This is so sad. The fact that the police were watching them when she was killed is just egregious. They would've easily found the blood with a search warrant. Just depressing.
I gotta agree. Why on earth did they wait so long to execute a search warrant or question them, knowing that there had been domestic violence before? It seems insane to just watch and wait when it's pretty clear there's a possibility that Heather was in a bad position with a known violent man!
I think because from their point of view she looked like she had conspired with the ex bf to kill the current bf. They had no reason to think she was in danger and every reason to think she was a co-conspirator. Everything always looks really obvious after the facts are revealed but in the moment they usually aren’t. Im just sorry she didn’t think she could ask her nail tech to call the police and get her sons to safety. She must have known he was gonna kill her
@nada Gabri He was wanted for abuse, had a warrant, and had previously been reported by her for abuse. She would believe they would do anything why exactly? This is amazingly ignorant.

Yea like they knew he gonna kill her, do you really think that police can see in the future? Ofc they gonna try get more hard evidence before arresting.. Ridiculous to say police had culpability in the murder... But hey, you american, yall have smaller brain so i let that slide for now
No offence but how were they supposed to know that Hester wasn't involved in the murder? As the lawyer said, Hester used to roam freely for the entire week after the murder, and even got her nails done. This simply means that she deliberately didn't complain about Kevin, even when he had no hostages. She got what was coming to her unfortunately.
@@p2kCrime They had arrests warrants for both of them. While detained, Heather very well have told them what happened, knowing Kevin was also detained. She might have gotten some time, but at least she would have been alive. (Only saying she might have gotten some time because she didn’t come forward earlier. Since she was a victim she may not have.)
One of my best friends played bass in their band "the movers and shakers". Really hit him hard Scott seemed to be loved by a lot of people and seemed super genuine and happy with life. Sad story man ..
His lawyer said, "I wish you could get to know Kevin." I feel like if she had gotten to know him up close and personal years ago, she would be the reason Kevin is sentenced to natural life.
i don't know what the professional standards for lawyers are in the states but there is no way a lawyer here in new zealand would make a comment like that, weep and stroke her client during sentencing.
Two things that others have mentioned, that are sickening: 1: They actually let him drive away with Heather, to KILL her. 😠 2: The attorney crying at the verdict. 🙄
YESSS! I CAN FEEL HER DREAD AND FEAR RIGHT THROUGH THE SCREEN ! SHE WAS IN DIRE EXTREME DEADLY JEIPARDY and had a chance of RESCUE. BUT THEY JUST SAT THERE! W!! T!!! F!!!!!!🥵😡🤬💀☠️😭😭😭😭😱😨🥶😤😭
I'm so sorry. What an awful story. Looking at how he was killed, ambushed from behind it seems, absolutely made me feel sick - what a cowardly thing for that weird looking prick to do. Absolutely not fair.
Some criminals, especially the sociopaths, are very very charming. I would think most attorneys would be wise to that, on the lookout for it, and careful to check their emotions toward any client, but perhaps this one got through those with this attorney.
I find it interesting that he asked her to marry him... knowing that in most states, a spouse can't be forced to testify against you. She said no. That made her a danger.
It's not a thing anymore, spouses most definitely can be made to testify against each other when necessary but no doubt when she said no to the marriage he would have realised he then had to kill her because she was a witness and was surely going to tell the police when she got the chance. He must have thought he could win her round by........ Murdering her new boyfriend in cold blood and forcing her to spend the following week with him, so romantic...... For a maniac!
It wouldn't have mattered either way. It would only protect during the time you're married. You don't have that privilege to not testify against them about something that happens pre-dating the marriage, which the murder would have. It also only covers what is said between the two. It would not work for actions. If he told her that he killed Scott, that would be protected and she wouldn't have to testify. If she witnessed him doing so, she would have to testify about it no matter what.
She had a pretty strong case of getting the marriage annulled, what with being held at gun point before, during and after the proposal, so not the greatest plan, lol. Also, I think the spouse has a right not to testify, but they still can, so that doesn't silence her at all.
This cretin I would like a psychological expose of. What kind of throwback rock did he grow up under? Why are there still men that think they can control a woman?

