I think there are plenty of cases where being related has nothing to do with it. Housemates and children from a previous marriage whose parent is now in a non-marriage relationship come to mind, but I am sure there are many others. The only improvement I can think of would be to ask for renewed permission from the insured person after a short amount of time like every 6 months or so, and failure to provide it resulting in immediate termination of the policy. This would at least prevent people from forgetting that someone has a life insurance on them and would benefit from their death, which would be important to remind them of if the relations have become soured at that time. To prevent overreacting to a temporary beef, there could also be an option for the insured person to suspend the insurance, so it would not be valid until the suspension was lifted, but no new application would have to be set in motion after the issue got resolved. This would also provide law enforcement with valuable insight on how rocky the relationship between the insured and beneficiary was, as it would show up as several (or long periods) of suspension. Just brainstorming here, but I think the solution could best be more nuanced than a general ban, as it would probably lead to a lot of good people suffering due to a few rotten apples.

Gosh he seemed like such a sweet old man, reminds me of my own dad. He’s 80 and still runs a printing press, he won’t stop. I don’t know how people can do such a horrible thing, Verns poor family.
My grandfather always had the same mantra as him, “a family who goes to the dump together, stays together”. We grew up dairy farming, working everyday with our hands and at the pinnacle of it all was my grandfather. I spent years just wishing I could be a fraction of the man he was, watching, observing, just trying to model myself after him. After all this time, after almost 10 years of him being gone, I think I’ve finally realized what he meant. “A family that’s willing to get into the dirty mess with eachother, and still come out of it together, will stay together”. The three types of abuse/murder that I hate the most and breaks my heart are: elder, child and animal. To abuse and hurt or kill something that is helpless is beyond low. When you find out it is family/friend it makes it so much worse. May he Rest In Peace and his family find comfort.

Hey That Chapter! There's a super crazy case going on where I live on Prince Edward Island, Canada. I don't know all the details, but a boy named Jamie Sark was missing. After a while, his body was found. From what I hear, his cousin killed him, and he and another person moved the body to hide it. The killer will not name the accomplice, and the killer got 4 years in jail. Yeah. Four years. For murder and hiding the body. I'd love to hear you cover this!!
I really hate it when things like this happen. A kind, devoted, driven person has a dirtbag in the family who ends up responsible for the good person’s death.
Chandler Halderson, Joel Guy Jonior, Grant Amato, all had wonderful family that would do anything for them. If you're not scummy yourself you'll never understand it
It's crazy... I've been an addixt for more than half my life . Physically addicted to opiods and amphetamines since I was a teen. I have witnessed people do INSANE things to get high... the stories like this one make me want to get clean so badly , I have grown to hate drugs and hate addicts and how they act ...
Mike twice in a week? I’m in heaven! Thank you Mike, you’re literally the best!! I so needed this today my yt was getting a little boring. But here you come to save the day again!
Oh man, what a terrible story of betrayal. As always, you're the best storyteller on UA-cam, Mike. I look forward to the next one. And, as you say, until then, as always, take care of yourself, Mike, because I love you too!
That Chapter has the best true crime, murder mystery and unsolved videos. It's funny, not in a disrespectful way to victims and there loved ones. It helps make it not depressing to watch, sad but his light humor makes it's so much better to listen to.
Mike I just noticed you're getting into range for two million! I remember asking you what you were going to do for us to celebrate 100k... As I said below, you're so much more relaxed now. Your screen persona has developed, you've relaxed and you seem to enjoy it more. Your content, the crimes you cover and your research and writing mean I'd always choose to watch your vids, but now they make me laugh, too. It's weird but I definitely feel proud of you. It's almost as good as watching one of my sons' achieve something great...
I love that he says "I love ya!" I'm sure he never saw &/or it didn't influence him, but I encouraged him to keep telling us - some of us need to hear those words sometimes, even from a "stranger," though Mike seems like a real friend. 🥰 (PS: There's only one Mike!) 😄
Not going to lie, I have developed a massive crush on him over the past couple of years. Love seeing his style develop while he maintains his own sense of self.
omgomgomg I LOVE when people do true crime coverage of things that happen in MY HOME TOWN. This was a huge case and it hurt so many people in the Yakima Valley. Thank you for the respectful coverage of this.
I'm from yakima, I live in a suburb of yakima currently for 42 years now.Little known fact...Cowichie isn't desolate like described. It's actually known for all its Apple orchards. The pictures he showed were more on the extreme outskirts. Its a beautiful area. Hops are grown about 30 miles from cowichie to the south in an area called moxie. 70% of the world's hops are grown here. I remember when this happened and all the drama it stirred up. Very sad. Nice family. Also...the sunshine motel was torn down not long after this whole debacle happened..about 2 years.
@R Voit no. Apple orchards are very active with workers year round. He showed pictures of our beautiful sage brush desert and described the area as "desolate"...the pictures he showed was what it likes like going towards Handford nuclear facility.
I really love how Mike has grown with this channel been watching that chapter since the post Malone days lol n can see the difference Mike he seemed a bit more shy before he has always been good at telling these cases n adding a lil humor giving us a smile while hearing these heavy cases. Proud of u Mike
I remember this case. Real sad. He seemed like a great family man. It reminds me of the senseless murder of the other real estate female who was taken while showing a home and then buried where the young guy used to be employed.
We have an unsolved real estate murder case here in Victoria British Columbia 🇨🇦. In 2008, a young female agent Lindsey Buziac, was murdered by a white couple with thick eastern european accents. The woman wore a very distinct black white and red dress with a vertical wave design. It's years old now sadly. I hope it will be solved soon.
@@abelis644 2008 or thereabouts a lot of shit went down for people, regarding money and mortgages. Stupid money to be one or lost. I have to say I wasn’t sure about the new format, i.e. longer videos once a week, but it was a really good idea, I love that there’s time for more details this way. You are definitely my favourite channel on YT, wish you the very best Mike!
Poor Vern, being so brutally attacked and trying to hang on for life for his family he loved so much, no doubt. Such a shame the broads got off so lightly and that the men only got 30 years apiece, which they will certainly be out in half that time with good behavior. Anyhow, thanks for the story and have a good weekend.
When Dan is being interrogated by the police, he reminds me of the character William Macy played in the movie "Fargo". The way Dan is squirming is hilarious.
He seemed to be a good and kind man and his life was taken brutally like that. Hope he RIP and his family can learn how to live with this horrible trauma.
Thanks Mike for covering this! This was our house in Cowiche that this incident happened in. I grew up here until high school, and shortly after moving to Moses Lake, this happened. Was so surreal to think someone had their thoat slit in my parents bedroom, where I spent so much time running around. Poor guy.
What a treat to have 2 videos in 1 week! Thanks, Mike! Jill, the former daughter-in-law, is a total piece of 🗑 for doing Vern like that. What a good man, continuing support to her even after a divorce from his son. I can't help but to connect that her children are his grandkids! I feel for everyone who experienced this senseless loss, especially her children. They're going to spend the rest of their lives knowing their Mom helped to murder their Grandpa...damn. So often the prosecution has to make deals with the devils and in this case these two horrendous women were devils! Too bad Vern couldn't have made some sort of a deathbed ID on this immigrant murderer!

