The hour meter running backwards is usually caused by the battery connected wrong way around. I'm not sure if you are aware or not but generators run a positive earth system. Here in New Zealand the old Allis Chalmers loaders were classed as some of loaders back then. Keep up the videos of saving the old equpment.
So THATS how i make it look like there are less hours on a machine than there actually are!... lol jk...I had rounded up when i wrote the hours originally, and the hour meter just never changed! Now i know thst needs fixed! Add it to the list!
Really enjoyed the way you clarified the process of rebuilding the injection pump and injectors. Plus, thank you for the longer episode. I always feel like I'm missing a lot of good content with shorter episodes.
8/39/23; watching your incredibly positive attitude is inspiring & overflows into my other job difficulties & stimulates a much better personal attitude within me..at age 78/healthy & still 'wiggling' as i go about my projects. Thank you for showing all viewers your 'can do' attitude & how persistance = accomplishment especially when searching for & repairing old heavy equipment. Much enjoy your channel. Stay safe & carry on!💪🗜🪒🍺👍
There's something deeply satisfying about seeing an old machine others have given up on get a bit of TLC and get put back to work. I think I'd have liked being a mechanic or operator of some kind. Got pushed into computers instead and regretted it after a few years and went to carpentry/construction. Always loved working with machines. They have personalities and can be quite interesting to work with. Thanks for letting me watch over your shoulder. Cheers.
Glad you two. Started the build again! I have been with you since the beginning. Now that you have started the build again I believe your channel Will grow like wild fire! ❤
What a job! Glad you let Area Diesel Service sort it out, they just work magic what I can tell from some other videos. That 34° adjustment did the rest, quite unusual, as most adjustments refer to plain TDC... Thx a lot for letting us watch you getting it done despite of all the qbstacles with the rain, snow and the cold, well spent two hours! 👍👍👍
Isn't it amazing how well that ultrasonic cleaner works !! I have one and I love it !! And that stapler looks AMAZING !! And works like a dream !! And I really enjoy the history of each item you restore !! 👍👍
That was an arduous process but you got her going better than ever! I remember when you pulled ol girl outta the barn with the dozer, so glad to see it running so well!
Well done, I was so happy to sit down for an hour fifty minutes and see this job through to a conclusion instead of two or three videos. Excellent bit of detective work tracking the timing problem down, she sure does sound good now.
Conclusion : You can't guess what needs to be known...they call that expertise. Only time ( and a lot of research...) can bring it. Kudos for keeping up the hard work!
I have been fighting a JD 1010 crawler for months and have watched a lot of videos. Your rebuilding of the injector pump was the only one that showed where the plastic buffer washer under the governor weights goes and how to put it on . I will be redoing the pump if I can find a cylinder liner plate assembly that is under $2,000 bucks. Great work, and thanks.
We had a newer 575 B model made in the late 1970s. When it reached into the 20,000 engine hours it got very difficult to start and needed ether to start. The engine was worn out so the compression was low. The dealer offered a replacement new engine repower which was an Iveco engine that came with everything necessary to replace the Allis Chalmers engine.
When breaking and tightening the injector lines I use a crow's foot "tube wrench" and a rachet and extension. Makes bleeding injectors EZ-PZ. I have both imperial and metric crows foot tube wrenches i bought at Harbor Freight. Next time you bleed injectors you will thank yourself for going to Harbor Freight. Good video . Thanks for taking the time for us to enjoy.
No, once tightened down the oring is able to just slip a bit higher on the injector body... if it wasn't sealing at an injector we would know based on how the engine sounds.
Its so crazy to see how intricate diesel motors are to where the specialists have to use such fine measurement tools. Must take a LONG time to gain all that knowledge.
Since you had the rocker cover off why you no set valve lash would make it run better yet. I've done it myself when things go wrong I tell my you only needed to remove a few more bolts and deal with it and I wouldn't be doing things again like I need the practice lol👍👍👍
Because i didnt want to change ANYTHING else... it ran beautifully before the injection pump stopped pumping and i wanted to make sure i found the problem before adjusting anything elss.
