Hi Eric, I’m a college student at FIU and I’m interested in working in marketing. I just began learning about it a year ago and I'm still watching UA-cam videos to find out what areas are ideal for me and what I want to do. I’d love to connect and learn more about your work.
Hey! So glad you mentioned the “Marketing Engineer” role, I have a bachelor’s + master’s in Marketing and have spent the last 10 years in high tech companies, about to move in a “Marketing Technologist” role in a major FMCG company where my peers will all have a computer science degree as a base.
I think one of the most valuable skills a future marketer can learn is data analysis... I personally think market research firms are slowly going to fade as there is so much automation and tracking nowadays that puts the business in the drivers seat in terms of knowing their audience.

Great information thank you! I'm getting my bachelors in Business with a concentration in Digital Marketing I'm thinking of pursuing a Masters in Data Analytics or a Masters in Marketing.
Do you think a Masters is needed?
I'm currently a junior in college right now and I've done two internships with media agencies, one was only a month but I was able to learn a little bit of everything, and the other I did was 3 months of Paid Search and 3 months of Paid Social. I really want to go into marketing strategy because I feel like that's a combo of creativity and data, being able the formulate a specific strategy and message based on your target market and what channels are most profitable. That's why I've done these internships so I have a good knowledge of different channels before I jump into media planning which I'll be doing an internship in this summer. I've heard that starting out in media planning has the best growth potential but I wanted to get your input on this?
Great job! Learning through internships is great!
Everything that you understand has a great growth potential, according to me!

Great video! I’ve recently been promoted from an intern position and now they want me to choose what job title I want.
What do you think in terms of future prospect and career option as well as salary. Digital Marketing Exec or SEO & Content Marketing Exec?
Fantastic, congratulations on the promotion! Hmm. The best path is the one that you're going to feel more compelled to study and grow voluntarily in. You'll find a good salary in either direction - and if you learn management skills and leadership along the way you'll do extremely well for the long run!
I love working for free...I don't like working for cheap, and I don't like getting paid less for what I did. I prefer working for free instead. That way I learn and build relationships with people I work for!
As soon as you charge for your services, you're just another freelancer or employee for them. But working for free builds relationships!

Hey Eric,
This video was very informative and gives clear concept to the careers in marketing. I have a 2.5 years of experience into Inside & outside sales for selling digital technology trainings. Inside sales is something I love and hold expertise into.
However, I have decided to move into marketing career and will be starting my school soon. Do you have any suggestions for me as to what all are the career options for me into marketing looking at my past experience.
Thanks!
Hi Nidhi, This is great, having a background in sales will be a great strength for you. You'll understand some of the buyer psychology and will be able to bring that into your marketing career.
At the beginning, it might be a good idea to start with a general marketing focus, and as soon as you find the area you want to specialize in - whether it's SEO, content creation, or copywriting, etc - you'll want to get really good at that specialty while still growing your general marketing knowledge Congratulations! Fantastic, congratulations on going for the MBA - that is an accomplishment. Take advantage of any leadership training you can get - that will always go a long way. If you can learn copywriting, that will also help you have an edge in anything marketing related. I’ve been watching so many marketing videos as of late. I’m a current biology pre-med freshman and have been realizing learning about science is just a hobby for me and not really a passion. I wrote down a loooong time ago that if biology didn’t work out I’d choose to major in marketing. It’s only been 5.5 weeks since school started and I didn’t think I’d change my mind this quick, but I’m so excited! I plan on double majoring in Marketing & Finance/Accounting (it’s a dual major in itself so it counts as 1) because I love all 3 aspects and all of the classes overlap except a couple of electives. I also don’t want to just be limited to marketing jobs even though I like marketing. Thank you so much for this video!💕

I am international student and my English is Not perfect for communication, so do you think this point is an obstacle for my improvements?? How much is this important? I am a mom of two kids. Can I? What personality needs this job?
