44 years ago I took care of a woman who was 105. She would say the 1st 100 years was the hardest. She had a bandage on her leg one day. I asked what happened and she had cut it on a screen door the day I wasn't there. I helped her with the bandage change. She had used yarrow. It was clean and healing so quick. My introduction to yarrow.

We had an insident of a cow ripping her ear tag out and was bleeding quite a bit. My daughter came running in looking for Yarrow and could only find the tincture. Back outside she hoped her aim was good because she figured she only had one shot. This cow is kind of skiddish around us. My daughter tossed the liquid at the cows ear. Her aim was good and hit the target. The cow was startled no doubt due to the alcohol stinging but the yarrow did it's job and stopped the bleeding. Truly an amazing gift from God. Thank you for the video. i am enjoying being part of the school. Lianna

Me too! I’ve started potted herbs, my yarrow isn’t growing big yet but I think I need to upsize the pot. My mullein has gone NUTS and is SOOOO big… I hope it hasn’t put roots down through the bottom of the pot into the ground 🙈 (we are moving in the near future and I want to take my plants with me!) I killed my radium weed- not sure how, and my arnica and elacampagne aren’t doing as well as they should, so I need to work out why they aren’t happy
Have fun, it’s great to be growing some fun herbs!

Hi Doc! Up here in Interior Alaska, I have a couple of varieties of yarrow growing wild in my yard. Natives here have traditionally used it for colds, and I always add it to my home made chicken soup when someone in the family is sick.

OMG, I wish I knew about Yarrow last month. My dog had 7 teeth removed. When I picked him up from the vet he was whining with pain. The had put a cone around his neck so he wouldn't hurt himself. When we got home he was crying so bad that I took the cone off immediately. I said GOD PLEASE HELP ME TO HELP HIM. God said WALK HIM. I got up off of the floor and he followed me. He wasn't crying. I walked him up and down the hallway twice. Then, I carried him while walking in the hallway. When we came into the apartment he was more quite. I took some CBD OIL and put it in some yogurt. He ate it. I push a real soft throw under his head and laid down in his bed with him. Soon he was fast asleep. I spent the night on the sofa next to his bed. He slept all thru the night and was much better as far as whining. I gave him his pain med and rested for the rest of the day. For the next week I just pampered him. FYI, I literally have a Bag of Yarrow powder and never new it was good for pain and bleeding too. Sheeeeesh!

I have a micro-dairy 100 miles south of the Arctic Circle. Our cows do spend a good portion of the winter outside because they don’t have problems… except for frostbite on the tips of their teats. We’ve started using powdered yarrow for a winter post milking teat dip and it is working very well.

Two of my children, both adults, ended up with a horrible round of diarrhea. One was in so much pain from the bloating and spasms, she was contemplating an ER trip.
I had recently watched this video and I had a bag of yarrow I had purchased over 5 years ago for a dog with itchy skin. At the time I purchased it, I couldn't figure out what to do with it so it has sat in my cupboard since.
I figured I would give it a shot and made tea for both of them. The one who had been in pain fell asleep a short time later and slept all night. Both were feeling better by the next evening.
Off to buy fresh yarrow and get some tincture started.
Thank you for your informative and entertaining videos. I'm trying to figure out how I can fit the school into my schedule and budget.

As I was commenting on ways I use yarrow tincture, my 4 month old kitten added another to my list. He jumped on my shoulder, tried to climb to my head, lost his balance and dug into my scalp. Not wanting poultice in my hair, I put the tincture on a cloth and cleaned the bloody wounds. I keep yarrow tincture in a glass amber spray bottle to also spray a sore throat, and puncture wounds. I mainly just use a poultice on bigger cuts and wounds.

I love yarrow. Husband on blood thinners so I keep powder around the house for a quick fix. I use it my boo-boo slave, also in my bitters blend. When pickling nettle I make a strong tea and put some in a spray bottle. If I get stung I spray instantly and
It never develops. For hives just spray on the tea or make sting tea and bath with it. Love, love. Love this herb.

Yo Doc! Thank you so much for adding your input to the herbal world. I got into it in my high school years, at the end of the cold war , when Patrick Swayze made a movie about what we all knew was about to happen, then life happend, and I got away from it. Yarrow was one of the herbs I hung on to my whole life though. Last summer I was clearing brush at my buddies house and I wanted to show his kids what can happen if you dont watch yourself carefully when swinging a machete, so I sunk it into my shin just below the knee. Part two of the lesson was how to improvise a bandage with duct tape and a Burger King napkin. I couldnt get the bleeding to stop so I stuffed some yarrow under a new duct tape bandage, which did good untill I got to the hospital for stitches the next day. When the nurse took the duct tape off my leg and seen the herbal compress she asked, “what’s that?” I said yarrow. She musta been an herbalist too because she didnt say anything else. Apparently she approved of my choice of herbs. She must not have been much of one though because she didnt recognise the leaves. It never bled again, even when the doc took a fingernail brush to it.

My property is so poor (plus we've had some drought) that even weeds haven't grown well! Since I'm just kind of starting in this business of foraging, yarrow is one of the few things I've been able to forage. I cut myself with a rotary cutter (a quilting tool) and I crumbled some yarrow and piled it on under the bandaid. I guess it worked well, because the wound is no longer bleeding and healing nicely. I didn't use any ointment from the drugstore.

Yarrow is actually known as a plant that likes to improve soil. Its crazy root system has done wonders to the clay here in my herb garden. It also likes to absorb toxins, so be mindful of that. You dont want to eat yarrow that has been purifying the ground of something toxic.

This is definately an amazing plant, I always have this on hand in many forms. I have just in the last 2 years started actually making and applying herbal medicines to my household and this one was at the forefront. Also Cayenne, Goldenrod , Comfrey, Calendula, Dandelion, Wild roses, Mullein, Plantago always. Yarrow grows wild everywhere around northern ontario canada, I brought some seed home actually last year so it will be around my property now and I wont need to go far. I missed the window for the comfrey seeds last year but I will have that here too lol I know of 2 patches where it grows, I use some to make my own liquid feed for the garden. I love plants

I was always wandering - wouldn't yarrow interfere with the menstruation, if it has properties to stop the bleeding?
I learned that the strain in uterus muscles and water retention do their job to create the pressure to "push" the blood out, to start the menstrual cycle.
So it also seems to me counter intuitive to use diuretic, when the body is trying to retain water for a purpose.
I'd greatly appreciate explanation because I am looking for a long time for a proper herbal routine to help me prepare for period and lessen period pain.
