    Hey man - great video! My first time seeing you here, but glad the algorithm worked. I've been searching on Godox AD400 Pro all day (just bought one and trying to consume as much info as possible). Ultimately, I was looking for a breakdown of the AD400 but this comparison worked, just as well. Your presentation is spot-on; audio is perfect; visual depiction of what you're speaking on was in sync. Lighting/background - perfect. Content was extremely informative. I only hope I can attain this level of awesomeness one day. I'll be subbing -- thanks again!

    This was a good test, I did a video on just the ADB2 and it’s performance, I don’t own a AD400 due to owning the ADB2 I kinda just took godox’s word that you would get the same outputs as a ad400 and I’m happy to see that is true. Great job covering the different comparisons.

      I loved my AD-B2 until yesterday when all of a sudden it stopped working. Luckily I was just trying some light set ups at home. It only lasted 1 year and 2 months so I got my money’s worth but still. So I ordered an AD400 pro, can’t wait to try it.

      @ooltimu Рік тому +1

      @negretehh weird. The ADB2 doesn't have electronics inside afaik, it's just the connections from the AD200s to the bulbs plus the modeling LEDs, so beside the LEDs there shouldn't be anything to go bad. How did you determine it doesn't work?

    I have the AD-B2 with the evolve 200 pro, wasn't thinking about it's lack of portability till you mentioned it...LOL. But staring me in my face is my Godox MS300 protective flash cap similar the cap you displayed and it fits perfectly over both bare bulbs of the AD-B2. Good tip thank you. Also I was thinking about getting the flash head extension for the evolve 200 but 2 of them and connect it to the AD-B2 to take the weight off the top of my light stand have the evolve 200s mounted to the bottom pole of the stand.

    • @AnthonyToglife
      @AnthonyToglife  2 роки тому

      @jhenry248 I could definitely see where that MS300 cover would work, sadly it doesn't seem I can order just the cover, and I'm thinking the cover isn't worth $125 ;-) I didn't know they made those extension heads for the AD200's, just looked it up. I'm intrigued to buy a couple but really, I've never had an issue with the weight of the kit. Unless I'm booming the light, the weight has been a non-issue and typically if I'm booming a light, I'll have to counterweight it regardless (from the weight of the modifier itself) so it's nothing to add a little more weight to offset the strobe as well. And mind you I don't own any C-stands, I just use "heavy duty" PBL stands.

    I thank u for the test and video. From a financial perspective at the cost of 2 ad200 etc etc. Its obvious to grab a used ad600 or one on sale if possible. • @AnthonyToglife
      @AnthonyToglife  Рік тому

      Well @Isaypreach, it's not just the financial side you should look at. There is a benefit to having 2 AD200's versus one AD600. There are times where the quantity of lights you have supersedes the power of light you have. I would always tell anyone just getting into OCF to get multiple lower-power flashes first, then step up to the bigger, more powerful strobes later.

    Nice gear comparison video bro. That ad400pro is nice. I’ve used it a few times but never got around to buying it. The size of it makes it a great addition to any kit. • @AnthonyToglife
      @AnthonyToglife  2 роки тому +2

      @TJ_Fox25 I barely use that AD400, lol. For most situations a single AD200 is all I need and if I think I'll need more, I'll reach for the AD-B2 over the AD400 mainly to have the versatility of two flashes. Usually the only time I go for the AD400 right of the rip is when I know I'm going to need power for most of the shoot, like a midday photoshoot.

    • @visionz_n_media

      @@AnthonyToglife it’s good to know your use case. I usually carry my 600 and 200 on my outdoor portraits but that 400 would definitely replace the need for me to carry a 600. I usually like having more power and stopping it down to get a faster recycle speed with my flash. The same goes with my 200 in place of a speed light, giving me instantaneous recycle speed when stopping down to the power of my speed lights. I rarely ever had to use full power.

    Hi Anthony, just saw your video, appreciate sharing the "setup" time of the 2 units. There are lot more parts/pieces trying to use the AD-B2. Unless you really love the AD200's or on budget and have 1 ad200 already.... it seems AD400 is way more convenient if you have the extra cash to invest. I was making that debate between adding another AD200 vs getting something like an AD400. You video helped me decide to pass on the AD200... knowing me I'd lose parts/or break something trying to put 2 AD200s together :) Thank you!

    • @AnthonyToglife
      @AnthonyToglife  Рік тому

      Yeah, there's definitely more parts going the AD-B2 route, but I actually would still recommend that over the AD400 if someone asked, purely for flexibility and redundancy. Being able to have two lights instead of one has a lot of value, and if one AD200 goes down, you can still limp through a shoot or event with one. To this day I still use my AD-B2 more than my AD400.