Congratulations on taking the leap into marketing and working hard to continue your education! It's also very inspiring to hear that you're overcoming the language obstacle to aim for management. You will definitely have to work really hard, but you can do it. Always keep a beginner's mindset - study leadership, study management, practice your technical skills and communication - and you will be surprised at how far you can go.

Marketing manager
I'm currently a Paid Search Specialist, how do you transition over to the higher paying marketing roles?
This video and all of yours are very informative and helpful. I'm a marketing major looking for a future job in social media marketing. I would love to sit and have a chat one day to talk more about the different branches and opportunities in marketing.
Thank you for watching my videos!
Great video, I often have my supply chain students ask me if
they should double major or pick up a minor (i.e., Marketing). Here is what I tell them. Marketing majors, I would also consider a SCM major or minor...it is the world we live in.
I get this question often, should I pick up another major with
my SCM major and/or pick up a minor, and if so which one? I assume you are doing a SCM major to get a
SCM entry level managerial position. Basically, that means you want the degree
to get a job in SCM, right? OK, so the
answer to your question is will the other major or minor compliment your SCM
degree? In other words, will it provide
you with additional skill sets valued in SCM roles and jobs? I am a huge fan of our Business Analytics
minor because SCM jobs require using technology. For example, most SCM jobs have huge amounts
of data and you have to make sense of that data (so big data, data analytics,
Excel, etc.). Also, you have to not only
use the hundreds of thousands of lines of data to make decisions, you have to
visualize the data for other SCM managers to buy into your decisions (Power BI,
Tableau, etc.). And sometimes, you have
to change the code in the technology to get it to do what you want it to do
(Python). Without that Business
Analytics minor you would not be able to do those things. So, the BA minor
compliments the SCM degree.
You asked about double majoring in Marketing and SCM. I love
it. In fact, at WMU we have a Food
Marketing & Consumer Products/Packaging degree, we call it FMK (the best in
the world). The FMK industry is one of
the largest and most important industries in the world. During Covid 19, it flourished and saved the
world in many ways because its supply chain just kept on working. In fact, what was the most popular term
during Covid 19? Supply Chain. Look at what industries and jobs flourished during
covid 19 (i.e., consumer products/food and supply chain management). I actually had students interview and get job
offers during covid 19! OK, back to your
question. Does Marketing compliment a
SCM degree and job role? Yes, especially
lately. Most SCM professionals are
tasked with doing things better , faster, and cheaper. They often have to work on creating cost
savings with their suppliers. Why? Reducing costs is the same as making more
money. This is especially true of
companies that struggle to gain market share because markets are too
saturated. However, there are lots of
companies in growth industries that not only want to cut costs but they want to
grow market share (i.e., technology, consumer products, medical equipment,
healthcare, etc.).
So, for example, Stryker is a Fortune 500 company in
Kalamazoo, MI that designs and builds medical equipment. It is in a growth industry and Stryker is
obsessed with growth and market share (they double in size every 5-10 years). A hospital system comes to Stryker and says I
really need this kind of product but no one makes it. Stryker says, how much would you be willing
to pay for this product? The hospital
system says, if you can design and build it to do what I want, I would pay you
$10,000 for each and buy X amount annually for the next several years. Stryker then goes back to its SCM group and
says, reverse market this product. That
means, go to our suppliers and engineers and figure out how to make this darn
thing for $40, so we can sell it for $100.
That is called reverse marketing and/or reverse supply chain
management. In fact, Marketing is asking
their SCM group to help them sell more of their stuff that makes them a lot of
money. In other words, SCM, can you help
us not only cut costs, but also help us sell stuff. In other words, help support our growth strategy. And growth strategy is Marketing. So, yes,
Marketing and SCM are blending in ways which would really support you double
majoring in both.
Another example, the data proves that companies which can
get products into the marketplace faster and before the competition not only
sell more stuff, they can charge higher prices (in other words, command better
margins and make more money - people are willing to pay a premium for stuff
that is newer - do I really need a new iPhone now? No, but I am willing to pay a premium for the
latest and greatest version). So, who
does Marketing ask for help with getting products into the market sooner and
faster? Yes, SCM. How can SCM help get
products into the market faster? Read
below if you want more details.
