@@warrenbridges1891 and moods. Every album has its own personality. In the 80s I didn’t have cable or satellite TV, I just didn’t watch TV often enough after leaving home to want to pay for it. As a result, I didn’t see things like MTV or VH1 very much unless I was at someone else’s house. But I will say I did really like the artwork on her album covers. But over the course of her album releases I mainly just heard her songs. And I’m glad because her songs often have that amazing ability to touch me at an emotional and subliminal level of my own. I’ll see the videos on UA-cam and often I find myself not that interested in watching what she came up with to accompany her music. There are a few exceptions, like Wow. But for the most part, the music, the images and feelings they evoke are more than enough for me. For instance, Blow Away when I heard it called up memories from when I was around six and the feelings I had then when I was that age. I don’t know why. Moments of Pleasure leave me with a more valedictory sense of looking back over my life with a sad mellow feeling of nostalgia.

Cannot say enough good things about this incredibly talented woman. Have loved Kate Bush for over 30 years. She just can’t be imitated, a one off. Dig deeper, you won’t be disappointed Jay. 💖
U are not alone. This song intensifies whatever feelings you have at the moment. Could be super sad if you are sad ..don't try as I almost killed myself.
Her voice is angelic, soul piercing, and pure emotional greatness. I have listened to this song many times since it came out, and it never fails to make me emotional. It's not everyone that has that ability, but she sure does with this one.
It’s music I like to listen to alone. It’s so personal, as though she knows your inner life and your secrets. Reminds me of being a teenager and trying to find out who I was, or who I wanted to be. Still gives me that feeling.
Kate Bush is in a league of her own. There is literally nobody like her. She blazes her own unique trail. Her songwriting and music follow no trends or fashions. She just writes what she feels and that is what makes her a great artist. She writes the music, the lyrics, she is and excellent dancer (or at least she used to in dance in her videos) She is a complete artistic soul, much like the late, great David Bowie.
I listen Maxwell' s cover : he' s a great singer and he sing this song with intensity and respect..Kate' s version to me is on another level ..she touchs deep chords of the soul..thank you Jay..
With all due respect to your valid opinion, I was actually surprised at myself for how much I Disliked Maxwell's interpretation. After typing what I just wrote above I went back and Truly watched and paid attention to his version of her song. First: I have to say that man has a set of pipes on him! What talent!! I think what turned me off about him is that he deviated from the original too much, and with that he left out a lot of key emotion. I say this as someone who found this song as a 16 yr old back in 1988, which was an emotional period in my life and this song had a massive impact. Looking at it again with an objective heart today, I will say that it is good- but to truly experience the true depth of the soul of the song, Kate's version is exactly the way it was intended. I've heard many other attempts however, and I agree that his is the best of the covers.
@@combatgirl38 I much prefer Maxwell's version. I love the changes as Kate's version doesn't come from a guy's POV to me. Specifically how maxwell's changes at the end express the male POV in desperate to helpless to a willingness to change and do. Objectively the last minute of Maxwell's version is better in terms of musicality. I believe the reason is one is meant for a movie (hence the drop and vocal's not being a prevalent) and I do like it but objectively it could do with changes. I do prefer kate as an artist though so its tough.
Kate Bush is a real one off. She was only 19 when she appeared on the scene with Wuthering Heights - talented but seemingly fully formed as an artist with maturity at such a young age.Extraordinary woman.
"Running up that hill", "Cloudbusting" and "Don't give up" together with Peter Gabriel, "Wuthering heights", "Babooshka" and "Hello Earth", an absolute masterpiece.
Man, I LOVED your reaction. So great. This one really shows off her vocal ability. And her piano work is awesome too. Lots of people think this is a Maxwell song, and he did a great version of it, but she wrote it and performed it first. It's about giving birth, and about what the father goes through while the mother is giving birth.
You are such an insightful young man. So beautiful as very personal, written by Kate "the lyric of "This Woman's Work" is about being forced to confront an unexpected and frightening crisis during the normal event of childbirth". Childbirth for a woman can be so wonderful, but scary at the same time and that is without anything going wrong, and going wrong happens more than people like to admit.
Kate is an actual living legend.. poet...story teller.. modern day scribe... 200 years from now her back catalogue will be as relevent to that time period in future as their science papers.
Kate is the greatest female musician the United Kingdom has ever produced. She's a one-of-a-kind artistic genius and there will never be another like her. No only did she write the song, she plays the piano and sings all background vocals.
