I'm glad I can watch this on my TV again. After five days without power it just came back on less than an hour ago. Fuck you Milton! Long live the Squares!
Annihilator focused on touring almost exclusively in Europe. I saw them play Wacken Open Air a few times and Jeff would often host the Wacken Metal Battles.
They're all excellent albums, this should be a good show! I guess it's just a matter of personal taste, so I guess I'll have to pick my current favorites. 4. Exodus - Bonded by Blood 3. Overkill - Feel the Fire 2. Testament - The Legacy 1. Annihilator - Alice in Hell
Tonight on the Rock Fantasy Files, I got to be part of a group interview with Jarvis Leatherby, bassist/vocals for Night Demon, he's also plays bass for Cirith Ungol. He's a really cool dude
1. Testament 2. Annihilator 3. Overkill 4. Exodus If you like Legacy and New Order, you'll be sad to have missed the recent show since it's all songs off those 2 albums.
This was the like the rant series you used to do during the pandemic, but instead of Chris, we got Ralf, which I'm more than fine with! Great discussion, boys!
Damn, Annihilator getting all 4th places is kinda crazy. I do get it being hard to get into their discography as a whole with all the lineup changes and what not but that album rips. Testament and Annihilator are easy 1 and 2 for me.
1. Exodus 2. Annihilator 3. Testament 4. Overkill Testament is my favorite out of the 4 with Exodus a close second. But I just cannot rank Legacy above this awesome Annihilator album. I like Overkill but they are always going to be last for me if ranked against the other thrash heavyweights. I am a casual fan and I have seen them many times but I just never had the love for them that everybody else seems to have. In ‘89 annihilator opened for testament and my friend made me miss the openers so I am still pissed at him for that! There was a line going all the way around the block and we finally got in for the second Testament song!
1. The Legacy - "COTLOD" was one of the first really brutal thrash songs me and my buddy heard at age 14 on a metal radio show (back in the day, they used to do stuff like that!), we were hooked instantly and bought the album right away. And lo and behold, two months later Testament were the first REAL metal band we ever saw live, supporting Anthrax on their Among The Living tour. Sweet nostalgia! 2. Alice In Hell Super important album. It was "Album Of The Month" in both Metal Hammer and Rock Hard, so even though I never heard a single note of that band before, I had to buy that sizzler. The first song alone was worth every damn penny - killer arrangement, stunning guitar work, crushing production. So good! Saw 'em live a couple of times (always with different singers), once sandwiched between a band no one ever heard of before or after ("Panned Era", if I remember right) and the mighty Priest on their Painkiller tour. 03. Bonded By Blood Blame it on my youth, but I was always a Zetro guy. Your "Bonded" is my "Fabulous Disaster". "Deliver Us To Evil" is one helluva song, though. 04. Feel The Fire Same thing: I got into Overkill with "Taking Over", one of the best thrash albums ever. I bought "Feel The Fire" a couple of months later, and it didn't really deliver. It's like getting into Metallica with "Lightning" and then hearing "Kill" later (which I did).
I also saw the TestAmenT/Kreator/Possessed show. All 3 were fantastic. Before this tour was announced I had no idea Possessed were a thing since Jeff's near death experience. Speaking of, here's to a healthy recovery to Jake E. Lee after getting shot. Pull through, brother! Even though it was a co-headline show it felt so weird to me that final act TestAmenT's setlist was just over an hour (and that's with us singing Happy Birthday to Alex) while Kreator's was 1 1/2 hr. Still, another great show.
It's such a great bunch of classic thrash metal albums, I love them all honestly. 4) Have to go with Alice in Hell too. I'm not a big fan of Randy Rampage as a vocalist, but musically the album is great. I prefer their second album much more, it's my favourite by them, I love the singer Coburn Pharr, I think he was the perfect match for the band, but unfortunately they did only one album together. 3) The Legacy. My favourite album by the band, the second one is also fantastic, they always go as a pair for me. Great album, very melodic, guitar work is amazing. Chuck's voice is difinitely the highlight of the record and generally the best out of all these four participants. He also reminds me of James Hetfield on that record, especially when he sings with a clean voice (Alone in the Dark for example), you can tell they were big Metallica fans at that point of time. 2) Bonded by Blood. A perfect thrash metal album from start to finish, it's really nothing else to add here. It probably should be a winner in this exercise objectively speaking. I also don't mind Paul Baloff's vocals at all, I think they fit perfectly with the dirty and gritty sound of the album, more clean and professional style wouldn't have worked there. 1) Feel the Fire. A clear winner for me. Also my favourite by the band with Taking Over being slightly behind. I love everything about this album. The strong influence by the NWOBHM and punk scenes, the musical variety and diversity, dark and sinister atmosphere. Every track is a killer on this album, absolute masterpiece in my opinion.
