    Old Rusted Drill Vise - Tool Restoration | Mister Patina
    In this Video i‘m restoring an old drill Vise - i found this drill vise in my grandfathers basement, he used it for working with wood and other materials.
    I started with a full functional inspection of the drill vise. The threads were mostly in a good condition, the clamps werent hardened but very used. After the disassembly i smoothed all the surfaces and other marks by filing and sanding. The body got two coats of primer and "Hammerite" spraypaint, the screws and the handle were blued with acid bluing. The clamps got fire blued: i heated the clamps to ~300 degrees celsius and put them into warm olive oil. This process hardens the clamps, makes them rustproof and gives them a nice anthracite finish. While assembly, i put the parts back together with a lot of grease. The final check shows: it works perfectly fine and looks nearly brand new :)
    I will use this drill vise in my upcoming Videos - so stay tuned and enjoy, i really hope you like it.
    If you have any questions or suggestions, you can write an email, i try to answer asap.

    Everyone's always removing sharp edges, not realizing those were an intentional feature of old stuff meant to cull the weak.

    Sie haben sich da wirklich viel Mühe gegeben und der Schraubstock sieht ganz gut aus. Ein paar Sachen möchte ich allerdings noch anbringen, die so nicht ganz korrekt sind: 1. Beim Bett (Führungsflächen) des Schraubstocks kommt es darauf an, dass er Plan ist. Das Finish hat hier dazu geführt, dass die Flächen leicht verrundet sind, das sollte man vermeiden. Das Bett zu schleifen hat in dem Sinne auch nichts mit dem Entfernen von Gussspuren zu tun. 2. Stahl wird gehärtet indem er glühend (ab ca 800°C) in Öl oder Wasser getaucht und damit abgeschreckt wird. Da der Stahl danach aber zu hart und spröde ist, wird selbiger noch angelassen. Dies geschieht bei Werkzeugen bis zu einem schönen Gelbton des Stahls (ca 220-250°C). Was sie da bei 330°C mit dem Olivenöl gemacht haben, kann ich nicht nachvollziehen. ;) 3. Beim Senken und Entgraten der Löcher bitte wesentlich weniger Drehzahl nehmen um diese Rattermarken zu vermeiden. 4. Sowohl Unterseite des Schraubstocks als auch Anlagefläche der Backe sollten nicht lackiert werden. Zum einen, um Spuren durch Abrieb zu verhindern, zum anderen, um das "Festgammeln" der Backe zu vermeiden.

    • @misterpatina
      @misterpatina  3 роки тому +2

      Erfahrunggemäß kann ich zu Punkt 4 noch ergänzen, dass die lackierte Unterseite die Präzision auf dem Planschitten (bspw.) irritiert. Besser wäre hier gewesen die Unterseite auf einer geebneten Marmorplatte plan zu schleifen.
      Ich danke Dir vielmals für diese sehr guten Kritikpunkte! Ich versuche mich immer zu verbessern und werde mir deine Worte im Kopf behalten. Ich hoffe dennoch, dass Dir das Video gefallen hat! :-)
      Gruß aus Frankfurt!

      @@misterpatina selbstverständlich ist das Video dennoch super und besser als das Gepfusche der meisten UA-camr. Genau deshalb habe ich so ausführlich kommentiert, weil man merkt, dass sie sich schon viel Mühe gemacht haben und die Sache eigentlich ernsthaft betreiben wollen. Das merkt man auch in neueren Videos. Im Maschineneinsatz ist natürlich auch essentiell, dass die Unterseite plan ist, das stimmt.

    • @misterpatina