Thanks for another interesting and educational journey of Salvage and restoration. Understanding how things work and why professionals do what they do, is becoming ever more valuable; As time goes forward, those with the knowledge and knowhow are lost to us. That being said, there is also value in you exploring and figuring out what you can and I appreciate that you showcase both. Looking forward to all you have planned.
My impulsive thoughts decided the loader could be named Sgt. Unkillable because of the 2 military manuals and how this machine just will not die!🤣 Happy salvaging!!
Might be sucking air into the fuel system somewhere. My Hough H90 had a spot where fuel tubing rubbed inside a clamp. Could not see it. Finally started at tank taking every part loose, cleaning and sealing threads.
3 cans of flex seal 30 bucks, one gin for the top first quote, 1 for the inside coat and 1 more on the top coat, and that canvas will last forever on that umbrella. Been there done that road fine 2.
Great video, I really like what you do. PLEASE stop with the devil hand gestures! In this day and age, we don't need or want any of that! Keep them coming!
Man salvage workshop your video on that front end loader just made it's upload to my phone today from last winter A hour ago now man. Of you fixing that injector fuel pump by taking it to area diesel automotive services.
Curious. At the 1:07:15 mark you dropped the copper crush washer down the hole was it supposed to fall in. And if so why didn’t you do the grease trick. Will automatically align down there?
There are some things that a good mechanic could do with the proper manual and some tools but there are some things we are better off leaving to the people with a lot of experience who work with them often and have all of the specialized equipment to do them.
What an astute observation those machines were built at another time and something is up with the transmission. Man I wish that you had a newsletter because I would totally subscribe for those little jewels of wisdom alone.
At least its old stuff, man I went thew the hassle of replacing my heater line for my 99 suburban for rear heat, ran a new line from the front to the back, drove the truck around for a week, blew the plastic T up front, replaced that, and got all the air out, another week, I blew a climate control valve, replaced that, $80 bucks for a hunk of plastic that 5 lines go to with a vacuum controlled valve, got a month and blew the heater core in the rear of the truck, At this point I said screw it, bypassed the rear heat, not worth it.... Rear passengers can freeze lol.
Shocked at the snow this time of year , I cannot work with my brother as we clash on quite a few things I find I have to bite my tongue on certain subjects .
Hi, I'm interested in those matts you talked up but I didn't catch what they are called. Can you offer any more info. Thanks for all your entertaining videos. I've watched EVERY one of them.
I appreciate that Ray! It means a lot! The mats are called Pig Mats from a company called @NewPig you can find them at www.newpig.com They are AWESOME!
Smoking engines are not an opinion but are simply leaky valve stems, i.e. wear and tear that can / should be repaired in the interest of the environment if you are close to it
I have another sentence to type to you about. In a carbureated engine, the fuel from it went through the tunnels of the air inlet manifold. While that fuel is traveling through them, the mist of it collide into each other, causing it to produce slightly larger droplets instead of mist. This continues until that mist and larger droplets eventually enter into cylinders. Then it starts to become quite interesting. Those larger droplets don't easily burn. What happens to them? Those that don't completely burn exit those cylinders into the exhaust ports of the heads and then into the exhaust manifolds or headers of a performance engine. The fuel that didn't burn in those cylinders. That's why fuel injection is better than a carbureated engine. The fuel stays atomized because it doesn't travel through those tubes of the air inlet manifold.
my 840 and 940 AC HAD A SWITCH IN THE MASTER CYL. TO PUT TRANS OUT OF DRIVE SO YOU CAN HOIST THE BUCKET FASTER. THAT SWITCH GOT RUSTED the ball in it will stick??? holding the trans in neutral. !!!
The big bag of cheap Harbor Freight spring clamps can be your best friend when stringing up tarps and temporary tarp shelters. Awesome video! A lot of trials and tribulations. I'm glad that you got it running and going. We will see more and more of it as you work on your property
The coolent heater is for heating up the engine on cold days in the winter months you can bypass the cab heater but you will still need the other coolent lines to warm up the engine.

