Kate Bush is a genius. She’s written hundreds of very poetic and beautiful songs. There’s nobody like her. Maybe next “ don’t give up” , it’s a duet with Peter Gabriel. “Wuthering heights” is probably one of her best, but you have to get used to her voice a little bit.

Kate was approached to write a song for the John Hughes film She's Having A Baby and it's written from the perspective of the man while his wife and unborn child's lives hang in the balance in hospital, reflecting on their lives together. Kate often writes from a completely different perspective to her own, she writes, performs and produces all her own stuff and you definitely explore her work, she is a genius, a cult artist in America, being British and not a fan of touring or the fame game, she never toured America. She is still writing and recording but it's years between albums but well worth the wait!

Kate Bush is considered a genius. She writes all her own material, plus produces, arranges, classically trained piano as well as classically trained dancer. Kate Bush is the real deal. Loved in the UK , never made it in the USA , I feel sad for the USA. A unique and original song writer, a unique and original voice and more . And yes did write this song .of course , that's what Kate Bush does. She is not a manufactured music industry bimbo. A true artist, arguably in my view one of the most underrated artists of her time. Dive into that Rabbit hole. Thanks for the reactions I do enjoy:)

Thing is Kate never tried to make it in the USA, she is a VERY British artist, it would take a lot of dogged determination and luck to get any attention there. She would never have committed to the relentless touring it takes to break through in The States, her interest is in creating music not promoting it. The lure of stardom does not appeal to someone as creative and private as she is. She was content to let her records and videos do all the talking.

This song is all Kate Bush. Maxwell didn't write it. The song is about being forced to confront an unexpected crisis during childbirth, written from the male partner's point of view.
It was written for John Hughes movie She's Having a Baby.
That's why the guy in the video is frantically waiting in the hospital waiting room not knowing if his wife is dead or alive. He was kicked out of the delivery room when things went south. He's a desperate man in shock over what just happened and the lyrics are about his thoughts and fears

Please excuse the length of this comment, but I feel compelled to let you know how accomplished and revered Kate Bush is in the music world. It is a shame that Kate is not well known in America. But in the U.K, throughout Europe, Australia, and Japan, Kate is an icon. She is a true original and musical genius, there's just no one like her. By the time Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour discovered her at the age of 15, she had already written over 250 songs. A brilliant and innovative composer, lyricist, singer (with a 4-octave voice), pianist, dancer, mime, choreographer, record producer, video producer & director - she even helped develop the first cordless headset microphone that she used on tour in 1978. Hugely influential and HIGHLY respected by musicians worldwide, Kate was one of the first female musicians to take total production and artistic control over her work. She’s been a real pioneer for women in the music industry for the last 40 years. First woman to have a #1 self-written song in the UK charts. First woman to have an album debut at #1 (her third lp, “Never For Ever”). She has had 25 Top 40 singles, 10 albums on the Top 10 Albums Charts, nominated 13 times for British Phonographic Industry awards and 3 Grammy awards, an Ivor Novella Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music, and appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2013 for her honored services to music. In September of 2020 Kate was honored as a fellow of the prestigious Ivors Academy for songwriters and composers. She's one of the most respected artists and producers in the music industry. In 2014 she returned to the stage and sold out over 100,000 tickets in less than 15 minutes (a record for London's Hammersmith Apollo). Her 22 performances were highly acclaimed and she became the first woman to have 8 albums in the top 40 charts at the same time (third behind only Elvis and The Beatles).

Kate Bush was assigned to write a song for the scene in the movie She's Having A Baby. The scene was about a husband and a father to be waiting in the hospital waiting room after he was told that his wife is having complications with a bridged labor where the feet of the baby are coming out first. The husband is reminiscing on all of the good times he had with his wife and he's feeling uncertain and stressed about the outcome of his wife and their child. He's feeling regret for the things that he didn't do and say to her. The song is sung from the husband's point of view.

Next: Don't Give Up (with Peter Gabriel), Wow - Official Music Video - Version 1, and Running Up That Hill!

It's such a Hauntingly Beautiful Song, and Kate Bush has an Ethereal voice.
I'm not sure if you noticed in the video, the husband had been imaging a nurse coming to tell him that his wife's dead, but you need watch the face of the real nurse (at the very end, she's smiling at him...so it's good news he's getting). IMO, You really need to watch the movie "She's Having A Baby", to truly better understand the story being told in the song, and yes it's being told through a man's perspective. ❤😘
This song is about unexpected trials that can happen, when a woman's delivering a baby...which always makes me cry, because both of my childbirth's didn't go well, I ended up having both 3&5 weeks early, as emergency c-sections, which babies and I, almost died during both of them. This song brings up the fear that my husband went through...I ended up going through a hysterectomy at 27, less than a year after I had my last child. They are my miracles (I was told that I couldn't get pregnant, but I miraculously had 2👼, 6 years apart), they're both a blessing from God❣🙏✝️💝
    ❤ 🙏🏼 ✌

It was originally written for the soundtrack to a movie, ('She's having a Baby' I think it was) - after spending much of the movie seeing them falling out, or not communicating, and the relationship not in a good place, the woman has a medical emergency with her pregnancy and is rushed to hospital - this is the song that plays out as he waits in the hospital for news - medical staff running in and out and all the good memories of their relationship suddenly start playing through his mind. It's a beautiful scene, and this song was a huge part of what made it so good.

I love her catalog, and the way it changes over time.
Hounds of Love is perhaps her

Movie director John Hughes asked Kate if she would write a song for the climatic scene in his 1988 movie "She's Having A Baby" where the father, played by Kevin Bacon, has just learned that the lives of his wife and baby are in danger due to complications during delivery. Kate agreed and wrote the song from the viewpoint of the father who was helpless in the hospital waiting room fearing a tragedy and thinking about all the things he should have done and said. Kate said: "it's one of the quickest songs I've ever written. We had the piece of [movie] footage on video, so we plugged it up so that I could actually watch the monitor while I was sitting at the piano and I just wrote the song to these visuals. It was almost a matter of telling the story, and it was a lovely thing to do: I really enjoyed doing it."

Kate is a genius and a national treasure in the UK, she is totally unique. She is a true artist and has always maintained control over all aspects of her career, even from her beginnings when she was signed as a teenager. Her very early albums may need more acclimatising to, as her voice was quiet high and a little shrill, and not to everyone's taste, even Kate isn't keen on how she sounds on her breakthrough hit 'Wuthering Heights'. As she matured she developed much more range and subtlety, and has created a string of classic albums. Her lyrics can sometimes appear very mysterious and off the wall without a bit of research into the inspiration. Her videos are very creative, and she often encompassed dramatic dance moves, very theatrical is the best way to describe them. 'This woman's work' is unique for Kate, in that she was commissioned to write it for the film 'She's having a baby', they sent her the scene and it did inspire her, and for someone who usually takes her own time and often had gaps of many years between her albums, this track came about very quickly. The lyrics are actually from the point of view of a guy, Kate would rarely write from her own life, preferring to be like an actor inhabiting various characters be it male or female, and expressing things from their point of view. I'd recommend checking out anything from the 'Hounds of love' album, her most successful. Kate is a very British artist, and has never pushed for recognition in the USA. Even in Europe she has only ever done one tour, which was in the late 70's, but in 1994 she surprised everyone by doing 22 dates in London all at the same theatre. A DVD was hoped for by fans but never released, only a CD of the concerts. She is rarely seen in public and remains an enigmatic artist but adored by a huge faithful, and patient, core of fans who have embraced her idiosyncratic style.