Actually when you watch "This woman's work" music video Kate is with her loved one having dinner and all of a sudden she collapses, then they are in the hospital and she seems to be very ill "touch and go" for a bit and she comes outside her body and is observing and watching her loved one "heartbreak" thinking he is losing her. She is saying the words in this song to him as she follows him around and in the waiting room. Then he gets the news she is going to make it. This is Kate's "Original song" she wrote and sang it...no Kate never gets much credit or praise for anything in the "Pop world" but to most of us that love Kate we KNOW her true talent, in singing, writing, producing, dancing and original music video's..
Just goes to show how much power Molly had, unfortunately he''d gone off her by then and for someone who hasn't toured she was a bit lost for me too I didn't get this album until after Hounds of love
What makes Kate Bush one of female greatest music artist. She wrote, played piano, sang, choreographed all of her songs. She has a huge backlog of music all 100% hers.

Kate the Great. Wrote the music and lyrics, played the piano, sang all lead and background vocals, and directed the accompanying music video. She's a genius.
Thanks, man, lovely reaction. Can I just add that Kate is a supremely talented (and very beautiful) singer and songwriter. She is a bit reclusive in real life, in that she doesn't seek fame or attention, but she is very active in the local community, where I was lucky enough to make her acquaintance some years ago and want to say that she is just a beautiful soul, just how you hope that someone who sounds like that would be. In the UK, Kate is, quite rightly, considered a national treasure.
This is my first time hearing Kate Bush too. Now I'm hooked. I heard it also from Maxwell and mainly just the hook at the beginning of the song. Was great to go on this discovery journey with you J; your responses genuinely mirrored my own.
Kate Bush is one of the finest vocalists in the planet, this song makes me feel everything all at once and guaranteed to make me cry without knowing why, I envy you for hearing it in its entirety for the first time ❤️
Yes that’s what’s always amazed and drawn me to her music. Many of her songs, like Blow Away, take me inside myself below consciousness to experiences of feelings and nostalgia for things experienced long ago, some to when I was young child.
She sounds amazing singing A woman's work, live too - It's always been my favourite of hers. This and with Peter Gabriel, Don't give up. She's such a true artist!
Kate Bush…superb, inspirational, innovative, amazing and simply a genius. Never heard of Maxwell and his version, this is Kate’s song and is iconic and has been for all these years. I’m old now but love her still, I’m so glad you’ve found it.
Kate Bush. True artist and that is a true rarity. She took an 8 year break to bring up her son and came back with an album (Aerial) that I believe is one of the greatest ever written. She’s a solid gold blessing and a constant inspiration to anyone with an appreciation for uncompromising and unbridled individual artistry. Incredible woman.
Hi Jay I'm so proud of you!! To see how much you have grown and to see how open & eclectic now Kate has such a wonderful song writing backlog unbelievable 💜💙💚💛🧡❤and there's so much more,💜💙💚💛
I remember reading a fans detailed breakdown of why Maxwell wrote this song in the comments under a youtube of Maxwells cover, the first reply pointed out the glaring error.
Well that's partly because Kate never had a US breakthrough and eventually the US got Tori Amos who . . . well . . . mimicked Kate bush's vocals semi-often and replicated dozens of specific photos in similar clothing, similar poses, doing similar things in similar places. . . So Tori kind of filled the US's slot for an unusual female artist at the time also she was super British
@@iTeacupPanda Tori Amos arrived almost 15 years later, so she also had the kindness of an era that accepted creative, independent female artists who didn't have to apologize for being women or work and create under the shadow of a male 'partner' so that pop music fans would listen. But this was EXACTLY what the mid and late 70s were like. Virtually every female artist had to collaborate with men. ABBA, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, The Carpenters, Sonny and Cher, Captain and Tenille, Donny and Marie, Ike and Tina..the list goes on... North Americans just didn't take women seriously as songwriters back then. Joni Mitchell and Carol King stood alone.
There is not a single moment when I listen to this song that I do not get a lump in my throat at minimum - it usually ends with tears rolling slowly down my cheeks. Kate Bush is truly an amazing person, I have been a fan since the first release of Running Up the Hill when I was in my early teens - I too wish she toured more, but I am not really sure I would have even had the chance to see her then. I wish she would release a video of her last concert - from the fan shots I have seen it looks like it was truly epic (like we would expect anything else).
