      I'm glad you didn't do a reaction to this song until you thoroughly listened to their other material. If you jump in and try to understand the depth of this song(as one might do with Laterallus) without understanding the complexity(and simplicity at the same time oddly enough) of Tools song structure, you could easily get lost along the path that they created for you to experience... Maybe I'm just really, really, REALLY baked. Either way, it looks like you enjoyed this one so cheers🍻

    The very first track Justin Chancellor collaborated with the band when he first joined them. He is the genius behind the baseline and tempo of the song . They were looking for a bass player who was more than merely a player but could write songs as well. 20 + and more years later I would say they got their money’s worth .

    Forty Six & 2 is one of Tool's cornerstone songs. It speaks to a major part of what Tool is all about. Evolving!! All I suggest is at some point go back and look at the lyrics to this song and read the meaning. To the right person this song can be life changing.

    Watched an interview with Justin Chancellor. This was the first bass line he brought to the band after he auditioned and he and Adam fleshed it out. Not bad start, especially since he initially turned down the audition because he wasnt sure he was talented enough and his brother made him call back and go to the audition. Humans have 46 chromosomes, the & 2 refers to a theory our next step in evolution may be the addition of two more. We share 98% of DNA with chimpanzees, that 2% makes a huge difference. Two more chromosomes would be a massive step forward in our evolution.

  • @juicesghost8501
    @juicesghost8501 4 роки тому +8

    Glad you made it to 46&2. I like to look at this song as "the middle" for Tool if you ran the discography straight thru. If you go backwards from here, towards undertow and opiate, you notice the dirty, grungy guitars and bass lines (except for the triad) and the anger that labeled them as "metal" before the "prog metal" label. Forward from here is the melodic, jungian, African drum, astral plane, outside the body experiences we all love. All of it great, whatever way you go from here will be a fun experience for you and us. I would suggest going to undertow next before ten thousand days, spiral out from here.

    I've seen them all from AC/DC to Zeppelin and ZZ Top, across the USA 🇺🇸 and all throughout Europe, mostly Germany 🇩🇪, and TOOL has yet to have been outdone!!
    The music tones Adam Jones gets from his 1979 Gibson Siverburst is the reason he plays one. The guitar had a different tone to it due to the paint finish which is reason other lead guitar players don't use them. That and the wood used to construct the Siverburst in '79 was different back then.

    The riff on Brief Exchange sounds more like the riff from "My Own Summer" from his band The Deftones 2nd album "Around the Fur"

    Love the videos, I see people commenting on some videos about doing pushit live please don't so many reactors do that and you miss out on the great riffs. Or do both since they seem completely different. Much love from canada rant done lol

    Just to help decipher the lyrics for you... 46 and 2 is about the chromosome makeup of humanity. As humans we are currently at 45 and 2, and we evolved from 44 and 2. 46 and 2 is largely considered to be the next step of evolution, like a super human of sorts.
    Anywho the song is about evolving to 46 and 2. Enjoy.

    I loved the way you ended this video! HA! Remembering your Fear Inoculum reaction... wanting a big payoff, something like Slipknot. Up next: Hooker with a Penis is one of the most in-your-face songs of all time. Plenty of F bombs. And the lyrics are surprisingly (and intentionally) shallow and easy to comprehend. (BTW, It's okay to not do a Harry Manback video, but definitely listen on your own time because it's hilarious.)

    If I had to pick one song to represent tool it would be this one. It’s not my personal favorite(although I love it) nor do I think it’s their best one but I think it represents their entire catalog very well. 🤘

      I feel the same way. Certainly not the song that "speaks" to me the most, but in my opinion, the one that best sums up their sound/style.
