Man, looking at your face during the tweaking of the knobs is almost as fun as listening you play! Pure joy! Sold the pedal for me... Keep up the great demos Burgs. Greetz from the "Beer-country" Belgium!!!
As awesome as it sounds in this demo - and it does sound awesome! - it doesn't even do it justice. Just got the pedal today and... OH MY!!! It is beyond awesome!
With all these amp-in-a-box pedals out there, I'm surprised pedal companies don't just slap a 100W solid state power amp onto their pedals and make a rack unit out of it.
Wampler makes such great pedals, Burgs. Great review. And yet again, you've convinced me to add ANOTHER distortion pedal to my absurdly large collection. If my wife finally kills me, this might be the pedal that pushes her over the edge...
Great demo Brett. Love the little AC/DC Tribute at 3:14 The Bass boost gives it a bit of WAMP, LOL I like that one. Like Wampler ;-) That's my funny for the day. Your going to have to add on to the house if you get any more gear or run Sadie out of her room when she goes off to college. LOL I still can't believe how much gear my buddy The ToneKing has. :-) Have a good one.
I got this after watching your video. If you only have to take one drive to your gig, this is it! I actually prefer the pre gain to my tube screamer! There doesn't seam to be that clean blend thing! Great demo, great pedal!
Excellent demo, pedal sounds great with the SG, pre and post both sound great individually, even better together. Even on laptop speakers you could hear the bass thump when kicked in. You really brought out the best of the pedal. great job.
No doubt a great sounding and widely versatile pedal, but I have to say that my favourite tone was when you hit the crunch channel of your Laney at 5:08. I was thinking about buying the pedal but now I'm thinking about buying a Laney! haha
Thanks for putting out everything you used to test it out. I wish everyone stated what they used when testing products. I went out and got the pedal. Everything I wished for.
My God, such a huge, fat, organic and raw british tone! Amazing! I've been looking for one of these for a long time! Thank you, Wampler, for the brand new Plexi-Drive Deluxe! Awesome!
You just sold me on another one Burgs. Great demo, your recordings are always outstanding sound quality. If you're bored sometime, would love to hear this thing with a Strat, but might have my own soon anyway. CHEERS!
Finally a plexi drive review i can relate to.. Cheers! I made the mistake of buying both the PD and the original circuit pinnacle.. Im always going back n forth! Addictive pedals.. So great for low volume practice and my stage tone in ,y pocket in a pinch.. I run em left and right.. Huge..
I'm always intrigued by those strange people who leave dis-likes for a brilliant video without justifying their opinion. Do you not like Brett's shirt? Perhaps you object to Ikea wall shelving? Or maybe, just maybe you're in that double digit group of the population who don't like AC-DC.
This pedal is like 60 years of Marshall stuffed in a little box. It’ll do the Bluesbreaker combo, Plexi, up to JCM 900 face melting. My favorite overdrive box of joy.
So based on your videos, I have the Marvel Drive, Hot-Rod Plexi.......... I also use a Sl Drive and a Simble Drive but this one seems more versatile and sounds more convincing to me. Would love to hear this with a P90 guitar, strat and tele. Never enough OD pedals......... will buy this. Still looking for the holy grail compressor though....suggestions?
They're both really amp-like but the Wampler PDD can cut through the mix in a band setting. I've talked to lots of guys who thought they found a "better" Plexi pedal than the Wampler, including the Marvel Drive, only to discover that they all got lost in a band mix. The Wampler has a 3 band active EQ so you can tailor it, and boost the mids. Otherwise, with another pedal, you'll likely need a separate EQ pedal to "fix" them. One mistake some guys make with the Wampler, which is why they think it's inferior, is they don't understand how the controls work. The EQ section is active, meaning that the 12:00 position is 0, with counter-clockwise cutting freq and clockwise boosting freq (in other words, the knobs at min is not 0 like some might think). To answer your question, I chose the Wampler.
Well done, for Wampler and Brett as well. Nice demo, really nice pedal. But what about running it at 18v? As other designs the idea is to enhance the performance when it's driven another signal? to enhance the performance internally in the pre/post gain relationship?
You know this pedal has good organic tones. I personally own a gt 100 that I run through a marshall dsl100hr, sounds pretty damn good. My point is this : I can program multiple tones at the touch of a foot, you know more than " 2 ". I always wondered why they don't start making analog pedals in a similar way ?
Hey man.!!Nice demos..Can you demo this pedal with kinman pickups.??If not can you tell me, if you try out and what is your opinion?.Am using kinman scoop..Thank you.!!
