Welsh cakes are just flat scones at the end of the day, you must also try them the most traditional way which is still warm off the griddle with a thick layer of good quality real butter spread on them, we call them Cacen Gri (as in gree when saying green) and they're super easy to make at home, as a kid growing up in Wales in a family of 7 we'd literally queue up next to the stove while my mum made Welsh Cakes and Drop Scones on two griddles, curiously enough drop scones are nothing like scones but they're more like American pancakes, which we'd also eat smeared with a thick layer of butter, we like butter a lot in Wales! 🤣 Teacake is exactly as you describe , it's a fruited bun toasted and again spread with butter, I love a toasted teacake! If you come to Wales again look out for the national dish 'Cawl' which is a lovely stew, and if in North Wales (where I'm from) we also love Lobscouse which is the stew which gave the scousers in Liverpool their nickname, a good lobscouse (aka just 'scouse') is maybe my favourite thing to eat ever, served with some good sourdough bread to dunk in it's incredible!

@@markjones127 we went back the next day and got some that were still warm- what a delight! Thanks for the recommendations!
Actually my family is from the North of Wales☺️ I traced my ancestors back to Angesey in the 1700’s. Evan (my first name) was my grandmothers maiden name (Evan’s).
We’ve got another video from Wales dropping Sunday at 5pm👀

Diolch! Nice video! You said 'currants' just fine the first time with the Welsh cakes, you should have had some tea with it and put some butter on it, just the plain one though. Not sure what you said with the tea cake though! BTW, from the first video , Anglesey is an island, not a town . It does have the long place name though, Llanfairpwllgwyngychrhrwynrobllllantasiliogogogoch. (from memory so it won't be right!) and is the most WElsh speaking part of Wales. Surprisingly, Welsh is quite easy to pronounce, as it is almost totally phonetic. But you do have to learn how to say some of the Welsh letters like LL , CH and R ,
