My paint racks are full of the paints I never use, whereas my paint desk and small table next to it are covered in paints that I actively use or think I'll probably use. It's more of a semi-structured mess than a mess. Oh all right then, it's a mess. I have too many paints, or my workspace is too small, or possibly both.

My collection is randomly placed in boxes in draws. Hopefully when I get back to painting I'll actually have a system as good as this one.