ESI = early supplier involvement and
CE = concurrent engineering, and
they mean the same thing. Before companies go into production with new
products, they have to design those products, it is called the new product
development process (NPD). Companies expect suppliers to do a lot of the
design work for the parts that will go into their new products. ESI and
CE is bringing suppliers on board during the
new product development process so suppliers and
companies can work on design issues from the beginning and
together. That way, when they go into production, there are fewer
issues. ESI and
CE gives companies a chance to do things
better, faster, and cheaper. Companies are
under competitive pressure to get through the new product development process
in record time so that they can get their products into the market sooner than
later. The ability to do this is called Time Based Competition
(TBC). ESI and
CE is driving TBC (along with technology and standardization). In the past,
companies (OEMs) would do all the design work and
just dump off blue prints to suppliers right before the product went into
production. Now, the OEMs expect their suppliers to do the design work and integrate these suppliers in the NPD
process from the beginning. Every decision and
investment dollar has to translate into helping companies do it better, faster,
and cheaper. If it does not, it is
non-value added (get rid of it). ESI
and CE
requires a lot of work and
investment, but data shows that it pays for itself very quickly. In other
words, it is very value-added.

Decided to drop a comment here. I'm still relatively young and planning on going back to college next year. I'm also leaning towards marketing as a career choice, and my interests at the moment are advertising and content creation. From what I understand from this video, these, like most jobs in marketing can start as low or average paying jobs but can all grow with time to very successful jobs. I just want to know where's the best way to learn about what these careers really tackle on a daily work basis, a good idea of the salary, and what's the best thing I can do now to prepare. Any help is very much appreciated.
Hey, OraNui! Great to hear you're interested in learning more about marketing. You can check out this video I made about marketing careers and let me know what you think. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/nYeYDPCv7ac/v-deo.html 😊
I still have to go to school and additionally i live alone. I want to be independent from my parents, therefore i have to gain money to become a digital nomad in the future.
Just recently I realized that marketing is everything and should be teached in school. But even with some knowledge, i dont know how to balance it with school...
Thanks for tuning in! You're off to a great start and you'll get there eventually. Just keep piling on the skills and knowledge - try to get some experience doing actual marketing and you'll be off to the races.
the way and the speed he speaks makes me wanna give up marketing career
oh man - you can't give up so easily! 💪
If someone talks fast, that usually means they really know what they are talking about - it comes easy and fast to fall off your tongue. Just think of a time you were really passionate about a subject, and you could talk so much about it
What are some good college classes that gives you a head start or experience
There are a lot of marketing and business classes in college being offered depending on which university you are in. Some of these classes require you to come up with a business plan in mind and others even require you to put up your own business before completing the class. If possible, get an internship where you're actually DOING marketing and you can put that on your resume.
Could you make a video but aimed at those of us who have not finished high school? Surely I am not the only one who despite my age, despite not having finished high school, being the head of the household, etc., is interested in being able to study as much as possible and is within my reach and why not improve my employability, having a better profile or with more opportunities. Maybe you could advise us what to study, that does not require a career and anyway it opens doors and gives us opportunities, maybe something for those who are good at math, something for those who are better in letters or are not so good with mathematics . I hope you keep it in mind for a next video.
Greetings.
Thank you for your suggestions! Will definitely keep this in mind 😉
Hi Eric, I have an interest in becoming a Marketing Strategist. I like understanding what makes people purchase a product vs another ad the psychology aspect of buying. Which type of Marketing job would you recommend? Is there a position that matches this interests? Thanks in advance!
-Rafael
Thanks for sharing about this, Rafael! I actually made another video about marketing careers, you can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/nYeYDPCv7ac/v-deo.html and let me know what you think 😊
I would say neuromarketing :)
Who is growth engineer and designer? Is the designer a graphic designer? Could you answer it briefly what they do?