    Thank you for your comparison. I have 2 AD200’s and the B2 thing, but haven’t used it yet because I think I want to get the extension heads so my lighting setup isn’t so top heavy for outdoor sessions. I wondered if it would be better to get the AD400 with that extension head. Your compression showed me that I have all the flash power I would need and I’d save about $800 by just getting a couple ad200 extensions since I already have the other components.

    • @AnthonyToglife
      @AnthonyToglife  9 місяців тому

      It's interesting you mentioned the extension head, because I had been toying with the idea of picking one up for quite some time. I still think it would be really useful to have, but since I don't generally boom my light when I'm on location, I haven't really found the weight to be an issue, so there hasn't been much motivation for me to buy the extension head. I typically pair my AD-B2 with a Glow 34" beauty dish, which is fairly light, so even a moderately heavy duty light stand can handle the load without issue. I will always advocate for going with two AD200's over an AD400 for the flexibility; I only use one AD200 75% of the time; to think that I would have to use an AD400 all of that time over the much smaller AD200 is a daunting thought.

How about posting some shots of work you've done? But that aside, I hope you succeed. You're engaging because the viewer knows you are, as well. Much luck in your new endeavor!

      I appreciate the kind words @Donald Vosburgh. The main reason I don’t really post my work in my UA-cam vids is because it’s a business choice I’ve made to not put client photos in my vids. Although contractually I can, I just choose not to. If I do collab shoots, I’ll include those in a vid. I know that some viewers would like to see example photos, and I’m planning to do more collab shoots to be able to give the viewers that. Thank you for watching and commenting.

    Great video, not sure i agree with the setup time differences, for me I always pack up ad200's in my camera bag with the batteries attached. However, if I was to do it all again I wouldn't buy the ad-b2 due to the bare bulbs and the issues of using gels with them,. It's also a hassle to gel the ad300 and ad400. Instead, I would go with the MagMod, MagRing as I can easily add gels as it's all magnetic. Costs more but it's much more time efficient. Plus if I want 2 lights I have it whereas the ad400 is just one light. Either way, great content as always. ❤🎉✅👍🏻🙏🏻

      I haven’t tested either @karlweb1 because the Godox/Flashpoint lights have worked very well for me and I haven’t had any need/desire to try a different brand, especially the more costlier ones like Elinchrom and Profoto. I’m frugal, lol, so I try to get the job done for as minimal cost as possible. I know some photographers feel there’s a bad “stigma” from a biz perspective showing up with Godox/Flashpoint lights, but never once in my career thus far has anyone even as much as mentioned it or questioned it. That being said, I do think that head to head would be a great one, so maybe in 2023 I’ll try to get my hands on both systems and do just that! 💪🏾

    I know this is a year old, but one way I transport with my ad-b2 is to put the bulbs into the ad-b2 and then use a standard reflector with a grid for protection. You could easily put that into your bag with the 2 x ad200.

    Great comparison video, my question is that, is it worth saving $100-$150 bucks to have the flexibility of two 200ws? Or will I want to have two 400w powered strobes? This will be my first off camera light setup, and I want to cover as many scenarios as possible.

    • @AnthonyToglife
      @AnthonyToglife  2 роки тому +1

      @ModestBeginnings the general rule is that it’s better to have two much power and not need than to need and not have. But, IMHO, two AD400’s would likely be overkill for most situations, unless you predominantly shoot outdoors in harsh or bright conditions. To specifically answer your question, I stand behind my feeling that the flexibility of two flashes in the AD-B2 is better than the one AD400. But if there is a solid reason you think you’d need two AD400’s, invest in it now. The ease of the AD400’s make them the better choice if you’re picking up two of them. It wouldn’t be likely that you would need three lights for basic portrait work. Hopefully that helps, let me know if you have any more questions!

    Thank you for the video! Have you tried using the AD200Pro with bigger softboxes, such as over 120cm in diameter or length? I'm looking towards using very big softboxes for the type of photography I'm doing (5 ft/150cm softboxes) but I'm not sure if a single AD200Pro is strong enough for that...

    • @AnthonyToglife
      @AnthonyToglife  2 роки тому +1

      I have not @Intan but using AD200Pro’s won’t yield any more power over the first gen AD200’s so your results would be similar. I have a vid on my channel where I use a speedlight with really large modifiers; an AD200 can fill a 5ft modifier indoors, but outdoors it can be trickier, especially when using HSS or an ND filter to cut down your ambient exposure. If you shoot a lot outdoors, I’d recommend two AD200’s and the AD-B2, or an AD400 if you wanna keep it simple or don’t already own an AD200.