Nice choice for a ranking video guys......my ranks off the top would be Testament, Overkill, Exodus then Annihilator.....These are all fantastic albums which any for me could be my favourite. I would love if you guys re visited this again with another 4 thrash debuts? Maybe the German big 4? Maybe a bunch like say Forbidden, Vio-Lence, Heathen, Sacred Reich, Atrophy......anyways cheers again fellas 🤘🤘🤘
Exodus for me by the proverbial country mile. My personal fave thrash album ever. I do like all 4 of these albums though for sure. 1. Exodus 2. Annihilator 3. Testament 4. Overkill
Mine are 1. Overkill. 2. Exodus. 3. Annihilator. 4. Testament. I've seen Overkill crush Testament, Anthrax, Megadeth, Kreator; Symphony-X & every other band they shared the stage with except Iron Maiden.
Haven’t watched yet and I’m sure my opinion isn’t popular but I enjoy the Annihilator album the most out of the 4. Annihilator Exodus Testament Overkill
Great pod as per. That's a tough 4 to order. All fantastic bands. 1 Testament (just a really important band for me) 2 Overkill (a hair behind - top band) 3 Exodus (love this album - always have) 4 Annihilator (band I have the least albums of from this 4 - still great)
Testament played COTLOD here in MN a couple weeks ago. They did not play Alone In The Dark or Burnt Offerings. They seemed to have subbed Alone In The Dark for COTLOD.
Of the 4 Over Kill is the one I missed growing up in Europe - Exodus would of the other 3 take top billing due to some great nostalgic nights- followed by Testament and the Anihilator bringing up the rear. I am off to catch up on some Over Kill
Love the vid - the Kreator chat was interesting as they are one of my son's fave thrash bands and he got into them off their last few albums. I think they are pretty popular here (UK) now based off their new stuff as much at least as their legacy Oh btw my list would be 4.Exodus, 3.Annihilator, 2.Testament and 1.Overkill (their debut is my fav of their catalogue)
Don't know if you guys knew that jeff waters actually did a few tour dates for savatage playing guitar for them..and I saw a interview with jeff where he was talking about Dave mustaine was wanting him to join megadeth I think it was before Marty Friedman. I highly recommend checking out more of there catalog
Noa... I loved the Legacy Demo:1 but I was disappointed by the Testament album. Never liked that perfectly produced thrash. It has to be raw and dirty.
Agree 100% with Ryan on the Exodus catalog, but if these four, it number one by far. Something with Overkill….saw them about 5 or 6 times between Fel el the Fire and Taking Over. I got a burn out on them and never really went back. Know that I must be missing a lot, but has that ever happened for anyone?
While these are not among my favorite metal albums, I would say I enjoy them more or less equally. However, if I had to rank them I'd go with: 4-Exodus 3-Overkill 2-Annihilator 1-Testament
Ryan, you mixed up two Overkill shows. The first show after the pandemic and the only one in 2021 was at Wellmont Theater, Montclair, NJ, USA on the 13th of November, 2021 and they opened with Last Man Standing from their 2019 album The Wings of War. Overkill opened with Wrecking Crew at The Chance, Poughkeepsie, NY, USA on the 3rd of March, 2022.
I told the story about my history with exodus, bonded by bloodyway, that’s my 1, my 2, is testaments the legacy, my third is any later, Alice in hell, last but certainly not least is overkills first album. That’s my rating. I used to be able to record my classes, when I was in high school cause I was blind, a lot of the time I would be playing hard stuff like this, or Metallica’s ride the lightning.
If you ask me my personal favorite of the 4, Feel The Fire hands down. If you ask me what I think is the best, Alice In Hell. I feel like Feel The Fire is a little more unique compared to the rest and gives me a little more of variety in terms of song structure and vocal performance. Alice In Hell though, to me, is a perfect debut.
It's different here, you can easily find Bonded by Blood CD with the original cover. It's hard to get one with the US cover. BTW, this time Ralph is almost right.
