    Done. Thanks, didn't want to hard wire just yet. This worked well. Didn't cut that notch though so I'm crimping the wire for now. If I have to replace it so be it, not willing to cut the trim just yet. Also you don't have to remove the other trim close to the door, easier to wire it through the weather strip further down

    The power cable is on the wrong side of the airbag. Remove the A-pillar trim and run the wire on the windshield side of the airbag. When the airbag is deployed, an explosive device inflates the airbag with a lot of force. The side airbag is much closer to the side of the car than the front airbag is to the front so there is less time available in a side impact to inflate the airbag so the explosion is stronger and closer to you. Any foreign object that is in the way of the airbag will be thrown with great force in an unknown direction, possibly into the passenger. Also, the energy used to throw the foreign object will slow the inflation of the airbag thereby reducing its effectiveness. These are good reasons to do a little extra work and route the cables where they can do no harm.

    • @Striker50_
      @Striker50_  2 роки тому +2

      Either edge will do. The power cable is on the side of the airbag, not on top of it. If the airbag is to deploy, the cable is either going left or right. In this case, it is on the right.
      The A-pillar plastic trim also has a plastic fastener that is difficult to adjust and reattach.

      @@Striker50_ Charles is right, the airbag is obstructed in your video... you may want to fix this on your installation, it is a safety hazard. It's not a big deal to take the A pillar off and install the cable such that it won't obstruct the airbag in case of deployment. Just pop off that "side curtain airbag" rectangle with the trim removal tool, and there is an 8mm screw behind it. The rest of your installation is awesome, thank you for taking the time to show/explain how to route the cable to the center console.

    • @jhfisk
      @jhfisk Рік тому

      @@Striker50_ He is correct... the power cord crosses the airbag as you tucked it in at the top of the A-pillar. It is, unfortunately, a safety hazard. Having some knowledge of how the airbag works is important here. The side-curtain airbag is not only contained within the A-pillar... it also runs along the whole roofline on each side and is one continuous piece that deploys downward and in front of the side windows, front and back. Hopefully, you are able to re-route this cable before the airbag is ever needed. My fear is for others who do not necessarily know this and simply follow the video.

    Curious why you ran the wire through the passenger side of the car vs the driver side. Seems more logical to run it driver side, seeing that that’s the way you’d normally run it if one was going to hardwire it.

    • @Striker50_
      @Striker50_  7 місяців тому

      Good inquiry: I ran it through the passenger side because there are less technicals than the driver side. (Fuse box, OBD port, brake release, etc.) It would take a bit more work to ensure the cable doesn't get tangled or intertwined in that general area. I also don't have a need to plug in to the fuse box for 24/7 camera operation . Some people here have that preference, but I don't want to create an opportunity for parasitic draw

    Running the wire across the A-Pillar airbag is dangerous. The wire should be run behind the airbag so it doesn’t hinder its deployment in any way. You’re going to a lot of effort to hide the wire the right way so why not do it 100% correctly? Your comments essentially saying “if you can do it better make your own video” are childish. People are pointing out safety concerns. Where that’s concerned, theres really only one way, the right way. Also I typically use a wiring kit for these installations. You can get them from Amazon and there are ones that can be wired to the fusebox to work 24/7 that won’t kill your battery.

    • @Striker50_
      @Striker50_  2 роки тому +5

      As with most things on UA-cam, I myself whole-heartedly am an amateur, and constantly make that disclaimer in my videos.
      If you're referring to the comment critiquing the install, you probably failed to notice the original commenter conveniently deleted their derogatory comments.
      In the event the airbag deploys, it would pull down the cable that was tucked along the roof liner. Is that dangerous? Debatable. But it IS a risk that didn't exist prior nonetheless, so I acknowledge that.
      In my previous experience removing the A-pillar from my 2013 Accord, there was a very specific clip needed to be removed that took me about 30 minutes to remove. That made me reluctant to do it again.
      Again, thank you for the input, and if I install in the future I will take that into consideration. As for this video, it was meant to be quick and simple to where 95% of people understand it, and install a dash camera.
      In hindsight, this 2018 A-pillar is much easier to remove than the 2013-2017, but the video was already made.
      This is free, amateur content after all. Professional advice should always be considered. For budget-conscious people, this video serves as a good starting point 👍If it's their prerogative to act upon it, so be it. At the time of recording, this was my best interpretation of the installation, and discretion should always be had

      That route definitely crosses over the curtain airbag. The cable needs to go between the A column trim and the windshield until you get to the dash. If you take that trim off, you'll see that the airbag is one solid unit from about 3/4 of the way down the A pillar into the ceiling above the door. It's worth popping that trim off to make sure the wire is in the right place. It's only held on by a single bolt under the SRS badge and then a clip lower down, so it's easy to remove.

      If I'm understanding correctly, you're referring to the Honda lanewatch sensors.
      If so, I'd recommend not opening for warranty/etc. Purposes.
      If you tuck too much of the cable away, you won't have slack to remove the camera from the mount/clip. This is important in case you need to unfasten the camera to review an incident that occurred. Does the dash cam run down the car battery being that it’s always plugged in??

      In this video, you can see I plug it into the 12V outlet under the center infotainment 👍

    Running it over the airbag and making cuts into the trim. SMH - do not follow this guys instructions. You are ruining your car.

      It runs on the side of the airbag, not over 🙂 Tiny cut so cable is not pinched
      Thanks for watching 👍

      What's dirty about it?
      I need almost everything shown: Red Box cutter to cut plastic, Yellow towel for cleaning the windshield & surfaces, dash cam packaging on the floor to hold the dash cam parts, and my water bottle because it's a hot day.
      Aside from that:
      The center console has papers (only seen because the center arm rest is opened) & cup holders loose coins.
