanced. More often, dirtbike tech goes into other industries.
Case in point, electric dirtbikes being the proving ground for battery and motor tech.
Also the reason snowmobiles cost more and more every year and are closing in on $20k.
Same here I thought I bled red turns out it was dark orange
Very Cool 😎Thank you, Thank you Very Much 👍🏻
I have always been a suzuki 2 stroke man but starting to need newer models thinking hard about getting KTM at least they make 2 strokes new
I agree If I get a new bike going straight to the KTM group. Really nice machines now and I never thought I would say that but wow times have changed.
Make a 500 two stroke for us that would be beast
Really like KTM 300 2 stroke very smart Josh thanks dude👍💯
Great review! Can't wait for the full race review.
Not really how the power valve works but it does widen the usable power band.
and i like carburetor better also
What an epic media event for you guys. No better way for a manufacturer to prove their new technology. KTM will sell a lot of these tbi 2strokes.
Quick question. Does the mapping try to help deceleration lubrication issues 2 strokes have? Is the mapping tuned for a rich decel? And how does that affect the off throttle behavior?
Best dual sports you tube channel converts a tpi back to a properly tuned lectron carburetor and had HP gains throughout the entire rpm range with a gain of 6 peak HP.
I'm an off-road guy, and I'm in the market for a new 300; seeing the 2k price difference between the sx and xc, I think I'm going to get an sx.
Looks like I'm going KTM!
The shot thing is is that the new ktms still got them short bloody exhaust’s
My mind says yes but my body says no when you say it’s extremely smooth. I love my 300 as it is with a carb BUT i was looking forwards to tbi in hopes we would have some bark compared to TPI but your not lending much hope to that dream. I’ll remain hopeful until we get some production bikes around for true and more in depth opinions. 🤙🏻
Same here! Got -19 and now -21model with 300sxs kit, pro-circuit pipe/silencer and Boyesen radvalve. Put in that red exhaust spring and it's pure fun! Maybe not the fastest for me as a "weekend warrior", but groving up on 2t era I just simply love that hard hitting..Stock 250sx with yellow spring feels like a enduro bike =).
Why the ama in their infinite stupidity killed off the two strokes is beyond me.
Definitely going to buy another 300. It is the ultimate do it all weapon.
Was EPA /CAFE restrictions. You have Yamaha & KTM brands still. They are better than old stuff .
the ktm 2023 xc model brought the leg to turn on
the 125 sounds so good
I loved my 94 300 MXC. The 550 MXC was way more exiting. Had to have a vary stern talk with my right hand B4 riding that thing
Jesus dude... you can ride that thing!
I ordered the 300xc last week, can't wait to get this beast 🍻
Nice.
XC is not this version. The enduro versions are the same as '22. I too have ordered a 300 XC-W. We will not get any of these updates until at least '24.

@@normanorench2534 Not sure I understand you comment?
@@kirkwilliams4942 it's a UA-cam bot. That same exact comment is on most of the other comments
considering most modern day riders have no clue how to jet a carb this was likely the right move
its because everything is fuel injected now, except for these two stroke bikes
Darn. Stoked that ktm has kept producing 2 strokes I’ve been a 2 stroke guy for awhile now and just got a 22 husky tc250 and love it! But a little sad at the moment because I (alike a lot of other 2 stroke guys) like them because they are old school (kick start, carbs, a little harder to ride, etc) and they just took a lot of the classic 2 stroke out of their bike which is kinda why we are riding and buying them
Nah it's all evolution!
the ktm 2023 xc model brought the leg to turn on
I really want the 300sx
Im glad they are putting purple back on the bikes
I would like to see that 300 race against a 450. 👍🏻 🇨🇦🇺🇸
How could ktm drop the blue colours!!?? I have the 22 350 and it is a beauty of a bike
125 😍
I'd like to know if the 250sx still hit like it used to. I have been considering getting a much newer bike than my 200sx but wanted to stay on the moto side of things and the e-start would be much welcomed. However, if the 250sx has a mellow powerband like the 300sx, that sounds like less fun. I want that HIT!
I ordered mine
I have that same motor 0 miles, new box, it has already damaged me 4 waits and it does not have a 1 hour of use
...what was that intro piece of music from??? Awesome...
Map 1...the vet setting.
How are 2-strokes still in production in 2022?
What is mix ratio fuel to oil.on the 300sx?
Very interesting stuff! I still have a carb ktm 250 but having a mellow map sounds nice. I will say i didnt like hondas electric pv but i am sure 25 years later ktm will gwt it right. Having a 10 year old 250xc im not super thrilled the sx got rid of the kick start all together.....
Wish Suzuki would build 2 strokes again like an RMX250/300.
No audio 😢
Thanks for sharing. I love the channel I just subscribed.
How long do you have to warm up the motorcycle when it is cold so that the spark does not melt?