Looking at the previous videos on this huge machine to catch us up brought back memories of where this machine was, I remember now
Congratulations finding that timing issue. What a battle! You persevered and won in the end.
Congrats on the fix! Frustrating but so rewarding when you get to that Eureka moment!

Enjoyed the video ,is that the original cab for that machine ?

Thank you for sharing.
Crazy how the simple of things fix what could've been and seemed like a lot worse.
Yes! I can’t wait to watch this ! I demand you Post more videos! JK thanks for taking the time to make great videos.

Using the o-rings made me wonder if they would interfere with the function of the crush washers.
My thoughts exactly. Wouldn’t the installed height change with the o rings?
No, once tightened down the oring is able to just slip a bit higher on the injector body... if it wasn't sealing at an injector we would know based on how the engine sounds.
@@SalvageWorkshop why put the o-rings then anyway
Thanks for making the video long-form to reflect the project. Sometimes I want the small bite 20 minute videos, but not as often as UA-cam thinks.

To clean that oil off, super clean degreaser,
did you clean the fuel tan out? i bet theres a bunch of dirt in the tank and its sucking into the pump and plugging it up.

I always enjoy watching you working on the machines you have 😊
Good job getting the old loader running
Mr. Salvage, that's quite a heavy-duty tent you have there.
I agree with your injector seal upgrade.
Thanks for this ✌️❤️ from 🏴
My impulsive thoughts decided the loader could be named Sgt. Unkillable because of the 2 military manuals and how this machine just will not die!🤣 Happy salvaging!!
Sounds good now. Ready to go
Thanks!
very good video, you do a great job explaining what you are doing, cant wait until next video on this machine
A wonderful episode!
Matt at Diesel Creek is working on his Allis Chalmers loader. He found a new motor and may end up with a spare exhaust manifold.
Might be sucking air into the fuel system somewhere. My Hough H90 had a spot where fuel tubing rubbed inside a clamp. Could not see it. Finally started at tank taking every part loose, cleaning and sealing threads.
Oh man, what a great job, sounds so good!
Good job Matt. I watched 100% because you kept it interesting.
You've got a problem with the pump and the filters then I'd be checking they fuel tank as well too see if they is any water inside the main lines
The umbrella seal tool is your best friend. Once you've had 1 not seat properly you'll invest in one😂
you are amazing good job wel done much greetings from holland toppy 👍👍👍
You can't beat a puff of old diesel smoke!!
Mr Salvage, have you spoken to Matt at @DieselCreek think he acquired a new manifold for a Allis Chalmers / FIat?
Since the windscreen on that loader reminds me a bit of a Star Wars Storm Trooper* maybe you could call it the 'Storm Scooper'?
I think while your getting ready for winter I'd tape the seat up with gaffer tape or duck tape ..cheers Alan UK
3 cans of flex seal 30 bucks, one gin for the top first quote, 1 for the inside coat and 1 more on the top coat, and that canvas will last forever on that umbrella. Been there done that road fine 2.

Area diesel in Indianapolis, Indiana. The other places are to though.
Very enjoyable video. Only bad thing, and you have no control over this, was a Joe Biteme commercial for Pres, the guy is a first class clown.
Those are excellent lights under the cover there. Studio quality pic. Great job. Is he younger or older(who beat on who)?
20:25 WOW, talk about a delay in upload, 9 months, at least! lol.

I'm 2 years older thsn that machine.
All way keep your caps.
You mentioned the back injector copper seal stayed in place. How was that removed? Thanks.
how did you remove the copper sealing washer
I had a JD that I change the injector pump on, and it ran like that turned out I had the timing 180 out.
These diesel engine are so finnicky when it comes to their fuel system
Poor ol fat allis she will come back. Love your repair vids, how are your jeeps going

Way to bother the Tech at Ariel diesel service great job
Or erie diesel automotive services either one you used.
Going to weld/braze crack in intake manifold? Would it be allowing too much air in?
Hopefully the hour meter isn't counting down how many hours it has left :P
set the valves
Would adding an Inline fuel filter help?

Agreed very important on diesel engines to keep that intact
those coolant lines also cool the compressor head .. hook them back up
What a great video. I know how you feel, I’ve been there many times. Congratulations! Hard work pays off. Best wishes.

Satisfying but horrifyingly back breaking..
@@FrequencyOfThought They built them to last back in the day.. Unfortunately u don't get anything to make it past that dreaded Warranty anymore.. LMAO
Something else to check is the valve lash it could be off enough to cause hard starting and rough idle
I was thinking the same thing that old engine could use an overhead in the worst way.
