  • THIS PLACE WILL BLOW YOUR MIND!! It's absolutely incredible what we'll find as we explore "The Forgotten Junk Yard!"
Join me on this episode of Rescuing Old Iron, where we'll start by exploring the incredible MACHINES and MACHINE TOOLS that are here. The Machine Shop is literally falling in on itself, there is AWESOME Heavy Equipment that hasn't run in YEARS, and an entire Semi Tractor / Trailer Rig out in the woods!
That's not to mention, there are more tools here than we could even spend time looking at, and ALL that is before we look at the HUNDREDS of OLD CARS & TRUCKS here on the property!!
I was amazed at all of the different types of things I found here! If I was AMAZED at this place, I promised you will be just as amazed, if not MORE!!
I feel honored to be able to explore all the incredible history this place has, and I would LOVE it if YOU joined me as I uncovered things you'd never think to see in a place like this!!
This is going to be a two part series, and I promise, you DON"T WANT TO MISS PART 2 of this tour! It's truly AWE Inspiring!
This is part one, but Part 2 will be the Tour of ALL of the Old Cars & Truck that are here at the "Forgotten Junk Yard". These vehicles range from the 1940's on into the 1990's, but MOST cars are older than 1970, which is CRAZY!!
In this series "Rescuing Old Iron" here at Salvage Workshop, I'll show you where I discover MANY amazing old machines that have been there for 10, 30, or even 100 years! Everything you see me haul back to the workshop has been purchased from the owners, and now has a new lease on life! We'll talk about the history of the places I take you to and have a little fun PICKIN' in search of buried treasures!

    -
Do you ever wonder WHERE all the Old Rusty Tools & Machines being restored on UA-cam come from? For some, they find them on the Bay, or FB Marketplace, CL, or from friends, but that's always AFTER someone else has already DISCOVERED them!!
I'll take you on an adventure where we'll discover these old tools & machines right where they've been living for a LONG time! If you love machines like these and you enjoy adventures, then I hope you enjoy this new series here at Salvage Workshop!
I am always on the hunt for amazing OLD iron machines! Finding these gems, & meeting the incredible people along the way that have had them is truly a PASSION of mine!

It's easy to judge people in situations like this, but I highly suggest avoiding that, you don't REALLY know why things are the way they are!
I agree it is crazy, but I can't tell you how many places I've been to like this! You have to understand the mindset of "idea people" (like me), they have HUGE plans for things and see potential in things that most people don't, even if that means REPURPOSING something... Many times life happens and many of those plans never get accomplished... BUT that doesn't eliminate the desire to accomplish their dreams or ideas, whatever they may be!
Plus people who have lived with the depression era mindset, (hang onto EVERYTHING, because YOU NEVER know when you'll need it), bring another dimension to hanging onto things... we live in a throw away society today, they DID NOT, and many times they STILL don't!
My opinion would be that MOST times it's NOT greed that makes someone keep things like this, the greed usually comes once someone else inherits the property and all they see is $$$$, even if it's not worth much of anything at all!
Trust me, these people, their knowledge, & their collections are disappearing QUICKLY!
I've gotten to the point where I just enjoy the people I meet through my crazy journey's & the amazing places they so kindly let me visit, and if I'm able to rescue some of their treasures, then I feel truly honored!

G'day Matt, sorry it's been a while mate. The vehicle thing doesn't interest me as much as the old machinery so it was good to see you digging thru all that gold again
Fully agree with you on the reasons and values of the ppl that keep soooooo much stuff. It's fantastic that you find such lovely old junk but also kinda sad that it is there to be found😊😢
Recently I came across an old Rockford drill press that I will restore one day, beast of a thing and very rare to find in Tassie.
Also great to see that the channel has grown so much👍

NEW SUBCRIBER. You broke my heart running through all the great equipment. I was drafted into the Army from a large farm. My parents got divorced while I was gone. I was also in Vietnam '68. There was wonderful a junk yard about a mile from our house. We'd go there all the time and the owner was an expert on manufacturing and welding. You walked by a weigh scale I used. I'd pick up the 200 lb pigs and walk them onto the scale to weigh them. We had a lot of that equipment on our farm in our shop. It's all gone because of family crap. I worked hard all my life from age 7. Best to you👍. Eaglegards...

IDEA: Once Big Red is up and running around, for sure you will have calls for work/help. The low boy trailer is a no-brainer. Instead of the Kenworth, might consider a sizeable dump-truck. Many times when a Cat is required, so is the need for a dump truck. Cha-ching! And then even a smaller sized excavator is frequently needed. Voila - a new profession that makes great $$. Love the vids by the way.

For many folks life is too short or the mind is let down by the body, to accomplish the dreams of what could be-preserving the past. This represents an era when quality machines and tools were the norm. It is shame that steel rusts/decays with time and exposure to the elements. I agree there needs to be a way of saving/restoring what can be saved in a time capsule. The cheap plastic rubbish that we have to buy today in the throw away society, I find difficult to come to terms with. From Tasmania down under-save what you can.

This stuff is cool, thanks so much for taking us along. I would think the hydraulic press wouldn’t take much just a good cleaning and replace to seals. I know if you could you’d take ever piece home. It’s just so cool to see these old machines but at the same time it’s sad to see them in this state.

That saw stopped in mid-cut suggests that after a long history of failing to pay the electric bill the power company lost patience and literally pulled the plug.

I am in South Africa and if you had to leave that yard like that it would have been picked clean in a week from all the scrap hunters we have. I am really interested to know how he is cleaning it that yard. Is he recycling it all?

The lathes and milling machines tooling included should be saved. I would grab the brake drum lathe as with everything going to disc brakes they will get scarce. Allis Chalmers HD16 great machine for medium size dozer. I think the second low bed trailer might be the best one as it is a "Beaver Tail" and they both need new wood. Once this stuff is scrapped it's gone forever. The Caterpillar cylinder rebuilding machine is a keeper. Some cylinder rebuilding outfit would kill for it. Or it could be the beginning of your new business. Don't leave out the 966 loader 'cause you might have the trailer to haul it.

That land is so contaminated. There was a junkyard a guy bought in Holbrook MA that all the soil 5 ft down was sent to NJ to be burned and sent back.

Love your vids man, especially your mindset. There is enough machinery there for you to rescue (hope you are allowed to) to keep restoration vids going for a long time. Keep up the good work.

Great video, but depressing too. I think you should do a couple of Will it Start videos from here. I'm a salvager as well, but I don't have a shop to work in right now. #SaveTheCub

RRR -- Reuse, Recycle, & Rescue! Mark off areas & "Lots" and have weekend sales by 'lot'. Anything that does not sell mark for the scrap heap. AND scrap it --- NOT trash it. 99% of all the metal parts are recyclable. ASK local farmers 'how' to re-use the equipment AND/OR if they would like to 'adopt' it. I bet they will & can put it to use in different ways you have not thought of.