My favorite part of the judge reading his sentencing is that he said "life in prison, but we're going to award you 883 days towards that sentence." Jeez, that was funnier than it should've been.
@@thabsilechamane3774 It's referring to "time served," which is when the time you've spent in jail during the legal process counts towards your prison sentence. I'm having trouble understanding why the cops had warrants for them, but decided to tail them instead of arresting him. They didn't even tail them and now this woman is dead. The police have some complicity in her death.
Was his lawyer "invested" in him? Odd way she looked at him and the way she spoke of wishing they "knew" him the ways she/they did was not normal. She looked pained at the verdict, more than just an "Oh, poop, I lost" kind of look.
He probably used the fame manipulation tactics as he did with Heather. He even tried to draw some pity from the detective interviewing him with the whole rejected proposal b.s.
This is ridiculous. Those cops got her killed. How do you not just knock on the door and ask both of them to come answer questions. You dont think she wouldve rolled on him right there? Plus they had warrants already. Terrible.
Yeah, but I think, just in case Heather, who was going about her regular business as usual after Scott's murder, wasn't in on the murder too (and wouldn't roll on the murderer)...and I think they were being followed to see where they hid the murder weapon and/or who they interacted with just after the murder of Scott...who else could have been involved. As Mike said, they barely had enough circumstantial evidence on him at the time, and wanted to get more...but you're right...would have been better if LE went in earlier. I don't know how they would have known Heather was in danger bc she acted normally and did her normal stuff, without alert the police...which she could have done indirectly. Like her co-workers said, she acted alittle nervous but not very, apparently. I was pretty impressed LE found the murderer and Heather in the 1st place, to be honest. Yeah, it's too bad LE didn't go in earlier, but I think they were getting more evidence and didn't know Heather was in danger at the time.
And had they done that and not found anything? This would've just happened later. You expect cops to be predictors of crime, yet the own victim didn't even try to save herself when she had plenty of time too. Can't blame them for not knowing what even the person in the relationship refused to acknowledge. That's what's ridiculous.
Battered women typically don't talk to the police, or leave the abusive situation. Even when they do call the police, they often refuse to press charges or testify. Don't blame the cops.
Holy shit, 3 bootlickers in a row replied to your comment. Bootlickers: you are WRONG. The police had PROOF that Scott's death had occurred in Heather's house, and did not bring her in for questioning or get a search warrant for her house. They had PROOF that Kevin was involved, and did not arrest him or even bring him in for questioning. They had FUCKING ARREST WARRANTS IN HAND as they watched Kevin and Heather drive away. The police refused to do their jobs at EVERY step, because they wanted to live out their high-school-failure dreams of being spies. They are 100% responsible for Heather's death, period. Let's hope none of you bootlickers ever lose a loved one because of police negligence like this. Will you still be defending the cops and blaming the victims in that case? Pathetic.
The fact he was last traced to her apartment should have been enough for a search warrant. The police literally have video of Heather marching to her death. So incredibly infuriating!

Yeah, everyone's acting like it makes her a horrible person, it's more likely that he was a very sad, pathetic, and manipulative man, and how long has that girl been out of law school? A year? She looks, and sounds, SO young. Probably naive, idealistic, gullible, hadn't met a hardcore criminal yet, and he persuaded her to believe him and pity him.
Yet...I'm amazed that she didn't try to save herself either...unless he drove her to everything she went to and drove her back. Even then, she could at the least passed a note to a co-worker or to the nail person that she was in danger and to call the police...told them everything, how he had killed Scott and where the body was...but she didn't. I'm sure she was terrified and had 3 sons to protect, but it also would have been beneficial if she alerted the police, even indirectly, herself. I don't know how the police would know that Heather wasn't just in on the murder of Scott (helped out the killer) as she appeared to go about her business as usual afterwards?
@@bettywith2girls Exactly. Its pretty hard to believe an innocent person goes through their normal routines while living at a murder scene for a week. Its also pretty hard to believe a person scared for their sons lives would go out to dinner with them, act perfectly normal, and still refuse to notify the police. If you are scared for you, and your sons life, sitting face to face to one of them but then proceed to leave to go back home to a muderer..?? It makes no sense.
She didn't even bother to save herself, yet you expect them to be what, predictors of crime? Easy to blame a job you never have to do. It's easy to criticize something we now have knowledge of afterwards. Yet they didn't at the time. It doesn't matter if he had abused her before. She didn't act like she was scared. They can't just go in for no reason and bust her out. Then the times the cops do try to help. They are demonized still by women and family who refuse to press charges and put them away. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
A delusional, evil man takes the lives of two innocent people. The police watch them for days, with an arrest warrant in hand and yet they don't. I can't understand what they thought they would learn by tracking them instead of arresting them. So damned sad.
I think LE was tailing them, the killer and Heather (bc they didn't know she wasn't involved in the killing of Scott at her house), to get more evidence. See if they would lead LE to the murder weapon or anyone else involved...I don't think they knew Heather was scared or in danger bc she was acting "normally", apparently,
More info. An arrest warrant isn't a guaranteed stay in jail card. He could've just killed her when they got out if they didnt have enough evidence. She looked complicit, didn't even bother to save herself. Yet you expect the Leo's too. Amazing.
You'd also blame the police if they acted too quickly. He might have bailed out and fled or done even more harm. He might have gone to trial and been judged innocent for lack of evidence. PS, it is not illegal to be delusional or evil. These are judgement calls, and not valid reasons for arresting or convicting someone. If they were, we'd all be in jail, as others with different moral views would quickly place charges. Cancel culture, anyone?
I watched most of the trial and it was often confusing. The two blonde defense lawyers were totally incompetent. Thanks for filling in some of the blanks; now I understand more clearly what happened.
Would just like to say something for the people who are confused by Heather's behaviour. Some victims come to feel that they can prevent and control their abuser's violence by obeying, because they believe that the violence is caused by them - "This never would have happened if I had done what he wanted. This is my fault." Heather probably just fell back into a survival mode of doing anything to keep Kevin from getting angry, believing that if she tried to leave like she did before, it would just result in Kevin killing someone else.
So what you're telling me is that this abusive man who just murdered her boyfriend in front of her, he was the one that suggested his "girlfriend" go get her nails done? And this woman who was so cowed into compliance and going along with her captor told him to piss off when he asked her to marry him again? I'm not saying these things are impossible, but they really don't track with the story being presented here in my opinion. There is something off about their behaviour that does not jive with the idea that she was a helpless victim start to finish. It feels more likely to me that they were in on it together but there was a huge blowup at some point and he got rid of her as well, after the fact. It wouldn't be the first time that has happened either.
@@Person01234 i agree, it's really fishy. but i also don't want to completely dismiss the idea that she was so manipulated/traumatized/etc that she really thought everything would be ok if she just went about business as usual. the human brain has done stranger things. but again, it's very off

