the fact that car manufacturers in 2019 still don't include dashcams in their cars is mind boggling. it's not even an option.
Seriously though. Should come standard bruh.
Tesla model 3
I bought a 2015 that wasn't made with air conditioning. Things get worse 😭
Tesla
Samantha Jeep?
This is extremely wrong: you shouldn't pick any random fuse like that. You might attach your dashcam to an important fuse for ABS, or airbags and in case of dashcam burning your fuse you will risk your life on the road without even knowing it. Always check your fuse box schematic and pick a fuse for non important parts like electric mirrors, heated seats or in best case lighter port.
That’s exactly what I was thinking while watching, he didn’t even check which fuse he was disconnecting. 🤣
I was kind of thinking about it, but thank you for letting us know about and will definitely have this in mind when doing mine. Thanks!
What about if the car is too old that the fuse box doesn´t have a map no more. How can I figure out which fuse is from where?
@@noelcalderon2632 find a chart online, it's too risky to randomly remove fuses.
@@noelcalderon2632 there's manuals online that have the fuse box diagram. Or you could always pay a visit to the dealership and they could give you the chart as well.
Dash cams should come already installed in your automobile and insurance costs should be reduced because it actually makes the driver also drive more safely.
Ugh !! Agreeed
if they do that though there would be an unintended consequence by way of either police demanding they have access to it with or without your consent for whatever reason. it would be exploited to sell your information (because capitalism).
You really should secure the wires in the A pillar above your air bag so it is not in the way in case your air bag needs to deploy.
Yes, that was a travesty. It's a basic fact about doing that work. If you have gone to all the trouble of pulling the cover off (which you should), you should finish the job right by securing the wires so they stay behind the airbag. You don't want them interfering with the airbag's deployment path and timing.
I just did that yesterday when installing my dash cam in the front and today with the rear passenger airbag when installing the back-facing camera that connects to the front dash cam.
@@kentix417 yes, this 4:30 is not assuring.
One of the best step-by-step videos on this matter.
This video was BY FAR the most informative and thorough video of its kind I have seen on UA-cam. I now have the confidence and understanding to do this without hiring someone to do it. GREAT JOB young man! You really knocked it out of the park.
You can not run cables over the airbag
Get an Endurance SD card. It lasts much longer, the standard SD cards aren't meant to read and write as much as dash cams do.
Why go to the trouble of removing A-Pillar trim ( as it should be done) and then allowing wires to interfere with the airbag ? Use CABLE TIES to attach dashcam cables to vehicle wiring already present.
That was great. Now I'm off to watch Road Rage-Pepper Spray Addition, human behavior that dash cams were practically made for!
Thanks for the video. Since you asked for suggestions, I'd like to suggest that you make an additional tutorial on how to hook up a second, rear-facing camera.
Good idea shortstack
Running the wires over the airbag notwithstanding, this is a good tutorial/overview on how to install a dash cam.
Agreed. We all learned now that we should tape the wire beyond the airbag, but the quality of the instruction, including (for my particular question) the decision-making of the fuse selection. Thanks very much.
I can't tell if this is sarcastic
I'll add that you might want to wrap the wires you tucked next to the fuse box (specifically the power adapter) in foam to prevent knocking sounds when driving on bumpy roads. It gets annoying
It’s not a big deal
@@AUA-camChannelwithNoName for you is not, but for most people finds it annoying just like me
@@AUA-camChannelwithNoName You wouldn't say that if you drove a nice car.
@@AUA-camChannelwithNoName it's actually annoying on long trips
great video! love how to taught us dummies how to hide the cables and make it look so clean! Would love to see a video on teaching us to install and hide the cables of a rear dashcam!
Great video, its good practice to use a larger fuse to tap from, lager then 5A, the dash cam does not draw a lot but still better to run off a larger source. Also its good practice to tap from a non critical circuit, avoid fuel pumps, engine timing, gauge cluster etc, in case you do get an overload condition your dash cam doesn't hinder or disable your car, use something like heated seats, high beams if they are powered by ignition on.
What about if the car is too old that the fuse box doesn´t have a map no more. How can I figure out which fuse is from where?