Crazy to hear my city Yakima covered and actually pronouced correctly. Hopefully Mike finds enough to make a story about my cousin that was murdered in the 90s back when I sent the info. Great video as always Mike.
I think I saw this on Dateline awhile ago. I just remember being totally shocked that POS ex-daughter-in-law basically got away w/ her part. Sickening. I just don’t understand people.
How vile! Poor Vern and his family. The leaving him broke my heart. That life insurance would have me running to a barrister immediately getting that Holden guy under control. What a lot of oxygen thieves, I hope they all suffer miserably throughout the remainder of their miserable lives.
This is so sad. I would have loved to have a father in law like Vern, who obviously loved his family. Some just didn’t realize it. You just can’t trust family can you? They will f**k you harder than anyone you know, or hire someone to….😢 take care Mike! Great story again!!

This was the first time I have heard about this case. It was sad to hear that ex daughter in law was involved considering how he continued to look upon her as being family after she divorced from his son. That is shocking to me and so bloody senseless. I can't imagine how the remaining felt when finding this out.

I lived in Cowiche for a dozen years a decade ago when this event happened. Nice rural setting full of apple orchards tucked in the foothills of the Cascade mountains. One of the biggest apple orchardist and packer in the world originated from there. Nice place to raise kids and far enough away from Yakima to avoid long history of trouble. This story was an anomaly for the most part.
Man what a sad story. Dude seemed like an O.G Family Man, definitely didn't deserve to go out that way. And what a bad ass, not to make light, but the fact that he kept himself alive while laying on the floor for 8 hours and then to continue fighting in hospital. Hey Mike, love ya! Wish you can cover the story of Arthur Labinjo Hughes. This poor boy's story needs to be shared. It's the least we can do for him. No one protected him in his short short life..... we owe him
Arthur's tragic story is just so sad and horrible. That poor little boy, my heart breaks. I find the cases involving children so hard, especially when there was long term terrible suffering. Victoria Climbie, Tesslynn O'Cull, Maria Colwell, Daniel Pelka, Baby P, Arthur Labinjo Hughes, Gabriel Fernandez, Baby Brianna, the list is sadly so long, the facts of each case so hard to bear.
Another great video, Mike. I had never heard of this case before. How terribly sad that a person who devotes his life to helping others end up like this sweet old man.💔💔

What a thrill! Lunch with Mike TWICE this week--and neither time did the menu feature a knuckle sandwich, teeth salad, or shit for dessert (though the thought of the latter almost put me off my chocolate creme pie). You are hard on poor Cowiche. They have a proud high school and a landmark supermarket. And apples (not just hops). The Yakima Valley is the number one apple producing region in the who US of A. My travel philosophy: There's ALWAYS something there. Thanks, Mike. Luv ya.