Congratulations on discovering our Kate! She was, is, and perhaps always will be, light-years ahead of her time. She is the shining light for those of us who grew up listening to her; as is the case with many others since. She’s the ‘Genie’ in genius - sheer magic! Go to it, and play many more of her compositions - you are in for a treat and a half! Respect!
J, Kate wrote and recorded song in 1988, used in a movie She's Having a Baby (1988). Released as a single 1989. She only had 4 singles charted in the US. "Running Up That Hill" reached #30. She did much better in the UK, Australia, and a few other countries.
I personally fell in love with his song when I first heard this song in the 80’s, in the UK she was a true star then, this womans voice was a force of nature, she was ahead of her time, to say she came out in the late 70’s you would loved it or hated it, but it stood the test of time, it’s been covered by a number of artists, maxwell being one of them and I liked his version as well by Kate Bush will all ways be my go to artist, 👏👏🙏🏼🙌🙌👍👍❤️❤️

Jovaughn: Nobody’s rushing you. Most of us would sit here for hours to listen and see you. Too bad you’re not on for 8 hours! You’re that good and real!
In 1978 I was 8 years old , growing up in New Zealand. I first heard Kate Bush with *Wuthering Heights* a huge number one in the charts. It was beautifully melancholic and a hauntingly romantic song with terrific accompanying music. This bloke encapsulates that very first feeling with soulful sincerity
Lyrics: [Verse 1] Pray God you can cope I stand outside this woman's work This woman's world Ooh, it's hard on the man Now his part is over Now starts the craft of the father [Pre-Chorus] I know you have a little life in you yet I know you have a lot of strength left I know you have a little life in you yet I know you have a lot of strength left [Chorus 1] I should be crying, but I just can't let it show I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking Of all the things I should've said That I never said All the things we should've done That we never did All the things I should've given But I didn't Oh, darling, make it go Make it go away [Verse 2] Give me these moments back Give them back to me Give me that little kiss Give me your hand [Pre-Chorus] I know you have a little life in you yet I know you have a lot of strength left I know you have a little life in you yet I know you have a lot of strength left [Chorus 2] I should be crying, but I just can't let it show I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking Of all the things we should've said That were never said All the things we should've done That we never did All the things that you needed from me All the things that you wanted for me All the things that I should've given but I didn't Oh, darling, make it go away Just make it go away now
I believe 'This Woman's Work' was a song about complications during childbirth from the mans point of view, encouraging his wife that she's strong and can pull through and the fears and thoughts running through his head, fears of fatherhood, remembering better days gone and fearing he may lose her. I think the music video helps to put the song in better context. A lot of her songs have very deep meaning to them, she really is a gem of an artist.
The video definitely leads to this interpretation, and Kate often takes on personas when she sings. My belief prior to seeing the video was that it was about post-partem depression, and what women go through when they face changes to their lives and roles when thrust into motherhood. I interpreted it as she felt estranged the woman's work and world, and her husband was going to have to take up the slack for awhile. She's telling herself that she has strength and life left in her, but she still wants the situation to just go away. I think that either interpretation works, but the video definitely points to the the song being from the husband's POV.
@@kylelooper2156 I think that’s a really good point, I know a lot of Kate’s music is often open to different interpretations and I think she probably does that intentionally. Interestingly, this song was originally written for the film “She’s Having a Baby”, the music video is a bit of a re-telling in the scene which this song is featured. The husband imagines better days while waiting anxiously in the waiting room, imagines she may have died then finally gets a visit from the nurse telling him the true outcome. A quote from Kate… "That's the sequence I have to write the songs about and it's really very moving, him in the waiting room, having flashbacks of his wife and him going for walks, decoration. It's exploring his sadness and guilt, suddenly it's the point where he has to grow up. He'd been such a wally up to this point.” But I think her music always has room for other interpretations too!
Kate Bush. Instantly recognisable, mildly eccentric and totally unique. Her songs are challenging, inventive, passionate, heart-achingly soulful, with cultural influences from around the World. Technically, their chord changes are often unexpected, the rhythms infectious, and her voice is spectacularly clear and confident. I don't believe she has EVER made a bad album, although we'll each have our favourites. But they're ALL lots of fun.