@@noelcalderon2632 which car is it? there should be a wiring diagram available for almost any car, if you rally cant find a wiring diagram then the only way would be to use a multi meter and probe, i would try to find the running lights circuit and go off of that
Great video. Simple to follow yet explained it all with enough detail. Thanks.
Thank you for this video. I'm about to install one in the wife's car. I already knew what I wanted to do so this went right along with my plans. Great video. 👍
This was a terrific how-to-video. Thank you, thank you!
The moment the multimeter came in, I knew this is beyond my cup of tea!
Great video bud! Very well made and easily explained! Thank you!
Absolutely LOVE the intro!
Best video on UA-cam hands down
Thanks your tutorial was plain and very clear and it worked like a dream.
nice video, but when doing an install of that sort, make sure you don't run wiring over the airbag.... I'm a professional installer and yes that little wire can cause a lot of damage. Other than that good job.
Excellent. A complete lack of time wasting, just all the information.
I would’ve hooked it to the fuse that keeps it on all the time even when the car is off to also catch possible car thief’s. It’s also good to have it on when the car is off to catch people that may hit and damage your car while it’s parked.
It might drain your battery if you run it continuosly
@@nchan2287 maybe there's a camera in the market that is motion sensor, it only turns on when it sense a movements.
You can get the Smart Wiring kit for the camera he showed in the video that will record when the car is off if it detects vibration
@@HouleiO nice
@C M T it's good if someone hits your car while parked though
Should you be running wires over the airbags in the A pillar???
Obviously, no!!!
that was my only complaint about this video. Definitely dont cover the airbags with wires!
I mean if your airbags do go off your dashcam being in one piece would probably be the least of your worries
Awesome video, I did not know of the fuse adapters that you used. Thanks very much for publishing this video!
I have never seen a more original intro on UA-cam. I like
very good bro, love the details and neatness of your work
Are you going to add a 2nd camera to watch your rear end?
Great video! I had no idea there were kits to hard wire a dash cam into your vehicle. Thanks!
That is an optional buy like with my camera, Rove R2-4K.
Where was this video when I installed my cameras 😁
Great video. Thank you for going strait to the point 👊🏻
Clean install Buddy, Keep up the nice work looking forward to see more of your videos.
Great video. Easy to understand and to the point.
Good video, excellent picture quality. Clear to follow.
Thanks for breaking down the steps. I do agree with another commenter that choosing the right fuse is probably important (rather than at random)
it's not really a good idea to leave the wires dangling inside the A pillar trim on cars with side curtain airbags as it could interfere or get damaged when the airbags deploy. It's best if you anchor the wires to something (preferably to the pre-existing harness), it also can prevent the wires from rattling.
In 20 years, people are going to make fun of how much work was involved to get this dash cam up & running. I'm sure it'll get a lot easier.
really good vid not a bunch load music or wasteful talking just right to the point and good install info.
thanks.
That’s awesome man. I’m gonna pick up one of those fuse set ups to try that out but the only issue is my fuse box isn’t in the cabin. It’s under the hood. Hopefully it reaches because that does look way cleaner than the way I had it hooked up.
Thanks mate, very helpful. I will be following you from nz, all the best.
Such a freaking helpful video!
How? What is he even doing it’s a camera why is he plugging it in via quantum splicing
Thanks for the video. Please also read the comments that warn you not to obstruct the air bag if fitted in the pillar, also it does matter which way around you plug the tap connector into the fuse board. Don't choose an important fuse to piggyback on. Lastly if you use an empty fuse position only use a fuse for your new accessory, don't have a 2nd fuse.
wow, thats great, you make it looks so simple
Super clean broski
Your intro is so fire. It seems to fit your personality in your uploads. You have a serious and informative tone in your voice, so that splash of levity meshes so well! I have a B5.5 1.8 FWD Passat wagon and I’m loving it so far! Keep up the 🔥 content! PA sub!
Mikey Barker Well put! I agree completely, I didn't even realise how good of a voice he has for this stuff.
Dang! Between the cell phone mount and the dash cam you could miss a Semi Truck in that obstruction in your view.
This video is brillant!! Well done great sir!!! Awesome
Great Video but you missed 2 major errors
1. The air bag
2. The tape band cut will make a sharper end that will cut other wires
Awesome video I learned something new
Great video. I am a little confused about the fuses but I am a 75 y..o. Female. Loved your video though as there was no BSing, just right to the point, quick and clean. Want to buy one for a friend for Christmas.
