  • The old rusty vise I received from a friend looked at first glance quite well preserved, but on closer inspection it was destroyed.
So I went to the vise with joy :)

It's great work, but the man WET-sanded the PRIMER for God's sake! Is there now a circuit of vise shows around the world, where people bring their customized vises and put them on display with special lighting and pedestals with mirrors under them so you can see the work that was done on the under-carriage? Or maybe these are the vises that are installed in the trailers for all of the trailer-queen cars that ALSO got their primer coats wet sanded. Regardless, it WAS fun to watch, and be sure that you send both This Old Tony and Frank Howarth a Christmas card!

Another great restoration. Very nice work rebuilding the broken missing jaw seat and fabricating the missing jaw. Nice detail with the fabrication of the acorn nuts, and I especially like the blackened metal finish combined with the glossy red paint. It probably did not look this good when it came from the factory!

That casting was horrible. How did that ever get through quality control? Says a lot about the manufacturer as a whole if they’re willing to put their name on that mass produced, zero quality piece of garbage. That’s the kind of crap we expect from the Chinese, with low prices to match the low quality.
Their name isn’t worthy of your work. I would have ground it off.

Again you have gone beyond necessary levels to complete this project at a much higher standard. The modifications you made brings a new look to an ordinary vise. This one went from tool room nasty to showroom ready. Only thing was the music at the beginning and end of the project, I got the "heavy metal" theme but really it was not necessary. Be safe, mask-up, and always take care, Texas is watching, thanks.

A little advise, most dish washing soaps, Dawn being one of the best are just as an effective degreaser as acetone; they are actually chemically designed to cut and remove grease. Also this was the first time I saw the use of a mill; did you aquire a milling machine, or was this done by someone else?