@ConfusedOilPainter I believe he stayed in house with her children whilst she ran errands as a form of control of her, he probably even threatened to harm them as well.
@@avaforshort681 Doesn't Mike say in the video that after Scott was killed she went out to dinner with her son and his girlfriend? If so, then that coupled with the fact that her son claimed that she seemed "normal" after Scott died/before she was killed indicates that her kids had no clue what was going on, may have been old enough to defend themselves better than if they were still literal children, and were likely living elsewhere. There's something really off about all this and I'm not sure that I fully buy the whole "she was forced/her kids were threatened" story, especially when considering that she went about her daily routine as if nothing had ever happened.

I stumbled upon Mike and That Chapter late one night and I can't miss an episode now. I also always say "Tirty-Tree" at random points in my day. Thank you Mike.
The police seriously messed up here. They carried on watching Heather and Kevin and Heather died as a result of their inaction. Let's face it the possible scenarios when the police were watching them were, either Kevin, jealous ex had lured the new man over to the house and killed him and Heather was an unwilling participant in the crime meaning she was now in danger herself or the two of them were working together to kill the new boyfriend but there is absolutely no motive for Heather in that scenario whatsoever so it should have been obvious that scenario number two was extremely unlikely and it was more likely Heather wasn't part of the murder and therefore very likely in danger from her unhinged ex as she was a valuable witness. The cops should have seen this it's so obvious.
@@justmythoughts6313 I'm just struggling to see what benefits the police thought they could gain by monitoring the pair over time, they already knew that one or both were involved in the murder and the most likely scenario was that the ex was the killer and Heather was an unwilling participant. Whatever their thoughts they must have been aware that they were taking a significant risk with her life by continuing to allow them to carry on without bringing them in. I do understand its easy for me to say with the benefit of hindsight but nonetheless they must have been aware of the possible theories and the risk to further lives being lost by choosing their course of action.
Is that attorney serious right now? She wishes we could meet the Kevin that they knew? The same one with warrants for domestic assault? She needs to find a new career because she’s not very good at her job. Everyone knows it’s not the person you meet that you should worry about, it’s who they are behind closed doors.
Wow what an emotionally devoid guy. He looks like a Fraggle Rock character. He's got such a cold, empty stare. The lawyer crying is a bit weird too. Great video Mike!
Just because Heather did normal activities, doesn't mean she felt ok. Shed already tried to escape the guy brutalising her. By that point, I'm sure she was terrified, trapped & acting normal hoping she wouldnt be murdered. I wonder if he killed her just so she couldnt date while he was in prison..
I agree she was probably also afraid to go to police because either they wouldn't believe her , leave her unprotected, or even charge her with the murder. It's a terrifying position to be in especially if you're brainwashed and knowing you can't slip, make him mad, paranoid or any little thing to make him kill you too.
Yeah I'd be freaking terrified. Not only had she got away, but he came back. Found her new boyfriend and killed him? Surely from then on she'd be in survival mode.