I'm lookin ta git a plexi pedal for the board, for both classic rock tones and the Van Halen sound, and I'm pretty much set on a Wampler. Which would you (and chat) recommend: the Plexi Deluxe, Pinnacle 2, or something else? So far, the plexi deluxe sounds awesome, and it looks cool to boot. Everyone knows that tone is in the style anyway. ;)
Love the channel !! You cover alot of different set ups and styles of playing which is great. I'd love to see you also cover all these pedals going into a recording interface and how they interact directly with various amplifier sims and different IR's.
Had the Marvel drive and its output was low, even with a buffer before it. It could get fizzy too if overdone No idea why. Plexi Drive sound much more versatile.
No ROLA JTM45 action? Laney sounded very good though. Glad I didn't buy the original plexi pedal, always wanted it but now this one is truly awesome. BTW, what do you think of the kt66 tubes vs el64 or 6l6s?
Hi, Burgs. Great demo as usual, but another small demo even with a Strat, would be particularly appreciated. ;-) Is this already been in your programs? Thanks a lot.
Hey Brett does the Plexi Drive Deluxe really sound as good as it does in your video. Sounds killer. I almost want to order one immediately. I hope Wampler is paying you big bucks because I am buying one, LOL!
If using this pedal, is it the best to set the eq in the amp all at 12 o clock, then tweak with the pedal eq? Or by setting them equally (amp and pedal) so when I turn the pedal off the clean sound remains the same eq?
I have both the WPD and Jetter Gold and both are awesome and different. WPD is more transparent and open in my opinion. The Jetter is more focused and compressed and has more lower mids . They both claim Plexi JTM 45 but I think the WPD comes way closer, especially, in it's touch sensitiveness. Jimmi H. all day long! The Jetter I think is more versatile in the area of covering more ground/genera.
Leroy Winn What about the Jetter Red2? That has a Plexi/Dumble side (toggle switch) and Helium boost. I loved the Helium but didn't like my Gold Shift, which is the higher gain, slightly differently voiced version. Red2 looks and sounds pretty good, and is $150 cheaper.
Don't own either & don't know much about the tech 21, but the wampler looks like it has way more EQ'ing options. The tech 21 just has controls for level, tone, drive & punch, so there's no bass, mid, or treble controls like the wampler. Could be a good pedal idk but the wampler's prob better for refining your tone
Problem I had with this pedal is an unpredictable boost tone. Sometimes the boost would be tonaly correct and be somewhat close to matching the sound created by the tone control settings and other times the boost would be muddy, dark and unusable. After changing tone dials I could not just click on the boost and go with it, so it became a problem. I have an Eathquake Palisades overdrive with a boost and no matter the settings, the Palisades always boosts with the same tone and does not alter the tone or muddy it up in anyway. I feel one is better off getting a the Plexi Drive and not the Deluxe and just stack another pedal in front for a boost. Also the boost by itself is just okay, not that big of a deal. I use a Plexi Crunch made by NUX and a inexpensive tube screamer and get a quick predictable plexi with a boost (tube screamer) that always right.
Bought one of these to use at low volumes but sounds nothing like your pedal, just chalk and cheese. Using a custom shop sg via a Jvm . Very disappointed, could there be something wrong with the pedal?
I've traded my Tech 21 Hot Rod Plexi for the Wampler PPDeluxe, but I did not like the Wampler at all and regret selling my Tech 21. I'm about to get an old THUMP version of it to see the difference since I had the PUNCH version. I'm also considering the Tech 21 British and love to try the Fly Rig to see if it sounds like the HRPlexi. But man Wampler was a let down for sure, what a dissapointment! I don't know if it sounded like that, or maybe someone did something wrong to it, but it sounded awfull, too much Low and Mid freqs. even cutting all with the EQ it was too much! I've read on the manual that it has some gold pots that you cannot mess with and maybe someone did cause it SUCKED! Tried with LP humbuckers and P90 and had the same problem, it did not soun anything like this or any other videos/mp3 files. I also had the Joyo (Harley Benton) British, and the Friedman BE OD pedal but they also suck! The BE OD is a metal zone, nothing plexi there and the Joyo sounded too cheap! My wish list includes Lovepedal Purple Plexi, Bogner La Grange and the Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret MKIII but so far the Tech 21 is the best one I had!
The search is over. Wampler is the best from the west
Can always trust Wampler to knock it out of the park, and this is no exception!
Wampler is great. Their pedals always sound like the sound in my head.
Man, looking at your face during the tweaking of the knobs is almost as fun as listening you play! Pure joy! Sold the pedal for me... Keep up the great demos Burgs. Greetz from the "Beer-country" Belgium!!!
Beautiful sounding SG
Pedals are sounding amazing these days.
This is the boost/overdrive/distortion pedal I have been wanting - so versatile - it is on my 'to get' list!
