- I'm excited to post my first mod install video. I'm starting off with the Sokie Tech no drill hood struts. It's a big mod that is super easy to install and doesn't require drilling holes in my truck.

Thank you for the great video and product demo. I generally suck at DIY car/truck projects -- HOWEVER, after watching your video, I returned my high end struts and bought a pair of the Sokies. I had them installed in 30 minutes. Like you said, the hardest part of the project was dealing with the Florida heat and humidity. Thanks again!
Thanks for taking the time to move the camera when needed to give the viewer an angle to actually see what you were doing!! I have watched several of these install videos while waiting for my Sokitech struts to arrive and this one is the best I have seen.

I had ordered these for my 2020 Tacoma and had them before the truck even arrived at the dealership. Like you I was shy about drilling into the hood of my first brand new vehicle. I wanted the Spiker kit but no drill with these won. They actually work good for over a year. Lift the hood higher than the prop rod too.

I almost wished I had gone with these for the reason you mention (lifting the hood higher than the prop rod). I went with then RedLine “drill and rivet” hood strut. They actually don’t bring the hood up as far as the prop rod which is my only gripe with the RedLines. You definitely can’t go wrong with these no drill struts. Hood struts are a must with this behemoth of a hood.
I love the no drill design of these, but I wish they had found a way to utilize the existing holes in the hood right above the tape points. The bracket would only need to be about an inch longer.
True. The struts push on the hood at a low angle. I'm no engineer, but it seems like it takes a lot more force to push the hood up at that angle. But it works, and works great. I absolutely love that I didn't have to drill any holes or use the riveting tool.
I was worried about that too, but they seem to be stable and work well.

The tape seems like a serious oversight. I probably wouldn’t ever buy this kit. But I hope it works for you.
There are so many other good strut kits out there.
I get what you're saying about the adhesive. Functionally, it works very well. The plate adapter is held primarily by a bolt. The adhesive acts as a support to keep the plate from wiggling loose from vibration.

Andf if, like me you drop one of the screws under the windshield washer cannister, lots of light will help find it. Very easy install. Thanks
Didn't drop anything on this install but on another install I did, and even light didn't help. I have a cheap telescoping magnet retrieval tool from harbor freight and just waved it around the dark crevice the part dropped into. No better relief than hearing and feeling that *kaklink * 🤣🤣🤣

I put red line drill type hood struts on as soon as I saw them I wrapped a ton of electrical tape on the top of the bit exposing less than three one quarter of and inch stopping the bit just after the puncture went really slow and it went fine but if these where around back then I would have definitely gone this way hate drill holes in my truck but I couldn't live without some kind of strut they should come standard at this time
Wow. That's quite the MacGyver 🤣 . But agreed. Just didn't feel confident with drilling holes in my hood.
No reason to be intimidated by drilling and riveting if you go with that type of strut. You just have to take your time and follow the directions, I went the the RedLine hood struts that do require drilling and riveting and I love the way they turned out. That being said, these are a great alternative and seem to function just fine. Anytime you can use existing holes/ hardware is always a good option.

I did the redline struts, the drilling wasn't a big deal as long as you paint the holes. Not chancing some adhesive popping loose. Hope they work out for a long time for you good luck.
It's a personal blast to check my oil while I fuel up. I'm sure no one around knows tacomas don't come standard with struts but it's a personal gratification that I added it

Hey Brad. Great question. They are Toyo Tires Open Country 31" tires. The wheels are Fuel brand 17"; not quite sure of the specific model. Believe it or not, the dealership added these mods off the transport truck. I put it in my "Already done mods" video as if I did them myself... 🤫 . At first I didn't even pay attention to this truck because I thought it was a customer's truck that parked next to all the new tacos 😅.

Interesting mounting points. It will pose a problem if you want to install ditch lights as the mounting point for a ditch light bracket is the same. Still a nice hood strut though... enjoy!
Yeah we'll see. Because if I get into off roading, I'll probably want to add some ditch lights. But from what I've seen from some of our fellow Taco lovers' channels is that it doesn't interfere with it at all.

Hey have you noticed the the studs you put in to where the ground bolt go on the drivers side and the one you put into the threaded opening on the passenger side bending at all? Mine are bending out a bit from the pressure.
I have these same ones on for about 6 months and they work great. I have noticed no bending of the mounts. I did put anti sieze on the threads before installing so they went in all the way, but dont over tighten. I also cleaned the hood area twice with alcohol before installing the upper mounts.
your angle does not support the weight of the hood. i think a lil bit more vertical angle would carry the hoods weight much better.
That's what I thought too. The pressure must be higher than it should be to be at the angle. But hey, it works.
More wasted money,nothing wrong with the factory setup that never needs replacing.
