    Draining the gasoline from the carburetor... That is great advice! I have a 15 year old snowblower which I shut down by turning off the fuel valve and let it sputter out. It's never given me a lick of engine trouble. Gas sitting in a carb long term is trouble.
    Back in the day, a friend had a motorcycle/small engine shop, and every spring, business was booming. Because guys wouldn't drain the carbs, the gasoline turns to goo, and it's game over. I've pulled out, disassembled, and cleaned more racks of carbs than I can remember. Maybe I just don't want to remember...

    I just picked up a 1953 model at a local auction. I will be changing fluids and do some tlc. I also have a 1949 Ford 8N. It's amazing how similar they are, also most parts are still available for both. Thank you for the informative video. When I picked up the tractor I didn't know about putting the lever in starting position, fortunately, someone at the auction was able to educate me on it.

    Hey 65. Can`t beat the old Ford/ Ferguson tractors. I have a 9N from the late 30`s- early 40`s, I don`t know exactly. Don`t have a loader. Got a back bucket, tooth harrow, Furguson two bottom plow and back blade. All are genuine period correct implements. One thing which will prevent gumming up of modern fuels that I do is to completely fill the fuel tank all the way till just to overflowing. Leave no air gap in the system and you will not get any varnishing or bacterial or other buildup in the system. Just make sure you have a gas shutoff in the feedline and run the carb dry. You can make double sure by mixing in a small amount of 2 stroke mix as well. It works as a stabilizer.

    Hey Moe, enjoyed the walk around. I like "what's old is new" oil filter.I have been looking for a back hoe for awhile. Either they are asking crazy price for a "lifetime" project or are sold about as fast as they are listed for a reasonably priced one. As far as running equipment dry I haven't had any start problems for years doing this. In my county they do not allow the sale of ethanol free gas. I pick some up when ever I travel next county over, but not enough.Stay well, Joe Z

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  5 років тому +1

      Gernally if the clutch disc is rusted to the flywheel/pressure plate a good jolt can free it up. Depress the clutch pedal for the following tips: Use the engine starter to crank the engine while in a the highest gear. Pull the tractor with a truck/tractor while in the highest gear. With the transmission in the highest gear rotate the crankshaft bolt with a breaker bar.

    • @lukebecker1959

    Old and a bit crusty, but the tractor looks ok he he :-D.
    Yes it does looks a bit rusty but it's a solid old beast, i did noticed the rams shuddering when lifting/dropping the bucket, likely worn pivots and sticky seals i guess.
    But still usable for an old beast of 70 years :-D
    The coke can does the job, why change it :-).

    I was thinking about getting one of these because they are cheap but a friend of mine who had one of the Ford models said they are a real bitch to steer and damn near impossible to steer with a load on the bucket. Is this pretty much the case?

      I keep the wood chipper on the back and even keep a cement block on that to counter act the loader weight. It makes it much easier to steer with a loaded bucket. The skinnier and more air pressure in the front tires also helps. It will never be extremely easy to steer but it's not bad for occasional jobs.
