First Tool song I ever heard. Those giant snails were quite the problem.
Haha that was my introduction as well
Same here, dont forget tears of the old man habaha
Bruh I randomly found the pot music video on youtube back in highschool and I was like "wait, this is Tool?" At that point I had only listened to Aenima, but after seeing that music video, I had officially started the journey into Tool becoming my all-time favorite band.
Reading some of the posts that this was their first intro to tool, I feel blessed to have been listening to tool for nearly 30 yrs, Ænima is still my favourite
I love this song! But I'm super stoked for you to get to Rosetta Stoned
Unpopular opinion: Rosetta Stoned is Tools magnum opus.
@@JungleScene I have to agree. Took me a while to realise. Beats Third Eye for me.
@@JungleScene unpopular opinion or not, it's one I agree with.
@@JungleScene that's not an unpopular opinion among Tool fans at all😂
@@JungleScene dude so many people i know think thats their best song its not an unpopular opinion fam
I really enjoy watching another human being falling in love with Tool. It is like watching myself 18 years ago when I first listened to Schism in MTV and saying to myself: what is that strange yet captivating sound? Then Prison Sex arrived... then Stinkfist... then Parabol/Parabola... then Flood... Music was never the same after that single moment. P.S. keep it up man!
Dont worry guys we still have right in two and rosetta stoned :d
Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned Reaction currently LIVE at Patreon.com/drewfortune 🔥👽😳
Bro....be ready for this. Probably my favorite track(s) in the entire catalog.
It's 3 tracks connected at once. Lipan Conjuring/Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann)/Rosetta Stoned
And use lyrics on screen this time, you'll need it.
Seconded @Qliphirot - DEFINITELY use lyrics to read along, there's some distortion he uses on vocals and he talks FAST during some of it. It's a STORY, and you'll want to follow along.
Your head might explode. Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned is like “Hooker with a Penis” and “ticks and leeches”. It may not be meant to mean anything other than Tool just being Tool, but it shows everything that makes them so musically gifted. Cheers from Lousiana!
tool must be the only band in my life, i can play any song on their discography and feel its a masterpice.
I literally watched this video twice, just to see your reaction when you realized the song wasn't over and there was another verse... and again when you threw your headphones at the end. Amazing song!!
My all time favorite Tool song. Might be my all time favorite song in general
Its a reference to the phrase "The Pot calling the Kettle black"
In my language it's "Der Esel schilt das Maultier Langohr"
"Donkey is scolding the mule having long ears"
😎
12:40
@@richtigersoan Also ich würde mal behaupten das die wenigsten diesen spruch kennen 😅😂😂
@@kleinb97 aber es gibt ihn 😊
Maynard's scream in the end give me goosebumps
Use a lyric video for lost keys/Rosetta
I second this!
Third!
Absolutely!! It NEEDS to be a lyrics video
And for "Lipan Conjuring."
I disagree. Close your eyes and get lost in the sauce. You only get to experience it for your first time once. You can always go back and check out the lyrics.
"My whole playlist is becoming tool at this point"... I've been there my friend, I've been there.
The bass groove in this tune is absolutely gnarly
You're so spot on about those fan-made lyrics videos distracting people from the music. Glad you made that call! Great vid as always!
"this whole album is insane"
What would you say if I told you many fans did not like it at first, and there was even a conspiracy theory that this is a fake decoy album to distract the fans so the band could release the actual album?
It sounds ridiculous in retrospect because it is a great album.
Wow, never heard that. 10,000 days was the Tool album that introduced me to the band. I've always loved it. It may be even better in retrospect.