This is what I expect Heaven to sound like, beautiful angels singing sweet harmonies. You must check out Running Up That Hill, Hounds Of Love and of course her duet with Peter Gabriel Don't Give Up. I promise you will love all 3

And yet she wrote so many. That’s the wonder. Listen to the Ninth Wave, a suite of songs, from the Hounds of love.
@@rjpender70 This and "Moments Of Pleasure"
@@alexrafe2590 .....and I've never seen anyone switch genres like her. Nothing holds Kate back.
Kate lost her mother during this time. It shows. The most vulnerable performance ever. I adore her❤️❤️❤️
That was Moments Of Pleasure - her mum died in 1992
@@modifiedcontent yes, but she’s said her mum’s illness contributed to it, not the theme but the emotion. I think The Fog was also about her father. Isn’t she awesome?
Cannot say enough good things about this incredibly talented woman. Have loved Kate Bush for over 30 years. She just can’t be imitated, a one off. Dig deeper, you won’t be disappointed Jay. 💖
ditto! love her. and most of my friends from back in the day are also fans.
big fan here. Brilliant, loved hounds of love. Just brilliant.
Every time I hear this song tears come bursting out of my eyes, out of nothing, yes, I'm so sensitive.
Here's your friend
me too , the tears cant stop
Pure raw humanity will do that to you. I do the same for Sampson by Regina Spektor.
Now just watch the last 5 minutes of Reservoir Dogs while listening to This woman’s work and see if you still tear up.
U are not alone. This song intensifies whatever feelings you have at the moment. Could be super sad if you are sad ..don't try as I almost killed myself.
Literally one of the most powerful pieces by Kate Bush. 100% masterpiece!
"Was this her song all along?" Me nodding knowingly because this song broke me in 1988.😭
Kate can sing over 8 octaves. Shes technically brilliant, songwriting genius.
😂 I'd love to hear that fact
Yeah thats not true. She has 4 tops you can tell by listening.
I can sing over 8 octaves too. Mind you they're all the same ovtave.
Don't be daft. xx
Not true , she has 4 at a push
Another of Kate's great songs is "The Man With The Child In His Eyes". (Xmas 1979 special)
Wonderful suggestion!
Yes, please! Love this song! ❤
Agreed, I ADORE that song!
oohh ilovethatsong
One of my favorites!!!
Her voice is angelic, soul piercing, and pure emotional greatness. I have listened to this song many times since it came out, and it never fails to make me emotional. It's not everyone that has that ability, but she sure does with this one.
Same! Thanks for putting it into words!
Deep love, and deep regret, powerful feelings.
Well said... God its a beautiful song.
She is ethereal. Her heart is just almost there to touch.
factual
That’s a great comment, that’s it, She’s really there, no cliches, the true beautiful naked voice of another human soul.
It’s not Kate Bush’s ‘version’. She wrote and did the original. Maxwell has a version - ‘cover’ as you state.
@@alScotlandi i know . Anyway, thank you for clarifing my information
Kate is really good but prefer maxwell version
She has such a sweet cry to her voice brings tears to my eyes. 🕊😥🕊

Kate Bush is a real one off. She was only 19 when she appeared on the scene with Wuthering Heights - talented but seemingly fully formed as an artist with maturity at such a young age.Extraordinary woman.
Loved this woman since is was 16, i am a heavy rock fan but Kate Bush, no one sings as pure as she does, her songs are performances, not just lyrics
"Running up that hill", "Cloudbusting" and "Don't give up" together with Peter Gabriel, "Wuthering heights", "Babooshka" and "Hello Earth", an absolute masterpiece.
Army Dreamers, Rocket’s Tail, Hounds of Love, her catalog is amazing - AND SHE WROTE THEM, too!
Warm & Soothing, Hammer Horror, Under the Ivy, Wow, Army Dreamers, Rubbermaid Girl, And So Is Love, Handsome Cabin Boy, My Lagan Love
The Sensual World is cool too.
Also, this one (Jovaughn's reaction) really shows off his ability to tap into his emotions. Your empathy is awesome.
Thanks for getting that right. I believe the song was written for the movie, "She's Having a Baby".
And (drum roll)... here's that scene from the movie "She's Having A Baby" ua-cam.com/video/9MZWrEfB_VM/v-deo.html&ab_channel=amorim1

Kate is an absolute gift to the world, I love her so so much
Kate is an actual living legend.. poet...story teller.. modern day scribe... 200 years from now her back catalogue will be as relevent to that time period in future as their science papers.
this was a hit song with her fans but not the kind you'd hear on the radio or anywhere. She's nothing less than amazing. Her own sound.
