Thanks for the video. I have used Paul Buff Einstein lights for a decade. They were very light and color accurate with a short flash duration but needed an added $260 battery pack to use them outdoors and only feature manual mode with no high speed sync. I didn't really need the extra features for indoor portraits but thought it would be great for the extra flexibility to go with several ad 600 pros. They appear great but they are tanks compared to the Einsteins. I have already begun considering the ad 300 pros for an additional option. They would be much lighter and compact when you only supplemental light. Just wish they also had an AC option. Thanks again for the video.

@@ianr2926 The screen will break if you drop it on a hard surface. It will however still work. Just sandbag it before you raise it up and you will have no issues. I love the 400+ power of them together and then separate them when I don’t need that much and use one as a kicker/hair light.

I love your work. Thanks for this video and letting us know of the discounts. These are awesome discounts. I think I’m leaning towards the 300, even with the discount. Do you think that, with all of the photoshoots you did with the 400, the 300 would’ve been enough? Also, do you think that a 4-stop nd filter is sufficient enough for the photoshoots you have done?

    • @fjhphoto
      @fjhphoto  3 роки тому +8

With a ND filter yes the 300 is enough. But using HSS I would use the 400. If you use f/2.8 lenses 4 stops is enough. If you use f/1.4 lenses then definitely 6 stops.

Amazing video! I am more a portrait photographer and think both options (300 and 400) would be great! Because I am mainly an outdoor portrait shooter for now I am still undecided which route to go. You mention the 300 is great for close up, which makes me lean towards that. However the 400 can be great as I continue to work on creative portraits work. As you can see still I am all over the place. Any tips/recommendations would be helpful.

    • @fjhphoto

Go with the 400 because the deal is too good to pass up. At night or in the studio the modeling lamp is better to have over the weaker 300's lamp.

Thanks for all the very helpful videos on your channel! I just subscribed and also just joined your FB group! I'm usually shooting in a darkened studio, so I'm not super concerned about modeling lamp power, but I was wondering if the bulb size was at all a factor in filling something like a large softbox with double diffusion, given that it seems like the bulb sizes are quite small on the lower wattage strobes in this line. Or is wattage the only thing that matters? I've only ever had one set of strobes (older Flashpoints that have to be plugged into the wall), and they seem to have much larger bulbs than what's in something like the 200 or even 300.

In Europe you can get third party batteries from reputable brand for Godox Ad200 and Ad300. During the Black Friday sale they were 1/3 of the OG battery price.
On the other hand a spare battery or an AC adapter for AD400 is 1/3 of the whole AD400 set.

Great Review. I just subscribed to your channel. I was hoping for some advice. I would like to go ahead and buy the ad300 pro due to its size and portability. I would like to take photos of my dogs outside without a big set up. However, I would also like to make a small studio in my house. What would you recommend for two additional strobes. I would like to take photos of things like throwing treats in the air (freezing action), dog portraits, and dogs next to pet products. I was hoping to have one main light and two strip lights. I have pretty limited experience so I am not sure which strobes will work well… or how much power I am going to need. I would imagine the ad300 should be enough? I could get some ad200s or some ak400IIs or ms300s. I can experiment with different setups… battery and recycle time isn’t really important. I would like to be able to freeze action though. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have three 400 Pros and am highly tempted to get two more while they're on sale to flesh out the studio… They're incredible lights. Great recycle times, great color accuracy mode, great flash durations, great adaptability to other systems (though the 300 Pro can take the same adapters), great modeling light unlike the 300 Pro, and AC adapter option. I personally like to adapt my lights to Profoto in many cases to use flash head grids and zoom reflectors (narrower spread than standard reflectors), and the 400 Pro always proves a dream for that! The biggest plus for the 400 Pro though is the modeling lamp. It's much more usable than a 12W close to what you get in a 200 (which I also have).

Making the batteries interchangeable between other Godox units means people would want to buy the next godox unit, staying in the godox ecosystem. Right now every battery in their pro line is different so there is no incentive to mix and match units. Depends on if you don’t mind the extra space the dual 200s requires. I didn’t mind the dual 200s setup in the past but after experiencing the 300 I much prefer it. The 300 doesn’t extend as long with an uneven weight distribution like the dual 200 setup, the 300 has Godox mount which uses smaller modifiers in loving, and is smaller. The main benefit of the dual 200 setup is not just the extra 100W of power but the much brighter modeling lamp which is 40W.

    Godox ad400 pro or 600bm?

400 Pro is better for several reasons to me. Godox mount, smaller, and brighter modeling lamp.

None anytime soon. They periodically have sales and I've shared those sales when they happen too.

Smart choice. I used my 600 recently and I was a lot bigger than I remember, haha. Love my 300.

У ad400 больше мощность, но вы не всегда будете делать снимки на максимуме мощности. У 300 вспышки мощность меньше, следовательно износ выше.
Но! Когда есть возможность взять ad400 то лучше конечно же брать ad600pro 🤩

Not sure what you mean? I use a ND filter with these lights.