For me Overkill, Testament, Exodus and Annihilator. I'm not the biggest fan of the last two. Probably a bigger Testament fan than Overkill but Feel The Fire are better than The Legacy. Murky Waters from Demonic are a phenomenal song. Same goes for Careful What You Wish For from The Gathering Saw Overkill live on May 1, 1987. Taking Over. Opened up. Second band was Running Wild on their Under Jolly Roger tour and Helloween headlining on their Seven Keys tour. Overkill played 10 songs, Running Wild 11 and Helloween 13. People stood outside shouting F Michael Kiske We want Kai Hansen 🤣. Overkill's Overkill and Overkill 2 ended their set. Unfortunately part 3 from Under The Influence was not as good as the two first parts. There was also a weird sound on that one. The drum production was not that good imo. Sid Falck are a great drummer so it was a little weird
Kreator actually were very successful, atleast compared to most thrash bands early on.. Extreme Aggression + Coma Of Souls probably sold around 300k worldwide.
This is pretty simple. 4. Overkill (they got better as they kept releasing records) 3. Annihilator (this is by far their best record) 2. Testament (one of the greatest debuts ever, but I still prefer The New Order) 1. Exodus (the greatest debut thrash record ever made).
4. Annihlator. I love Jeff Waters, & the Neverland album is my top fav for them. I could never tolerate the amateurish cheesy vocals on Alison. No offence to fans of it, I never understood why it always ranks so high with fans. 3. Overkill - I just prefer Taking Over for them overall. 2. Testament - Grew up in the SF bay area & started going to The Stone in SF, & Omni in Oakland right when Legacy was coming out. These are my guys! I take points away since the drums are a little murky on this album, hence they did First Strike Still Deadly 20 years later. 1. Exodus its the album that should have come out 3 years before it did. Everybody that played thrash in the 80's (Maybe didnt know it) But they were essentially playing a variation on what Exodus was already doing. They started before everybody else, and pretty much defined Thrash for everybody else! And who tapped Gary Holt to get a flavor of that authenticity? Effing Slayer! I rest my case!!! \M/ \M/
Related band ? Is it the norm that my reaction to the latest Kreator is to get sleepy or nauseous ?? I liked all the prior albums , even Outcast...Is it me getting bored with the style/band or does it suck ??
Wow, I gotta disagree with Ryan regarding the energy on stage regarding Overkill. Blitz is active and so is D.D, but Tailer and Linsk don't move on stage at all. They literally have nails pounded into their feet by the road crew like Malcolm Young and Cliff Williams. Testament is far more active on stage and so is Exodus. 4. Annihilator (I have their first two albums and that's all I need. Waaayyyyyy too many vocalists over the years and lineup changes) 3. Overkill (Love Overkill, but Taking Over is the superior to these two) 2. Testament (I love this album, but prefer The New Order) 1. Exodus (A total classic. Don't care that Baloff couldn't sing. He was awesome on this)
Seen Overkill twice over the last 4 years and they brought it man. Met Blitz and DD and both super nice guys as well! I think Linsk has feet problems man, lol! He does stand still alot for sure and he had some weird flips on when we met them. Those Oofos sandal/flip things? Idk. Tailer ran around tho.
Testament if you hold a gun to my head, but both The Legacy and Feel the Fire are in my top metal albums ever. Exodus is sooooo overrated, but I am just not familiar enough with Alice in Hell, so that has to be number 4. Incidentally, my absolute favorite pick for best debut of all-time is Doomsday for the Deceiver by Flotsam & Jetsam.
I would too, one of the all time greatest albums ever, me Skow , Alo, Nick & Karen seen them play last week with Hirax & Sodom in Brooklyn, they are still amazing 🤘
@@metalmystro7513 my favorite thrash album of all time. Honestly, there are only 4 thrash albums I really listen to anymore that gives me the complete spectrum of what I like. Whiplash-Power and Pain Coven-Blessed is the Black Annihilator-Alice in Hell Artillery-By Inheritance
Exodus and Testament the too 2 for me. Never got into Annihilator and need to listen to Overkill more. Been into thrash for years but OK is great live but never dove deep.
I am completely opposite to you guys. 1. Annihilator (unbelieavable chops) 2. Testament (fantastic record, full of "hits") 3. Exodus (never felt any connection, I like it but nothing special to me) 4. Overkill (always had some classic metal feel and that didn't grab me)
Thank you, Pete for saying it...Baloff's vocals are meh. I'm sorry he's dead, I'm sure he was a cool dude but I'm just not a fan of his style. Musically that album is solid, though. 1) The Legacy 2) Bonded By Blood 3) Allison Hell 4) Feel The Fire
I'm glad I can watch this on my TV again. After five days without power it just came back on less than an hour ago. Fuck you Milton! Long live the Squares!
Good to hear, My Family is in Tampa area too !
Thanks Rob! 🤘🏼
Do you know how shitty it was to only have local radio to listen to on an 80's boombox for five days? Oh that's right you do. 😆
Great show guys sorry I missed it!, thanks for giving out my picks 42:15 Pete!! 🤘🤘
See you on the next show, Rob!
Your picks was also great Rob, testement is also my number one 🤘

