Can I just say, this is THE best review for these flashes being compared. Straight to the point
I was just about to say the exact same think...
Thank you for this comment, my thoughts EXACTLY.
facts
I don't comment often on here, but this was the best comparison I've seen. You've got your technical specs down, and it was exactly what I was looking for!

Fantastic video and review. Quite clear and concise. Thank you so much for creating and sharing this information. Very helpful!
Excellent review.... saved me some money thank you. Going with the 400 if it can overpower the sun.

How easy is it to switch from Godox to Bowens adapter?
This is a fantastic video exactly every single detail I wanted to know!!!!!!! Seriously great job
Thanks so much Shadai!

This review has me not regret my purchase of the ad 400 thank you for this precise review! If anything I’ll move my light closers a smidget
Hi Spencer, the AD400Pro is still a great light! We're glad you enjoyed this video :)
Great review. Thank you
Wow this was perfect! 899 vs 649 huge cost savings with only a 1/2 stop? I shoot architecture and usually we use power packs or monos w 1000ws and never are at full power. Thinking the 400pro is worth the investment until making more $ to get the 600 or even the DP1000 Godox.
Appreciate the good review!
Great vid.. explained the differences beautifully!

Thank you🌷 You really helped me.
Good comparison. I kinda like the handle on the ad400. May be it was designed with outdoor photoshoot in mind.
Excellent review brother
THANKYOU FROM NEPAL!
Top explanation!
Would you recommend the AD600 or the AD400 in harsh sunlight ?
For freeze movements like in sport inside or outside, what do you recommended ?
What would you recommend for outdoor vehicle photography.
Appreciations from India🇮🇳 ,Very well explained. So AD 400 cannot be used for indoor shoot?
Thanks Sujit! The AD400 Pro can be used inside or outside! There's even a power adapter if you want to use it inside with AC Power called the AC400.
thanks for this, browski
I have a question , in case if I use both in the same time for liquid splash shot , is the difference in the flash speed in both flashes affecting the final picture ? Thank you for this great video
Hello, yes they would likely both have a slight difference in flash speed, however it may be so small that you won't see that in the final image result. Both units have flash duration indication on their LCD panels so it may be possible to minimize the difference between the two with slight power adjustments.
Hi, I already have one Ad600 but I’m planning to get two more for my studio set up. Do you think I can buy 2 Ad400 and mix it with one Ad600 I already have. I’m trying to save some money.
Which one do you prefer for studio shootings, family and children's shootings?
This video has some great information. I have a question about outdoor photos. I been thinking of getting ad600 pro for outdoor family portraits. Would you recommend the ad400pro has enough light on sunny days or is ad600pro a better option? Thanks. Im also thinking about light placement to the subject. Im assuming 600 can be put at a further distance and out of the pic frame to not have to edit it out compared to the 400?
Hey There! This is a great question! The AD600Pro is going to be a go-to for outdoor options especially if you plan on balancing out the sun. Yes it's true that you could distance the the AD600 further away out of frame to get more light onto your subject, that said keep in mind that the AD600Pro and the AD400Pro are only a difference of half a stop in power so that distance isn't going to be a huge amount!
the difference is big, with the ad400 Pro you will fall short outdoors when you want to take full-body portraits. The ad600 Pro is the best although it weighs a little more. Greetings.
Which one is best for outdoors?
Great comparison... Love how efficiently you think and express yourself... Glad you didn't spoil this video with random bursts of useless Sesame Street style attention grabbers...
Which is best for a one light kit when doing indoor portraits in a relatively small space but I’d like something to grow into?
The AD400Pro is great for indoor and outdoor shoots and is a great flash to grow into!
My wife does food photography inside our home. Can a ad600 be adjusted low enough? Would it ever be too much? Would you recommend a ad300, 400 or 600? Thanks for your time and great channel!
If you're only going to be using it for food photography and not for outdoor or in-studio portraiture, the AD600 is a bit overkill. I would recommend saving some money and opting for the AD300, which is small enough with a modifier that you could even navigate it within a small kitchen to get food prep/cooking shots too!
Thanks for the reply!
Hello, Can we use Ad600 pro battery in Ad400 pro led light housing n vice versa? Thanks
Hi Karn, The AD600 Pro and AD400 Pro batteries are not interchangeable and are two different battery models. WB400P for the AD400 Pro and WB26 for the AD600 Pro.
@@MidwestPhoto ..Thank you so much for ur prompt response. Do take care of urself n ur loved ones from this pandemic. Luv from India❤❤. Namaste🙏🙏
Even tho it’s slightly bigger and heavier I am happy with my ad600pro. I use hss outdoors a lot that extra power comes in handy. Besides it’s always good to have lead way when the moment rise. The ad400pro as the ad300pro have a problem. For the price of one you can buy a ad600.
Can I use the 400 for indoor studio shots ??
Hi Jose, yes the AD400 is excellent as a wire-free solution for indoor studio shots.
Is there the option to have them plugged into a wall socket?
Yes there is purchased separately :) www.hypop.com.au/products/godox-ac400-ac-power-unit-adapter-for-ad400pro
Yes, there is! Thanks for asking! Here is the link for it on our site: mpex.com/godox-ac-adapter-for-ad600.html
So what is the best for you
Hi Shanujan, great question! We asked Austin (our lighting specialist in this video) that question and here's what he had to say: The AD600 PRO is my choice over the AD400 PRO simply because of the ability to use the additional power as I need it. When shooting product photography in the studio, I am often using higher apertures and low ISO meaning I need a lot of power to expose my sensor. The stronger modeling light is also nice when shooting in the studio as I may sometimes use it for video as well. Even then, I may not always use 600 watts in the studio but I will sometimes come close when shooting outdoors and using the light with HSS & TTL combined to overpower the sunlight and create dramatic imagery.
Amazon has both at the same price, I guess I’ll get the 600. Seems to be slightly more powerful
Hi. So there isn’t a significance power difference?
Hi Michael, there is a 200 watt-second difference between the two, which equates to about half a stop in terms of light.
@@MidwestPhoto thanks. So in terms of light intensity or power, the 600 is only 1/2 brighter?
@@michaelmartinez6899 Correct. Beyond that they have roughly the same number of full power flashes per battery/charge (360 vs. 380 full power flashes) and the AD600Pro will have the bowens mount natively, as where the AD400Pro you have to use an adapter, but we do include that with the product.
So you only get 390 flashes from a full battery? I shoot fast moving toddlers- I don’t think this will work. Maybe I’m not understanding that part of your video
No power indicator on the AD400.
Hi Mike, there's a power indicator on the AD400Pro screen and a battery indicator to check the battery on the top as well.
@@MidwestPhoto i see the power indicator on my ad400 pro no button to press to activate it. How to do it ? Thanks in advance.
@@syndiaye The button is very thin, we reccomend using a fingernail or a pen to activate the button and see green lights metering the battery.
All these reviews yet no one is mentioning the elephant in the room the battery problem. For those whom are interested they have a problem with the batteries if you leave them off the charger for too long they lock up and won’t charge anymore without so tinkering. The problem is wide spread and can happen in a short span. I have two and don’t use both every shoot. Brand new I left one off the charger for a couple weeks and it would no longer charge. I sent it back and got a replacement only for it to happen again. Bought one off Amazon and it didn’t charge when it arrived. They have to be left on the charger for the most part or you risk running I to the same issue. Currently have one down now so will have to swap it as well as I shouldn’t have to break it open for the product to work consistently
I guess ad400 pro is best
It really depends on what you want to do with it!