    When you use the ad200 or ad400 shooting into umbrellas do you keep them as bare open bulbs or do you mount metal modifiers. I realize bare will spread light more and modifiers will require more space between the strobe and the umbrellas.

    Yeah, you are saying ISO correctly. The reason some others say it I-S-O is because the old sensitivity ratings for film was ASA, pronounced A-S-A. But that's because ASA is the American Standards Association and indeed ASA is an acronym, whereas ISO ("Eye-so") is a Greek word and not an acronym. Good video!

    The first test you did with open flash tube can not give you accurate power please insert the reflector
    And redo a test on that with both units. That will give a proper power of the 2 units.
    Remember the light scatter all over the place with out a reflector your wall absorbed the power of this unit.
    With the reflector in place it is a direct output and more precise.
    Otherwise great reviews. Regarding the issue with the bracket 8400 go the elinchrom litemotiv indirect Octa
    If you find the separate bracket that hold that part ( I know it is sold separately call Eli ) you fit any of Godox bracket and you will not have that problem any longer. I use the regular bracket for Godox 860 and my old and trusted 360 Godox.
    With that modification.

    • @AnthonyToglife
      @AnthonyToglife  Рік тому +2

      Thanks for the comment @Cesare Bonazza. With respect to the first test, I'm not sure what you're meaning behind needing to use a reflector, because that isn't true at all to get a proper meter reading. Keep in mind, the video was comparing the two light sources, so even if your statement was correct, any bounce or interference would have occurred for both light sources and the test would still be valid, as I'm comparing light sources to each other. Having used flash in that apartment many, many times and metering often, I can absolutely tell you the meter readings were accurate, especially having the dome in, and the walls don't absorb any light, if anything they reflect a lot of light but that has minimal bearing on the meter reading with the dome in. If I still lived there I would prove it to ya, but I don't, so you'll just have to take my word for it. ;-)

    Would the modeling light on ad400 constrict pupils at 1-2 meters? Shot in a dark living room the other day with ad300 and the modeling light was not strong enough to close down the pupils enough to show the blue irises. Was disappointing. Thinking of going full constant light but maybe not.

    • @AnthonyToglife
      @AnthonyToglife  5 місяців тому

      The modeling light on the AD400 is almost a stop and a half brighter than that of the AD300, so depending on the modifier you’re using, the AD400 modeling light can definitely be bright enough to restrict pupils.
      That being said, it wouldn’t hurt to pick up a continuous light for this purpose. Even something affordable like a 60w light would serve the purpose.

    Saying 'iso' is correct, btw. Years ago Tony Northrup had a mini-rant about it. You can go to the website and they say it's based on a Greek word meaning equal.
    "Because 'International Organization for Standardization' would have different acronyms in different languages (IOS in English, OIN in French for Organisation internationale de normalisation), our founders decided to give it the short form ISO. ISO is derived from the Greek 'isos', meaning equal. Whatever the country, whatever the language, we are always ISO."

    I'm very suprised (in a negative way) that given the huge popularity of the Godox flashes (ad200 in particular) as well as the duration they (the adb2 and the ad400) has been out in the market, not many of the youtubers that has actually done a direct comparison like what you just did. I remember a while ago before I pulled the trigger on the 1st Ad200 flash, I was also considering the ad400, searching for a video like this. Again, to my surprise in a negative way, I found only 1 video, and it wasn't done in English. I have to turn on youtube Auto generated English which translate very poorly, in order to understand what the presenter was trying to say. Nonetheless, I got the main thing I wanted to know from that video, was that ADB2 was about 1/3 stop less powerful than the Ad400, which matches what you've said.
    With the full awareness of that, I went with the Ad200 anyway with Robert hall's recommendations from one of his video. I have to give it to you for the amount of work and detail comparisons you've made between them. The reason why I was searching for this kind of comparison video again (not in a high hope, but surprised to find yours) was because I'm getting my 2nd Ad200. Your video strengthen my confidence on the the decision I've made to go with the 1st Ad200 was correct, as well as the getting the 2nd Ad200 that's I have just placed my order yesterday. Needless to say, the ADB2 will be in the shopping cart soon. Lastly, I just want to say, thank you, and yeah, it's about time !

I just think the versatility in having two flashes/lighter setup when you need it is truly beneficial over having just the one AD400. I'm happy to hear that your path worked out for you, and it's always rewarding to know one of my videos helped someone, regardless of how much. I appreciate you.