As awesome as it sounds in this demo - and it does sound awesome! - it doesn't even do it justice. Just got the pedal today and... OH MY!!! It is beyond awesome!
You have done the best demo of this pedal that I have seen. even better than Wampler himself.. 👏👏👏👏
Brett is one of the few I will sit through ads to see. Excellent content Brett!
A bit special.
Thanks for helping me decide what my woman's gonna get for her birthday!
Oh my goodness. I gotta get one of these. Fantastic sound & playmanship as always Burgs. Bravo!!
Everytime you play, a great EVH sounds comes out. What the f***k!!! You are a magician!
With all these amp-in-a-box pedals out there, I'm surprised pedal companies don't just slap a 100W solid state power amp onto their pedals and make a rack unit out of it.
Best review I've seen of this new Wampler Plexi-Drive. Sounds so good!
Nice one matey.
This is such a great demo Brett
your Laney's crunch channel sounds pretty good
Wampler makes such great pedals, Burgs. Great review. And yet again, you've convinced me to add ANOTHER distortion pedal to my absurdly large collection. If my wife finally kills me, this might be the pedal that pushes her over the edge...
Wampler pedals are among the best on the market. Hands down. The guy is a genius.
That thing sounds great man!
I am sooooo broke. I might as well set up a direct deposit to Wampler.
Excellent demo, pedal sounds great with the SG, pre and post both sound great individually, even better together. Even on laptop speakers you could hear the bass thump when kicked in. You really brought out the best of the pedal. great job.
great demo, mate!! nice chops took.im getting this baby today !
No doubt a great sounding and widely versatile pedal, but I have to say that my favourite tone was when you hit the crunch channel of your Laney at 5:08. I was thinking about buying the pedal but now I'm thinking about buying a Laney! haha
Thanks, Brett. Great demo.
Thanks for putting out everything you used to test it out. I wish everyone stated what they used when testing products. I went out and got the pedal. Everything I wished for.
I'm very glad I could be of help and happier still that my representation was reasonably accurate for you. Thanks for the kind words. Rock on!
I like your wink of approval Brett.
Another great video Brett
I need this pedal NOW! :) Sounds amazing.
My God, such a huge, fat, organic and raw british tone! Amazing! I've been looking for one of these for a long time! Thank you, Wampler, for the brand new Plexi-Drive Deluxe! Awesome!

That thing just sounds brilliant
Love your videos Brett...Great playing as always and great pedal also...Thx for the video.
Thank you Sir. Great informative demo. Regards from Devon, UK. :-) :-)
A bit of thump, a bit of whump a bit of Whoomp, a bit of 4x12 action. At 4:30...really funny.
I'm always intrigued by those strange people who leave dis-likes for a brilliant video without justifying their opinion. Do you not like Brett's shirt? Perhaps you object to Ikea wall shelving? Or maybe, just maybe you're in that double digit group of the population who don't like AC-DC.
Sounds great, I've been using the Friedman BE-OD for a couple of years and it's fantastic, but I may give this a try.
This pedal is like 60 years of Marshall stuffed in a little box. It’ll do the Bluesbreaker combo, Plexi, up to JCM 900 face melting. My favorite overdrive box of joy.
This pedal rocks!
Brett, in all honesty, how close does this truly come to sounding/feeling like a real plexi in person?
So based on your videos, I have the Marvel Drive, Hot-Rod Plexi.......... I also use a Sl Drive and a Simble Drive but this one seems more versatile and sounds more convincing to me. Would love to hear this with a P90 guitar, strat and tele. Never enough OD pedals......... will buy this. Still looking for the holy grail compressor though....suggestions?
I'd love to hear a back to back comparision with the SLO-stortion. Both sound fantastic.
If you had to choose between the Ramble FX Marvel Drive and the Plexi-Drive Deluxe, which would you pick?
They're both really amp-like but the Wampler PDD can cut through the mix in a band setting. I've talked to lots of guys who thought they found a "better" Plexi pedal than the Wampler, including the Marvel Drive, only to discover that they all got lost in a band mix. Almo Yes, you can run it at 18v, just make sure the polarity is correct
***** So, do we get more headroom running it at 18v?
heliobluesrock Yes, it'll have more headroom
Shannon Adkins you just need to use an approved 18v power supply, such as the voodoo labs and the like
Great review! How does this compare to the Ramble Marvel Drive?
I know it's a couple of years on, but this pedal seems to be the ducks guts! 😀👍
Your neighbors must love you. haha! I know mine love me.....
wampler himself told me that the post gain side of the plexi drive isn't a clarksdale od circuit but they overlap sonically
So if I already have a tube screamer do I need the deluxe
Can the wampler PDD get jimmy page tones?