It seems as if the vast majority of cases covered involve people motivated by greed. I personally can relate to the pain of being broke and destitute, and the demoralizing feeling of being incapable of supporting yourself in this most basic of ways. The temptation of quickly having a financial windfall could make you set aside your morals and standards…but there’s always a definite boundary you can’t cross.

@@Axolotl_Mischief would knowing them be worth 10 k then? that makes 0 sense.
if youre to kill anyone for such low amount, it would be a stranger... either way its fucked up to agree to killing someone for any sum.

Very happy to hear that!
@@ThatChapter Both days are better... Ha. but, " I hear you barking big dog." Good stuff, good sir.
The best part of all of Mike's videos is his sincere thank you at the end. Thanks for your work Mike.
It’s incredibly unfortunate for Vern’s that Taylor was pardoned for her part in this murder. I feel for Vern’s son and the grandchildren the most who have to continue dealing with this sort of human being. She’s not trustworthy at all. She will get the consequences of her actions in the hereafter!
The three types of abuse/murder that I hate the most and breaks my heart are: elder, child and animal. To abuse and hurt or kill something that is helpless is beyond low. When you find out it is family/friend it makes it so much worse. May he Rest In Peace and his family find comfort.
Don’t forget the disabled. Anytime a person abuses and takes advantage of someone/thing that can’t defend themselves well. Disgusting.
Weird I thought everybody loved old people killing the children of animals 😂
@@johnandrews9433 well hunans are animals, we are bi-pedal mammalian primates & thats called the food chain but its typically not the non-human animals "children". Balut & veal would be technically but no rational person gives a damn about vegans-illogical nonsense
Outside of the fact that we humans are also animals- kids have killed ppl, animals have killed ppl, the elderly have killed ppl & ⬆️ yep even the disabled have killed ppl. None is any worse than another- except maybe the non-human animals killing ppl because some of them dont kill the person before they start eating them
@@rachaeljones4731 Yeah, I was about to add that.
Poor Vern. What a cruel death. He would have been so scared and distressed.
Omg. The sentences in America are bad enough; the sentences in Canada are INSANE.
The sentences in the UK are way worse it's ridiculous here
He's covered it since
I really hate it when things like this happen.

Love how you weirdos are "proud" of random people you don't even know get a life

Good riddance to that drug addled property.
Apple
@R Voit no. Apple orchards are very active with workers year round.
He showed pictures of our beautiful sage brush desert and described the area as "desolate"...the pictures he showed was what it likes like going towards Handford nuclear facility.

Rest in peace Vern and condolences to his family and friends. He seemed like a genuine and lovely man. 🕊️
I remember this case. Real sad. He seemed like a great family man. It reminds me of the senseless murder of the other real estate female who was taken while showing a home and then buried where the young guy used to be employed.
I remember Billie Dean Hamilton case. That was sad. IIRC, her killer died in prison a few years back.
Was that the one with the suspect that was wearing a black and fuchsia striped dress?
@@4bibimimi yes
God dang broads.
Lol I love how he's like, " I don't have the money ( to hire a killer)," not..... I would NEVER hire someone to kill!"
Merry Christmas Mike! Thank you so much for the amazing content. Love your humor & style. Have a safe & happy New Year & great holiday 💗

Drug addiction=Bad choices y'all!
She’s a piece of waste basket?
So often the prosecution has to make deals with the devils and in this case these two horrendous women were devils! Too bad Vern couldn't have made some sort of a deathbed ID on this immigrant murderer!
Lived in the lower Yakima valley and Yakima. It is not the safest place. There are lots of positives as well. Gang related crimes are on the regular. Beautiful wine country and close to the mountains. A lot of good people too. As always your content is awesome. Thank you and please continue what you do! Love to Zillah, Toppenish and Granger!
Crazy to hear my city Yakima covered and actually pronouced correctly. Hopefully Mike finds enough to make a story about my cousin that was murdered in the 90s back when I sent the info.
Great video as always Mike.
Also, Cowiche pronounced perfectly! (That was my house he was murdered in)
I was surprised and impressed as well
To see her hugging Vern in that video at the end , is really messed up to think she was faking her love for him all these years
I think I saw this on Dateline awhile ago. I just remember being totally shocked that POS ex-daughter-in-law basically got away w/ her part. Sickening. I just don’t understand people.
She did get away but I truly hope her kids got taken from her and grow up to kno the type of person she is
Can you imagine being the ex husband? It must be even more surreal.
She has a V. The legal system are kind to this gender. It's a complete mess.
It's because it's the Pacific Northwest. Very liberal. They don't believe in jailing the guilty. They coddle them. I know, I live there.

Mike, I have longed for these more detailed cases from you. I adore your incredible abilities and you are truly appreciated. ❤
How vile! Poor Vern and his family. The leaving him broke my heart. That life insurance would have me running to a barrister immediately getting that Holden guy under control. I’m still so sad about this man suffered! My da is 78 and in the back of my mind throughout listening.

@R Voit congrats dude, you clearly understood what I meant. There’s really 0 need for you to comment that. This was the first time I have heard about this case.