KTM, bring out a 500cc. You can then simply explain to riders how the throttle works for power delivery; want more power, pull on the throttle more; want less, ease off on it. 😂
I’m buying the300.
Curious if you can change anything on the mapping. Or do we need an aftermarket ecu ?
I can't wait for my 23 300sx gunna be a blast. I was wondering are they 5 or 6 speeds.
the ktm 2023 xc model brought the leg to turn on
5 speed on the SX bikes.
@@mbrick i was just at the dealership and I ran through the gears (on show floor) '22 250sx and I swear it had a 6 speed. Very strange
Not enough power for Laroccos leap?
They weren’t allowed to jump it
Danggg that’s a sexy bike if I ever seen one
I'll take one of each
Damn I was hoping it would still have the 2 stroke hit.
Powervalve is electric now so you’ll just need a different map with an aftermarket ecu
Totally agree the two stroke hit = FUN FACTOR, lm not a fan of the homogenizing os sport vehicles, yes it mighr be faster but not as fun same with getting rid od manual transmission in sports cars
Where do u get the mount for your helmet? Chin mount that drops down? That’s the perfect angle.
Does the 150 have all these new mods you mention? I'm guessing if the 125 does then the 150 does??
Where is this track? It looks like heaven
Ktm really sticking to the great ol saying. MIXING GAS, HAULING ASS
Can you guys edit some clips bouncing off the new rev limiter when aired out? Sounds unreal.
Can you swap modes while your riding?
Will the husky and gas gas get the same mods as the KTM such as the electric start and fuel injection?
Husky already have fuel injection
Husky yes, Gasgas MC250 remains carbureted.
@@jayryan1956 no they don’t, the new ones will though
I LOVE THE HAD HITTING PIPE BUT I'M 60...
Heil to the King . . . KTM
So the 300sx is a little smoother than the 300sx kits even in aggressive map?
Cheers man. Altitude compensation?
they have auto compensation!
Wish we could tell which one u were riding in the vid. And if that was the 300 in beginning looked like a slug compared to earlier years
I want a 200, that'd be perfect
You have the test the maco 700.
Thank god it's remix
If I was rich im buying a 150 a 300 and maybe 2-3 4 strokes
For whatever reason i can only watch it in 360p.
Takes a bit for UA-cam to catch up sometimes. Try again soon
How come the first UA-cam review of these bikes is from America! Have I missed something, wheres the Euro reviews?
The SX aren’t coming to the UK till September, not sure about the rest of Europe.
0:52 why would an electric start bike not have a kickstarter? what happens when you get a flat battery? that lightweight little piece of aluminium could be a lifesaver.
Perhaps do the "Bump Start" thing.
Absolute monsters of a bike
Lectron and Smart Carbs are sweating rn 😂😭
Are they still 60:1?
Yes.
💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💯
They couldn’t just pump the forks a bit for you?
I agree lol; however, I did learn the other day that in all this time I’ve been racing with air forks, I’ve been adjusting them wrong. The air only effects the height of the bike and keeps the front end up. It doesn’t do anything in terms of stiff or soft, that comes from the clickers. Not a hostile response at all, just trying to spread knowledge.
@@Certifiedtrolllll right, but I thought I heard him say it was diving a bit. The air affects hold up like spring rates. Guess he meant valving 🤷🏼♂️
When he said soft he could have been talking about the damping and not the spring rate (errr. "air pressure"). 👍👍
Burns less oil than the 4 strokes;)
It's only 294cc not full 300
But... did any one hit laracos leap?
They weren't aloud to by ktm one of the press people said
Ktm 300 and husky TE 250/ 300 been fuel injecting production enduro models since 2019 why’s it such a surprise and ‘new’ that the motocross bikes now have fuel injection.
Totally different, TPI vs TBI. Also electronic power valve is added in now.
the ktm 2023 xc model brought the leg to turn on?
I own a 2001 RMX250 with RM tank and seat to ride mx and won't part from it for no amount of money.
Two throttle cables
Where's the 500cc or 450cc 2 stroke?
Where's the fabled electronic oil injection 💉 that's supposed to solve the emission problem???
My rm250 stock sounds better
6 speed ??
SX will be a 5 speed, the spec sheet says 5 speed for the XC's as well but it's early yet so it might still come in as a 6 speed (but again right now it's spec'd as a 5).
Made in USA 💪
No kick stater 😭

Rock is dead.
Two-strokes are not.
Bruh
Didn’t hit the leap though
Yamaha
The 1984 Yamaha rz350 also had a electronic power valve this is not new technology for two strokes but at least this new technology for the dirt also I might add mellowing out the Power Band to feel more like a four-stroke is for pussies!
Yes someone else metioned it better than the news about dum EV bikes. Those are disgusting. 2-stroke or 4-stroke FOREVER