Thanks, good installation and good cam quality
Just as an FYI. Craft stores sell self-adhesive felt sheets. With a small razor, you can cut strips of felt to fold around wires and stick to itself. This will keep wires from making noise against the dash due to vibrations.
Thank you! Great demonstration.
Great tutorial thanks and hello from the Uk 🇬🇧
easy to understand, clear and concise. I'm probably just going to dangle my wire into the lighter opening however. I noticed some reviews talk about covering the air bag, which sounds horrifying but its probably no big deal.
Your airbag goes off with that much force that it’s just gonna rip your dashcam down and throw it about. If you get in an accident your dashcam being reusable is gonna be the least of your worries. So yeah, could avoid it but in reality it really doesn’t matter
Thanks so much for this . Really helpful great video
excellent dude. very well done. Thanks
Really helpful video, thank you.
Top tip if you are using a front and rear camera when you have digital radio like here in Europe. Throw three or more ferrite magnets around the cables that go along the side and roof to stop you radio not working when the dash cam is on. All dash cam power signals will interfere with the DAB radio antennas in your car unless shielded by ferrite magnets.
Thank you for the tip
What about parking protection? If the camera keeps losing power, will the time and date still be accurate?
Amazing video. Thanks man
That fuse tap can be installed backwards causing two circuit loads to be powered from the main fuse. This can be bad depending on how much load is placed on the circuit
This was a awesome tutorial.
Thanks, good job!
Man when I couldn’t hide the wire with my fingers I had a crazy idea n I got a spoon to help me n it worked believe it or not and this video help thank u
A MOST EXCELLENT VIDEO.
nice and simple thanks man
Super clean. I’d like to see cars come out with a power source input to the rear view mirror 😜
Thanks dude for this great video, love...
Nice and clean work.
Will the wire block the side air bag? It looks like you didn't secure it behind it. But when your car is off the g sensor will not be working
block idk, affect it one way or another, yes
This is a great one.
Very informative man. I just did this myself after watching. 👍🏻
great video dude thanks.
Good, to the point, how-to video! Thanks!
Great well thought out video well presented and easy to follow 👍. How about fitting a rear camera if possible .
And this is why we get people like you who know what they're doing to do it lol I lost you after taking off the weather sheild lol
Excellent video, thanks
Great video. Thank you
Good video, but did you run your A-pillar cables over the top of your curtain airbags?
Very good video, job well done.
Good detail! Thank you!!!
Very well done.
Great video. Well done.
Big help thanks bro
You need to check what side of the fuse is the feed as the fuses you use in your tap will not cover both legs so if your hot feed is fed to the wrong side of your tap fuses the fuses are of no use.
Please cover Dash Cam interfering with radio reception and possible solutions such as Ferret Cores and others...
C do the same thing with an 12v electric out and hide cable under the carpet and in the windshield pillar. If I where you, I choosen a permanent 12v out to run the dashcam permanently for car surveillance or aut-on in case of shock
wow thought it was gonna be complicated but it's super simple
Well done!
It looks really safe to hang those wires over airbag.
I noticed that.. my car has side airbag also. I did not risk hiding wires over those air bag..
Won’t matter air bag will destroy it anyways
@@ryans413 airbag could snap the wire and shoot it into your eyeball tho. Physics in car accidents are insane and almost unpredictable
@@UkuleleLove14 and can electrocute you at the same time
@@Ram-rm2gz 12 volts won’t do much

by doing so did not you disturb the airbag? sorry I am not car savvy. reply would be much appreciated
Is it permissible to have the cam wired to a fuse that will continually run ie like my console charger port, or maybe a free auxiliary fuse? I like for my dash cam to run even when my car isn’t.
I had no idea it was so easy to peel a car... 10/10 video.
Do these hard wiring kit come with the I guess "Other fuse"? If not, what type of other fuse goes in with the original fuse?
great video- thanks!
Excellent video thanks
Looking to get this after a oncoming trucker moved 2 or 3 feet into my lane beeping and flashing his lights, then swerving back in his lane just before passing me, he was trying to warn me or something, I still can't understand a sick move to do that. But wish I had a video of it.