Annihilator focused on touring almost exclusively in Europe. I saw them play Wacken Open Air a few times and Jeff would often host the Wacken Metal Battles.

Saw Annihilator opening for Testament in the UK 6 years ago, Vader also on the bill.
Vader is sooooo good still!
Exodus blows the rest into the weeds…bonded by blood no dull moments start to finish

All awesome albums! Going to see Overkill and King Diamond on the 23rd here in Louisville, Ky. Can't wait!
"The Legacy" is the obvious winner. "Bonded By Blood" is probably considered more influential, but when it comes to quality, Testament wins.
I concur with your assessment!
I'll be seeing King Diamond, Overkill & Night Demon on the 23rd Louisville Palace. Can't fuckin wait. Love your show

I will be at the Cincinnati show on Friday. The Pallace is breathtakingly ornate and impressive.
Me too
King Diamond are the headliners, right?

Bonded by Blood only Exodus I go to also..
The rawness has had a charm since 1985…
This was the like the rant series you used to do during the pandemic, but instead of Chris, we got Ralf, which I'm more than fine with! Great discussion, boys!
All great albums
1. Exodus
2. Overkill
3. Annihilator
4. Testament

Annihilator have been touring lots over the decades. In Europe that is. My order is inverse mostly.
1. Annihilator 2. Exodus 3. Testament 4. Overkill
They are all great. For me :
1)Testament 2)Annihilator 3) Exodus 4) Overkill
According to Wikipedia, Testament changed their name from Legacy because there was a local R&B cover band named Legacy
Exodus Attack! 🤘
To be honest I don't know these bands. I checked out with metal back in 86 but loved the show. Great chat and ao much enthusiasm.
1. Bonded By Blood

It's different here, you can easily find Bonded by Blood CD with the original cover. It's hard to get one with the US cover. BTW, this time Ralph is almost right.
😆 there's no wrong answers when it comes down to personal taste 🤘 but I will try harder next time 😜
@@countralfus6408 remember Ralph it's very important to be right, fight for it 😁
For me Overkill, Testament, Exodus and Annihilator. I'm not the biggest fan of the last two. Probably a bigger Testament fan than Overkill but Feel The Fire are better than The Legacy.
Murky Waters from Demonic are a phenomenal song. Same goes for Careful What You Wish For from The Gathering
Saw Overkill live on May 1, 1987.
Pete when you go to finger lakes do you ever go to the horse track
Y’all gotta do an Incantation ranking.
Exodus, Metallica, Zoetrope
😊😊😊
Overkill, Exumer, Death Angel
😊😊😊
Agent Steel, Tankard, S.O.D
and
the
mighty
😊 VOIVOD 😊
Voivod!!!
Jeff waters lives in the uk ive seen them about 4 times
Waaayyyyyy too many vocalists over the years and lineup changes)
3. Overkill (Love Overkill, but Taking Over is the superior to these two)
2. Testament (I love this album, but prefer The New Order)
I live out in Suffolk, exit 64 on the LIE!
Testament by a mile.....then
Exodus
Overkill
Annihilator
Testament if you hold a gun to my head, but both The Legacy and Feel the Fire are in my top metal albums ever. Exodus is sooooo overrated, but I am just not familiar enough with Alice in Hell, so that has to be number 4. Incidentally, my absolute favorite pick for best debut of all-time is Doomsday for the Deceiver by Flotsam & Jetsam.
I would put Whiplash power and pain above all of them
I would too, one of the all time greatest albums ever, me Skow , Alo, Nick & Karen seen them play last week with Hirax & Sodom in Brooklyn, they are still amazing 🤘
@@metalmystro7513 my favorite thrash album of all time. Honestly, there are only 4 thrash albums I really listen to anymore that gives me the complete spectrum of what I like.
Whiplash-Power and Pain
Coven-Blessed is the Black
Annihilator-Alice in Hell
Artillery-By Inheritance
Exodus and Testament the too 2 for me. Never got into Annihilator and need to listen to Overkill more. Been into thrash for years but OK is great live but never dove deep.
I am completely opposite to you guys.
1. Annihilator (unbelieavable chops)
2. Testament (fantastic record, full of "hits")
3. Exodus (never felt any connection, I like it but nothing special to me)
4. Overkill (always had some classic metal feel and that didn't grab me)
Thank you, Pete for saying it...Baloff's vocals are meh. I'm sorry he's dead, I'm sure he was a cool dude but I'm just not a fan of his style. Musically that album is solid, though.
1) The Legacy
2) Bonded By Blood
3) Allison Hell
4) Feel The Fire
Correct
TESTAMENT ALL THE WAY
