Another great episode of the Monster's Den. Hope Jamie and Craig can be regular guests on the show. Excellent input and views from both of them. Thanks everyone!
''The more the merrier'' as regards the co-captains in the Monster's Den. A better cross section of taste and opinion can't be bad when the subject is horror. I'm always delighted when this show is over an hour long as I'm usually disappointed when Pete says ''So there you have it'' and I know it's about to end. Thank you lads, best show on S O T and in my mind that's a massive claim with all that good stuff.
So cool to see Jamie with that Hammer box set! I'm expecting mine to arrive next week and can't wait. I also recently brought another Hammer box set that has 4 films, Countess Dracula, Vampire Circus, Hands Of The Ripper & Twins Of Evil. They're all great to have on blu ray, and have tons of extras. I've been a Hammer film fan for many years, so I'm very excited😁
I bought 4k discs for about 5 years, but I recently stopped because I don't see enough of a difference between 4k and bluray to justify the price difference .
1. THE BOOGENS = Awesome! Saw it all the way back in '81. Another pay cable/Cinemax delight. Rebecca Balding will travel! Creepy good scares too. Sure we all laughed at the very end, but the first hour and 29 minutes is fantastic. Great suspense and excellent camera work. A Stephen King fave as well. 2. My wife and I just watched "DON'T GO IN THE HOUSE" (1980) this past weekend. Always have liked this film. The flamethrower scene is definitely a classic, but overall, it's a very good early 80s kinda take on Psycho/Ed Gein. Grimaldi's performance is excellent. Love the work with the animated corpses too! She's a grim flick, but worth your time. I've always liked TERRORVISION (1986) as well. Diane Franklin, with her wild multi-color hair (which would make Cyndi Lauper jealous) really "pops" as they say on Blu-ray. And her performance is wonderful. Gerrit Graham and Mary Woronov, of course, are both awesome as always. Overall it's a wacky, zany popcorn cult movie that defines the 80s obsession with "video". *And alert to Craig.. the movie involves a satellite dish 📡 (I actually thought you were going to hold up "Terrorvision" when you were talking about having just a satellite dish in the mid 80s) You didn't, but then, ironically, Pete holds it up later! By the way, to Pete...is the movie you were trying to think of "THE DEADLY SPAWN"? Well, I know there were a few others in here I wanted to comment on, but I can't recall what they were...I guess I got "The Olds" too. 😳
Looking forward to watching a bunch of the movies you guys talked about here particularly Malignant, as I've been meaning to watch that. Here's a list of some of the stuff I've watched recently that I'd recommend: -Perfect Blue: it's a Japanese anime, but it's essentially the original "Black Swan". It's a really good film! -Noroi The Curse: it's a found footage so I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea. Think Japan's version of Blair Witch and that's basically what you get here. -Crimson Peak: great gothic horror film, and it has Tom Hiddleston (Loki) in one of his earlier acting roles. -Boris Karloff, The Man Behind the Monster: great in depth documentary on the life of Boris Karloff. -All the Colours of Giallo: Pete's right, this is a must watch! -Host: this is a Shudder original and for what it's worth, it's pretty good. Again, it's found footage so if that's not your style, skip this film. -Opera: decent film, though I felt this was when Argento's film "prowess" was starting to slip up a bit as it's not as good as all the work that come before this film. Still pretty decent, none the less!
The Vinegar Syndrome release of Flesh For Frankenstein is incredible. Took the 3D round to a pal's who has the required set-up and it looks killer. Been watching a lot of Shaw Bros movies recently, can't recommend The Chinese Boxer and Crippled Avengers enough!

Have not watched Nobody yet, but I know I'll like it. Loved The Mandalorian, but have not watched Bobo Fett, or Peacemaker yet. I could go on blah, blah, blah, but I won't. You guys are great. Thank you Craig, Jamie, Chris, and Pete.
Pete mentioned watching lots of Giallo. In Deep Red when Marcus & Gianna enter the Leonardo Da Vinci State Middle School, in a quick cut we see "Kill Your Father and Mother" written on a bathroom wall. It was written by the killer, correct? What is the significance of that phrase within the context of the film's story? I wonder if the phrase is maybe a reference to the ending of Bava's 1971 film, A Bay of Blood? If it's not a deliberate reference, it's still a connection to that film. Any thoughts on this?