Hey man.!!Nice demos..Can you demo this pedal with kinman pickups.??If not can you tell me, if you try out and what is your opinion?.Am using kinman scoop..Thank you.!!
Sounds good...gadz there are so so many plexi voiced pedals now...which one?? lol
I'm lookin ta git a plexi pedal for the board, for both classic rock tones and the Van Halen sound, and I'm pretty much set on a Wampler. Wich one is better, this Wampler or the Tech 21 Hot Rod Plexi? Thanks
Man that Laney amp sounds great . What model is it?
would be very nice to have midi control for foot controllers so you could use pre post in a preset.
is this still your favorite distortion/OD pedal ?
great great video man. thanks
Why you need the pedal with thAt Marshall stack back there?
***** Wampler Plexi Drive Deluxe or the Tech 21 Hot Rod Plexi? Which do you think is more worth the money?
Very nice. 👍🏻
Love the channel !! You cover alot of different set ups and styles of playing which is great. I'd love to see you also cover all these pedals going into a recording interface and how they interact directly with various amplifier sims and different IR's.
Plexi Drive Deluxe or Marvel Drive Burgs?

No ROLA JTM45 action?
Laney sounded very good though.
Glad I didn't buy the original plexi pedal, always wanted it but now this one is truly awesome.
BTW, what do you think of the kt66 tubes vs el64 or 6l6s?
they are all relatively similar with very slight almost discernible differences.
Hi, Burgs. Great demo as usual, but another small demo even with a Strat, would be particularly appreciated. ;-)
Is this already been in your programs? Thanks a lot.
This is perfect.
***** would you rather choose this or amptweaker big rock pro as more amp like? which one is your favorite of the two?
Jimmi Page's face detected at 2:42 min
Hey Brett does the Plexi Drive Deluxe really sound as good as it does in your video. Sounds killer. I almost want to order one immediately. I hope Wampler is paying you big bucks because I am buying one, LOL!
From my experience he has the best sound on UA-cam for demos.
If using this pedal, is it the best to set the eq in the amp all at 12 o clock, then tweak with the pedal eq? Or by setting them equally (amp and pedal) so when I turn the pedal off the clean sound remains the same eq?
Hi Brett, nice video, nice pedal. What do you think: Wampler Plexi Drive Deluxe vs. Jetter Gold 45/100?

Leroy Barncord Thanks very much, Leroy. Your comment is very helpful for me. I think, I'll focus on the WPD.
6:36 ..... got damn you already sold it to me a minute in man
Why do you have all the pedals I want?
How does this compare to the Tech 21 Hot Rod Plexi?
I wanna know that too! Which one is better, this Wampler or the Tech 21 Hot Rod Plexi

It's so Smoove.
my next pedal….sound amazing
could it work as well with cheap marshall valvestate amp ?
Great review!
Im curious, can i get paul gilbert shred tone with this pedal?
nay in my opinion! it's way more gentle :)... i'd recommend the pinnacle or somenthing more 'brown'
hello Brett, if you have to choose between this pedal (Wampler PDD) or Weehbo JVM Drive, which would be better for metal and bluesy marshall tones?
Id think JVM better for Metal, Wampler for blues... obviously no?
Hello Mr Brett, is this pedal good when boosted with a tubescreamer/OD pedal to get a good metal tone?
Problem I had with this pedal is an unpredictable boost tone. Sometimes the boost would be tonaly correct and be somewhat close to matching the sound created by the tone control settings and other times the boost would be muddy, dark and unusable. After changing tone dials I could not just click on the boost and go with it, so it became a problem. My favorite drive too
That Waves L3-16 is nice huh
Hello! Just a question. Is the volume boost with the pre-gain channel enough to use it as a solo boost?
Hey Brett have u tried the jhs sweet tea v3? How do they compare?
Is the v1 or v1 and how would you tell
do you use 9v o 18v?????
Pre-gain? What you mean?
How poerful is the mids dial Brett? Can i go slightly scooped?
Danthehorse It's an active eq circuit, so it'll scoop or boost by about 18 db. Placed at noon is neutral.
Just like a Marshall. Little bit of treble goes a hell of a long way. LOL
This or the tech 21?
Bought one of these to use at low volumes but sounds nothing like your pedal, just chalk and cheese.
Using a custom shop sg via a Jvm . Very disappointed, could there be something wrong with the pedal?
ya, the low volume
I want to hear it with a fender twin ,anybody do that yet?
I've traded my Tech 21 Hot Rod Plexi for the Wampler PPDeluxe, but I did not like the Wampler at all and regret selling my Tech 21. Damn that's a sexy sound
Fuck. I need one. Now.
I much preferred the Marvel Drive
