RIP Maggie you were a legend through and through your legacy won’t be forgotten another generation of kids will grow up with you whether they see you in Harry Potter or downtown abbey ive first saw you in the secret garden! You truly shaped my childhood please rest in peace now you will always be remembered❤
Watched this clip to cheer myself up this weekend, was always a fan of Dame Maggie's comments. And today we got the devastating news. RIP, what an absolute legend.
Dame Joan Plowright is magnificent! I still can’t stop laughing at her part in the Steve Martin film “bringing Down the house” she literally stole the show!
Came back to see this hilarious clip again after hearing the news - rest in peace Dame Maggie Smith and thank you for all the amazing characters you brought to life. Your star shines on brightly.
One of my earliest memories of watching movies when I was little was Dennis the Menace (1993) and Dame Joan Plowright played such a warm and lovable character of Mrs. Wilson. True class!
Joan is one of the most underrated talents ever, thank you for bringing Mrs. Wilson to life, the memories I share watching that movie with my parents are so dear, and she and Walter are pillars to my childhood.
They are right though. Dame Judy does seem to get first pick of the Hollywood roles for her age group. But I expect that is because women aging is not a positive in Hollywood. In the UK they do not care as much.
Kristine Maitland I think it’s also because when comparing the three Judy Dench is more widely known. I mean so is Maggie but I think with Harry Potter still very fresh Hollywood doesn’t want to feel like she’s type casted
I think it's more to do with the range Judi's played, from M to Queen Elizabeth I to small art films like Filomena (I think that's how it's spelled). Maggie Smith is known more for a certain type of role (matronly or acerbic). As far Plowright, I personally can only remember two films of hers and she wasn't a big part in either.
I beg to differ. Ageing women in British media are non existent. As soon as they near 60 the BBC gets em ready for the glue factory. We don't have women like Barbara Walters, Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg or Diane Sawyer.
For Maggie Smith it is well known, that she doesnt travel to America often becauce of being terrified of flying. They even made a joke at Emmy awards because she's been nominaten a lot and won a few, but she never showed up at the ceremony. So my guess is that she mostly accepts roles in Britain.
Four absolutely wonderful talented and hilariously funny women. Was sad to see Dame Joan had lost such a considerable amount of her eyesight though. Getting older is bloody cruel!
Dame Maggie Smith has nothing to worry about at all! She will be remembered for the next 80-100 years till the Harry Potter generation kids grow old and die 😂! Noone will forget prof McGonagall 😘
The acting industry in Britain reveres it's older actresses (Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Helen Mirren, the late Diana Rigg, Eileen Aitkens, Joan Plowright etc) in a way that the American side of the business does not. Part of it comes down to the fact that these ladies have continued to enjoy active careers in theatre and are still in demand and thus appreciated in that medium in a way that film and television tend to overlook and ignore older women beyond offering them supporting roles. In the US, leading parts for ladies tend to become increasingly scarce when you're over the age of 50. The general shelve life for a leading actress in Hollywood is less than ten years whilst leading men have much longer careers.......
I didn't know who Joan Plowright was. I recognized her face when I looked her up but I hadn't seen many of the movies she was in. She is known mostly as a stage actor and my wife, who is a theater fan, knew who she was immediately. Ms. Plowright trivia: She was married to Laurence Olivier.
Having your friend offer you one of her hearing aids so you can hear the conversation is obviously a #friendshipgoal
What is it that you are saying?

😂😂😂😂💕💕
Excellent
"I'm turning on you now. It's all coming out now" LOL
"A nice little cameo that Judi Dench hasn't got her paws on!" I love it!
It's helen Mirren now every time I watch a movie she is in it

"Well, they're American, darling. That's how they talk."
great line.
wonderful!
Yup. We do lol!
European-American cultural clashes are so funny 😄😄 Americans often also find us Europeans rude, but we don't really mean to be rude.
'and the Americans havnt spoken it in centeries!- or why can't the english speak English?'
That is a hell of a lot of talent sitting at that table .
Judi: you’re turning on me
Maggie: I’m turning on you
My brain: Comedic duo everyone 😂
Hits different today 💔 RIP Maggie Smith you were magic
I kinda want a sequel - “Coffee with the Knights” with Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Derek Jacobi, and Sir Anthony Hopkins.
Yesssss
Sir Michael Caine too
But is there a friendship between them as deep as this one is?
@@RegBarlowat least for Sir Ian and Patrick, they're super close friends.
Yeah agree on that one

No competition just not enough roles for women their age
This was such a senior moment. "My hearing aids is gone, what were we just talking about? Do you want one of mine." 😂😂😂😂
The line about God eyesight was another good one.
First thing I watched again after hearing the news of Maggie's passing. She was such a delight here!
This is like watching my grandmother having tea with her friends.
Except not in a trailer park with half her teeth fallen out

My favorite part of that movie will always be the dinner scene where she starts singing, the “negro” spiritual 😂