Godddd I know how strong coercion from a violent spouse can be. I can’t imagine how terrifying it must have been for Heather that week. Goddddd I just wish she was able to lowkey call the cops. I wonder if she had any idea how bad it was going to get for her, or if she was working on a plan or if she thought he would eventually loosen the reins and then she would go for help. For all we know Kevin was always right outside her job, or when she went shopping or got her nails done or whatever. Maybe he always was watching or made her feel like he was always watching. Possibly he instructed her to do her normal routine as to not raise any suspicion. It’s just so frustrating that they had her under surveillance alive and they arrested him basically immediately after he murdered her.
He probably knew her kids and where they lived and worked. I’m sure he put them under threat as well if he felt she was trying to slip out of his grasp.
I understand that the police thought Heather was involved with Scott's murder but I truly wish they had arrested them both earlier. It seems like such a small easy thing to have done to avoid another senseless murder. Hind sight being 20/20 and all that.
I'm surprised Heather's family haven't charged the Greely police department with a wrongful death suit. Clearly if they had moved quicker with a search warrant for her place she'd still be alive and more questions answered. The old lady comment cracked me up. Mike always has a way of introducing some humour into these gruesome cases!!

Why abusive and controlling people can't understand why the person being abused doesn't want to be with you anymore is just beyond me.
The thing about that is they get off on that. They will ceaselessly change tactics to keep you around, how many times have we all heard " well, she just gets really mad, but she's ok. She just yells alot" or " yeah he hits me, but not hard, I made him mad" they smooth it over and the cycle repeats. Just a game for the fucks.
Sadly because sometimes the victim takes them back.
They understand. They just don't care.
They genuinely dont think they are doing anything wrong

No offence but how were they supposed to know that Hester wasn't involved in the murder? As the lawyer said, Hester used to roam freely for the entire week after the murder, and even got her nails done. This simply means that she deliberately didn't complain about Kevin, even when he had no hostages. She got what was coming to her unfortunately.
@@p2kCrime They had arrests warrants for both of them. While detained, Heather very well have told them what happened, knowing Kevin was also detained. She might have gotten some time, but at least she would have been alive.

You’re right about the lack of action on the part of the police. That police force should be ashamed to be such.
He sure pulled the wool over his attorney's eyes. It just shows that he is a very manipulative person.
No, I'm afraid that is no longer accurate. You never watched The Sopranos?

They do that, and I don't understand why.
What does that mean?
@@thabsilechamane3774 It's referring to "time served," which is when the time you've spent in jail during the legal process counts towards your prison sentence. So if someone commits a crime and gets sentenced to 5 years, but they spent a year and a half in jail for the whole trial, they only have 3.5 years to serve in prison.
@@thabsilechamane3774 it goes towards "time already served" while awaiting trial. If he'd gotten a 30 year sentence, it would have been 30 minus 2 plus years while he was held in jail awaited trial.
@@roxannemoser its stupid but the judge gave him his time in the county jail awaiting trial towards his sentence. In larger counties usually jail time is not day for day. One day in jail may account for 2 days or 3 for 1.
I'm having trouble understanding why the cops had warrants for them, but decided to tail them instead of arresting him. They didn't even tail them and now this woman is dead. The police have some complicity in her death.
Because at the time it looked like she was involved, they didn't know she was at risk.
Was his lawyer "invested" in him? Odd way she looked at him and the way she spoke of wishing they "knew" him the ways she/they did was not normal. She looked pained at the verdict, more than just an "Oh, poop, I lost" kind of look.
She wiped tears away.... For sure looked pretty unprofessional.

They were fucking,,,!
He probably used the fame manipulation tactics as he did with Heather. He even tried to draw some pity from the detective interviewing him with the whole rejected proposal b.s.
could be a relative.. small place.
People put way too much faith in the police. They aren't paid enough to care...and it shows! And IMO they *don't care!*

If you are scared for you, and your sons life, sitting face to face to one of them but then proceed to leave to go back home to a muderer..?? It makes no sense.
She could have reported him to the police by getting her sons with her first
She didn't even bother to save herself, yet you expect them to be what, predictors of crime? Easy to blame a job you never have to do. It's easy to criticize something we now have knowledge of afterwards. Yet they didn't at the time. It doesn't matter if he had abused her before. She didn't act like she was scared. They can't just go in for no reason and bust her out. Then the times the cops do try to help. They are demonized still by women and family who refuse to press charges and put them away. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
it's easy to have 20/20 hindsight but the cops didn't even have enough evidence to get a search warrant let alone charge anyone
Thanks!
Cancel culture, anyone?
pathetic policing her death is on them 100%
They wanted to play spy. Piece of shit bastards, like all cops.