A growth engineer and designer are like growth hackers where they focus on creating and testing new market growth programs.
i am in 9 grade in highschool cant wait to work in this ima make it
Excited for you 😃
I saw you had 3 packages, done for you, done with you and do it yourself. What are those about? Please make a video on that because i didn't saw any other agency using that model
For sure, thanks for the idea Punit! We'll look into doing a video on that in the future.
@@LevelingUpOfficial I would be eagerly waiting for it :)
Hi Eric, I have a degree in finance and marketing with a year in public accounting doing tax processing. I didn’t like that and think I may start down the marketing path. What are some good ways to get experience since I can’t meet requirements for most positions and internships are mostly for students.
First off, it's great that you're looking to make a career after realizing you're not happy where you're at now. That's exciting! Take a look at this video and let me know if this helps you out: ua-cam.com/video/nYeYDPCv7ac/v-deo.html
Hey Eric, just saw this video and needed help in how to be more appealing to employers. Currently i live in houston and i excel in creativity, i have experience in adobe creative suite programs, but im not really getting any calls back even submitting my portfolio. I will say my portfolio consists of a lot of things catered towards fashion design because that is my real passion in what i want to do, but i want a role where i can work in a creative marketing field where i can build my experience in that aspect. I guess you can say my portfolio doesnt really show what the employers are looking for but in my opinion i feel like if they wanted me to design this or that then i could, i just wouldn't know they want specifically. Anyways i just want to build my experience and then start doing what i want to do and was wondering if you could help me out thanks.
Hey Austin, thank you for sharing about this. I think that your plans in mind will work since you already know what you are passionate about and your goals are already set. Also, keep submitting your portfolio to several different companies, and show them what you've got. Go for it and let me know how it goes. 😊
Hey Eric! Any thoughts on digital marketing courses from coursera? I currently learn DM in udemy but im not sure if theyre good enough to get a job without experience
Sounds fantastic! Coursera is good and there's also lots of free content online, I'd suggest you check Hubspot and Google courses as well. Also, don't forget to keep up with this channel as well as our marketing school podcast to know more about marketing and business! 😄
What does SEO stand for? At first i thought i wanted to do something in sales/advertising but I’m also really attracted to digital marketing too. Eventually i may want to end up in market research. I find marketing fascinating and i think it is my niche in life, where I’m spose to be. It took many years and a lot of soul searching for me to figure it out but all my talents and everything i’m good at, especially writing/research - they all fall into marketing. I also like that you can make some decent money w/ just a bachelors degree.
If you go into marketing, is it good to also minor in graphic design? I see a lot of jobs out there that want this.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.
Knowledge in graphic design is useful in marketing, if you are interested in creating and designing graphics, then taking a minor in graphic design would be a good decision.
What roles can I do in marketing after doing a masters in management?
Great video by the way!!
Thank you for tuning in! You can aim for any kind of director position. Eventually maybe some kind of SVP of marketing or similar position.
Can you come to teach our Classes at my college! I am learning so much, and I only have watched 2 Videos!
Oh wow, thanks for the invite, we'll see! Glad I could help, let me know what other videos you'd like to see to help you along the way 😊
Great information on the marketing field! Thanks for the job advice 😎💎 Thanks for the amazing free content. If there’s anyway I can help let me know anyone ❤️😂
Oh absolutely, thank you for tuning in! It's great to hear that you enjoyed. Please feel free to share the content with your friends :) And let us know what else you'd like to see!
I’m a recent marketing graduate with a few digital marketing internships for experience. My goal is to be a marketing analyst. What are some next steps that would help me get into that position?
Step 1: go to the playlist on our channel called 'How to start a marketing career'
Step 2: enroll in the 6 figure academy program to land your dream job. 😉
Hey thank you for the video
I wanna start a creer as content marketing manager and work in Turkey. am originally from Afghanistan and we are moving there soon.
I have one question, is marketing a fun job in general?? I want a balanced work- life job.