She's one of the best things to have happened in music.
Kate is the greatest female musician the United Kingdom has ever produced. She's a one-of-a-kind artistic genius and there will never be another like her. No only did she write the song, she plays the piano and sings all background vocals.
* The world has ever produced
This is one hell of a sad but beautiful song,, I'm a 52 year old man and this always brings a tear to my eye
She is a rare talent. Singer ,songwriter, producer ,pianist, arranger . Also her videos are legendary. Get into her 👏🏽👏🏽
That moment when someone comprehends the genius that is Kate Bush.. You really need to listen to 'dream of sheep'. It's sublime.
This song was part of the movie “She’s Having a Baby”, with Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern.

Kate the Great. Wrote the music and lyrics, played the piano, sang all lead and background vocals, and directed the accompanying music video. She's a genius.
She's in a leugue of her own, like David Bowie !
thank you!

Aerial is still one of my favorites of hers. Came out when I was in college and listened to it walking around campus all the time
Hi Jay I'm so proud of you!! To see how much you have grown and to see how open & eclectic now Kate has such a wonderful song writing backlog unbelievable 💜💙💚💛🧡❤and there's so much more,💜💙💚💛
Maxwell covered this song and everyone thought he wrote it. I think he did a beautiful job of it though.
@Honesty First He spoke about it in an interview back then. What else should he have done?
Best Male with best female
There is not a single moment when I listen to this song that I do not get a lump in my throat at minimum - it usually ends with tears rolling slowly down my cheeks. Kate Bush is truly an amazing person, I have been a fan since the first release of Running Up the Hill when I was in my early teens - I too wish she toured more, but I am not really sure I would have even had the chance to see her then. I wish she would release a video of her last concert - from the fan shots I have seen it looks like it was truly epic (like we would expect anything else).
After I watched your reaction I went and watched the video version of this song and now I am sitting here crying my eyes out. Phew.
She wrote it for that specific scene in that specific movie, making this a song for hire, which is even harder to write than a song for yourself.
She was huge in Australia. We love Kate
The pain she expresses in this song breaks me every time.
This performance reaches deep down inside me, I can't explain how this makes me feel, such an absolute talent Kate Bush is one of a kind no ifs or buts or maybe's.
Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Pray God you can cope
I stand outside this woman's work
This woman's world
Ooh, it's hard on the man
Now his part is over
Now starts the craft of the father
[Pre-Chorus]
I know you have a little life in you yet
I know you have a lot of strength left
I know you have a little life in you yet
I know you have a lot of strength left
[Chorus 1]
I should be crying, but I just can't let it show
I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking
Of all the things I should've said
That I never said
All the things we should've done
That we never did
All the things I should've given
But I didn't
Oh, darling, make it go
Make it go away
[Verse 2]
Give me these moments back
Give them back to me
Give me that little kiss
Give me your hand
[Pre-Chorus]
I know you have a little life in you yet
I know you have a lot of strength left
I know you have a little life in you yet
I know you have a lot of strength left
[Chorus 2]
I should be crying, but I just can't let it show
I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking
Of all the things we should've said
That were never said
All the things we should've done
That we never did
All the things that you needed from me
All the things that you wanted for me
All the things that I should've given but I didn't
Oh, darling, make it go away
Just make it go away now
She's a treasure from out of left field . Never compromised her art for the music industry.
Kate Bush is one of my all time favourite artists. She has created so many fabulous tracks🥰
This song was used to stunning effect in The Handmaid's Tale, right during the hanging scene.
Was a perfect fit. Such a moving scene.
A quote from Kate…
"That's the sequence I have to write the songs about and it's really very moving, him in the waiting room, having flashbacks of his wife and him going for walks, decoration. It's exploring his sadness and guilt, suddenly it's the point where he has to grow up. He'd been such a wally up to this point.”
But I think her music always has room for other interpretations too!
She has an incredibly emotive voice. It will bring something out off you
Its about childbirth, snd the husband feels helpless while he watches her doing "this woman's work."
It's hard to define Kate Bush, to me she's the female Bowie - they could be whatever they wanted to be.
@@glyjack True, Glyn. Unfortunately she never wanted to be round my place on a Friday night... or any other night, either.