The ONLY thing I love about my first day having to go back to work is knowing that when I get home I know that there will be a new ‘That Chapter’ video waiting for me at home. 🙌🏻
Have a great day at work!
Why wouldn’t they immediately arrest a murder suspect when they had arrest warrants?
Also, Eastman even charmed his own attorney.. wow.
That’s one of the hallmark character traits of a sociopath or a narcissist. This is one reason why they’re such dangerous people;
because they didn't know if she was a murder suspect as well. The stupidity of people is truly astounding.
Being from Colorado it's so strange when our cases are mentioned haha although sorta fun fact we do hold quite a few high profile prisoners in the southern part of the state
Love how the judge gives a life sentence with no parole but then give credit for time served.
Why on earth was his lawyer shedding a tear like his guilty verdict was a travesty of justice. Was she sad that we didn't get to know the real man behind the murders like his victims did! As if his rap sheet/record didn't tell us all what an abusive violent man he really was. Great vid Mike . Defence lawyers honestly!
Hey! Soon, if we lucky, will hear that his lawyer and him are married and sooooo muchhhh in loveeee 😂😂😂😂
Kevin's probably got a big one, that's why 🌭
She was throwin it back for him
I remember watching this trial, it was so difficult to watch when they tried to frame someone else for it!
It was absolutely horrible!!
It's the same defense strategy that anyone would have used, because it's a plausible option.
How much crazy bs did people get away with before cell phones
🤣🤣🤣
Mike has such great comedic timing. Gotta love him!
I find him annoying and disrespectful.

Yay! Today is my birthday and I am so happy and excited to get an episode from That Chapter!
We love you, Mike! Thank you for all you do!
Happy Birthday Kalani Fergus and many Blessings to you wishing you a wonderful Day .Thank you💐🎂🍰🍾🥂🎈🎉
What an horrific man. Jealousy caused him to take the life of two innocent people. So so sad .
PSA:
"A and An are two different forms of the same word: the indefinite article a that is used before noun phrases. Use a when the noun or adjective that comes next begins with a consonant sound. Use an when the noun or adjective that comes next begins with a vowel sound. Remember that what matters is the pronunciation, not the spelling."
@@ALCRAN2010 You didn’t use quotations in your PSA and it made this hard to read
Remember, when the psycho who has you against your will asks if you want to get married, you say YES.

@@shadowmage661 the point is buy some time then _go to the police at your FIRST chance!_
My psychotic ex said yes after manipulating me to ask her. Sorry, yes she said when I asked her to make me the happiest man in the world... that followed by telling me she didn't believe in any of the wedding vows after a visit from an incest relationship of hers
Hind sight is always 20/20. With your logic, we could actually say she got herself killed by getting involved with the looser in the first place.
Those kids won’t have a mom now, will they?
Punctuation is your friend 😊
I mean. She was going to work, seen alive and fine with him. They really had no reason to suspect she was in danger.
Absolutely agree. I don't think she'd ever be able to escape Kevin. Heartbreaking
@@Scarethelocals He probably threatened to hurt her kids if she went to the police. It's the only thing that makes sense.
Yeah I'd be freaking terrified. Not only had she got away, but he came back. Found her new boyfriend and killed him?
Surely from then on she'd be in survival mode.
True but she convinced him to come back after he left and tried to get over the relationship
I love you too Mike !! A talented man who brought so much joy to people through his music, killed because of jealousy.
Nothing is better than hearing "Hey You and welcome!" Twice a week! You're the best Mike! You and Deadbug Says are my only true crime channels i get excited about uploads
He only uploads once a week now. 😞
Scott seems like someone you'd love to know. A really good guy. It's really really sickening. What a waste.
Abuse is the new normal. Once a person is abused over a long period of time the victim learns to act normally away from the abuser
His lawyer was more upset then he was
Godddd I know how strong coercion from a violent spouse can be.
I like turtles❤🐢
His lawyers fawning over him is disturbing. Gives me smooth-talking, psycho vibes....
It's so odd watching his attorney cry for him!
shows how effective his manipulation could be.
@@KarmicSalt it's definitely frightening.