Marketing is fun if you enjoy growing both strategically and creatively. If you like thinking outside the box, learning new things everyday, and constantly thinking of new ways to innovate things, then you'd find Marketing fun. 😃
Hey, I'm in first year of Mass Media (Bachelor). I want to know what is the scope marketing, public relations ans mass media in Canada? Can I do a master's degree in canada?
I would be really thankful if you could help.
I'm not too familiar with the system in Canada. Media is powerful, and there will always be plenty of jobs in the media field. As you continue on your journey, keep leveling up your skills and knowledge and you'll get more clear on your direction.
really need advice on which specialization to chose as 1 major and 2 minors : the options are paid ads, SEO, SMM, Content marketing and account manager. please help me which specialization is the best
Hey, Nakshatra! This depends on what your plans are in the future. What is your end goal? 😊
Interesting stuff
Thanks Matarena!
I don’t comment on youtube videos but this was really helpful
Thank you!
amazing video i'm only sixteen but i'm thinking about the future and career paths you've helped me a lot thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Hello! I recently got into my dream school but only for my second choice major which was Advertising. Since the school has one of the best Advertising programs in my area, it would really help me in my decision of whether or not to take the offer if you could give me an idea of what careers I’d expect as a Advertising major. Thanks so much!
Thank you for tuning in, and congratulations on getting into your school! There are so many avenues to go down in advertising. You can be a paid media specialist, maybe a creative director for an ad agency, you can do analysis and data science of ads, you could get into copywriting and create ads... the sky is the limit.
thank you for all the information. I saw one video and immediately subscribed to your channel for the content. I have a question. I completed my Masters in Software Engineering from Sweden. have no work experience. Currently I am in Canada and planning to shift my career to Marketing. Can you kindly suggest what course can I take to build my skills in marketing and how can I prepare myself to get an internship in marketing in Canada with no experience (education and work). Your respond means a lot to me. Thank you
Thank you so much for tuning in and sharing your comment! Absolutely, you can find an internship even with no experience. The best thing you can do is study as much as you possibly can about a skillset, then find a copmany you are interested in, and do some work for them. Maybe it's writing them an 8,000 word article they can post on their website that shows you know your stuff. If you deliver what they are looking for, they will be sure to hire you.
@@LevelingUpOfficial thank you:)
@@neetikapakki9996 you're welcome! 😊
I’m gonna be graduating from school with my masters in entertainment business what should I be going for?
That's fantastic! Congratulations! If you want to go into digital marketing for entertainment, there are plenty of positions that can lead to roles at companies like Netflix of Disney. What is your end goal?
Eric Siu - Leveling up Disney, Netflix, Nike, adidas anything in the entertainment side would be amazing! Idk if you’ve seen blackish I’d love to do dres job and work for a firm handling multiple accounts
Helpful video. Not too much info . Likeit
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Eric, I am very new to digital marketing and I'm looking to get into ecommerce. I just started reading up about it a year ago and watch you tube videos all the time trying to figure out what fields best suit me for what I want to accomplish. My main goal is to have my own stores where I can sell merchandise online for my hobbies and niches. There's a degree here at a local college addressed as computer informaion systems which provides students with the skills necessary to obtain a position in the specialties of web technologies, database design, game development, and programming, and Linux system management. Also you get to choose Ecommerce as a concentration at the end of your last semester. Will this degree help me land intern jobs as an SEO or Content Marketer ?
Thank you for tuning in! Good question, it sounds like a great program. You might actually look into getting a data science / data analysis internship as this is also a booming industry. Some basics of SEO can certainly be helpful.
@@LevelingUpOfficial that's like analysis of data right ? Ive looked at online digital marketing courses and alot of them specifically focus on multiple things and are a skill upgrade for the veteran entrepreneurs. I'm looking for a building block to start from scratch. Any schools you recommend for SPECIALIZING as an SEO or degrees to look into ?
How about marketing degree or economics? Think an associates is enough ?
