    I decided not to buy a Plexi Drive Mini...I bought two instead! The one and only time I’ve EVER bought two of the same. Something comforting knowing I’ve got a spare...just in case! This is without doubt the most convincing ‘Marshall in box’ pedal I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing through. BUY THIS PEDAL!

    So, I had the hardest time finding the right low-gain pedal to accompany my mini Plexi-drive.
    Alas, after many futile attempts and disappointing purchases, the answer was right in front of me, the whole time:
    A 2nd mini Plexi-drive set to low gain..
    Thanks, Brian, for making such a wonderful pedal!😉👍🤙

My leader recommended this pedal and now I just need one switch to change from low gain overdrive to Rock/Metal distortion. @wampler pedals - thinking about swapping out my Blues driver (phat modded) for this. There seems to be not enough transistor based overdrive options in this realm (but what do I know?) I know there are a couple blues driver clones but I would love something in a small foot print that isn’t moer. Something about the touch sensitivity- I’ve tried so many other drives and the original blues driver circuit, while not perfect, makes me perform way better. My dream is for either a mini take on a blues driver that really ups the game or a vertical blues driver with an added transistor boost. For now I’m looking into the plexi mini- gonna run that at low gain 18 volts.

    debating between this or a Carl Martin plexitone or Keeley El Rey something something. anyone been able to test it against the plexi drive deluxe? i like the small footprint of this but i also like the idea of the deluxe having a tube screamer added kind of sound

    • @kevinjohnbetts
      @kevinjohnbetts 4 роки тому +1

      Not that I've tested them but do you mean the old mains powered Plexitone, the later battery powered one or the newest one with the Rangemaster boost switch on it? I've heard demos of them all but the new Plexitone sounded incredible. A bit 'old school' for some I suppose though.

    • @kevinjohnbetts
      @kevinjohnbetts 4 роки тому +1

      On the topic of the Keeley El Rey Dorado I've been chatting a bit with Robert about building another Univibe based workstation. He's covered two of the classic users with the Monterey (Hendrix) and the Dark Side (Gilmour) but the Univibe plus El Rey Dorado would give him the triumvirate by giving us the Trower sound in a box. I can live in hope can't I. Still, that's not helping you is it. My opinion is that if space is an issue then the Wampler Mini is your pedal of choice. If you want the modern(-ish) classic rock sound then the Plexidrive Deluxe is the one but if you're more into the late 60s/early 70s tone then the new Carl Martin Plexitone seems to recreate that sound perfectly.

    • @kevinjohnbetts
      @kevinjohnbetts 4 роки тому +1

      @@EricBourassa I think the new version is perfect if you're running the Plexi side with stacks (pun intended) of gain. If you're just looking to add a little Plexi colour to your tone then the small gold one should be adequate. When I owned a Victory V40 I used a Xotic SL-Drive for classic rock tone and then drove it with JRAD Archer. For a dep gig I played 'Sweet Child Of Mine' with that rig and got pretty close to the 'Slash' tone. I did also drive it with a tubescreamer clone and got some great sounds. Lately I've been messing around with heavily overdriven tones on my Victory RD-1 and a Rangemaster (actually a Catalinbread Naga Viper) is delivering the goods. Whatever you choose should sound good but the way you want to use it will dictate which one that is. 🙂

    It does not sound exactly like my JMP 50 amp build, but it definitely sounds closer to a Marshall that the Fender amp did to begin with (I think it would sound even closer with the amp running into Celestion speakers in a Marshall style 4x12 or 2x12 open cab). I am trying to think of a way my nephew can get his Twin Reverb to sound more like classic Marshall crunch that he needs for playing some stuff. He is at uni right now, so can't afford amps, but can afford pedals. I am not sure what would work with a Twin, if anything, because those amps are not exactly a neutral clean pedal platform, i.e., scooped and round etc.

On a side note: will metal players get any love from wampler? The pathos/dracarys seem interesting but the market is flooded with excellent high gain preamp pedals at the moment (ksr ceres especially). Extreme metal may not be your cup of tea but if you ever decide to make one: you must listen to catch 33 by Meshuggah!

      @@imantisocial3179 I agree his pedals are fantastic but i did not mean a boost or a distortion pedal. If anyone can condense Catch 33, Chaosphere or destroy erase improve into a pedal: it would be Brian Wampler! If I could have those tones at the press of a foot switch into an fx loop or directly into an interface: TAKE MY MONEY!!! I think you may have misread my comment; I meant give metal players some love not metal players don’t like wampler. Check out Pariah Vs Gear on YT: he covers all these amazing preamp pedals that can pull off extreme metal and his videos are outstanding and to the point. None of these acclaimed industry people like Brian, Paul Rivera, Mike Fortin, etc have anything like the KSR Ceres or Joyo Preamp house and I think they could give KSR some competition!

    Why Plextortion was discontinued ? It is a very very good pedal, I run mine on a fender twin amp and this thing makes my AMP hot as a JCM800.

      @@charlieboyd2453 I meant more along the lines of something as mid scooped as a Princeton Reverb. From what I understand the hot rod deluxe has a little more midrange and is not exactly your traditional blackface “surf” tone. I ended up picking up the pedal though and can confirm it’s works great with the Princeton.