Yes , when 10000 days came out there were a quite a few that said they didn’t like their new album ! But of course, the songs grow on you! And become part of your Soul!! #TOOLARMY
The same thing happened for Fear Inoculum
I literally thought this song was a Tool clone the first time I heard it. Maynard's vocal at the start was just so different than anything I had heard him do up to that point, totally fooled me. Still, even thinking it was wanna be's, I liked it lol.
man, i remember being a bit disappointed by this album having been weened on stinkfist, aenima, 46/2, sober, and eulogy... coming from that level of expectation, you can see how some of it was a bit of let down when you're expecting heavier stuff
This song is about a friend of (I think) Danny's, who was sentenced for marijuana possession by a judge who was soon thereafter arrested for cocaine or something similar.
The lyric, "Kangaroo be stoned, he's guilty as the government," really stands out to me as one of Maynard's most well-written. The double entendre (which Tool is all about) implies both, "let him be stoned," as in, taken into the streets to have stones thrown at him, as well as the obvious, "he must've been high." The court being as guilty as the government implies that not only is the judge backward on an individual level, but so is the government's war on drugs, and the persecution of sovereign adults who experiment with their own consciousness.
This sounds the most relevant explanation to me
Yep, you're right. There's a dude on that lyrics site who always tries to use Tool lyrics to bash religion in his lyric meaning posts (of course some songs are, but not all).
Ur reaction is priceless!! You are officially stuck in the rabbit hole of TOOL
My favorite song of all time
You're definitely going to want a lyric video for Rosetta Stoned. I still miss the lyrics some times after hearing it a hundred times.
No genius is better
Dude!!
That had to have been the most entertaining reaction I've ever witnessed here on UA-cam!!
Friggin awesomeness!!
The interpretation that most have is that this song is about drug laws in the US. Primarily laws about Pot. Never heard anything about native tribes before. The double meaning is that the courts and lawyers will rail against marijuana but then get drunk. The kangaroo courts refer to those who have there mind made up long before the issue is debated. Actually quite relevant to US society today.
Not really the interpretacion i would call correct tbh
Tool is never that in your face. Like prison sex isn't about rape, it'd about Christianity
Yeah, but Prison Sex has "do unto me now" and "do unto others" which is a direct reference to the golden rule. I think it's a major stretch to interpret "pissed all over my black kettle" to mean Chief Black Kettle and not just simply be a reference to the "pot calling the kettle black". At the end of the day, this song is about hypocrisy, whether or not you believe it's specifically referring to marijuana or not is probably not that important.
Yeah, I heard it was about a judge that was trying a person for pot possession when he was actually a hypocrite and strung out on heroin himself. Kangaroo done hung the juror with the innocent.
kan·ga·roo court
/ˈˌkaNGɡəˈro͞o ˌkôrt/
noun
an unofficial court held by a group of people in order to try someone regarded, especially without good evidence, as guilty of a crime or misdemeanor.
Then the difficult to dance around this one till you pull it out (needle)
Must of been high..
Lots of interesting theories.
True, idk about genius lyrics but the song is about hypocrisy and point fingers to others first than your self mainly. I dont know about the tribes. The pot calling the kettle black" is a proverbial idiom about hypocrisy.
You’re one of the few UA-camrs that react appropriately to this song. Particularly to the part starting at 7:17. That shit is fucking HEAVY. But most people just breeze right past that part. I guess a lot of people just don’t resonate with that sound, because there’s no way you can hear that part and not feel pure adrenaline if you do. Glad to see I’m not the only one.
When you threw your headphones at the end, I knew we had you... great reaction!
Basssssssssssss 🤗💞
Soooooo fucking groovy !!
Great reaction to one of my favorite Tool songs. Masterful musicians all, but Justin really takes the bass to the next level on this track.
i gotta throw in Sober Live in 1992 @ Reading festival, the most intense live performance ive seen (It's got great audio quality too) even if you don't react to it, you still should check it out somewhere in the future
Anyone else who cant wait for Right in Two?
It’s very difficult for me to pick a favorite Tool song, but on most days, I’d pick that one.
My 2 cent on "weeping cozened shades of indigo. Shed without a reason. "
Supporting the idea of these two-faced hypocritical persons in positions of power or influence, "cozened" is to have achieved a goal or objective through deception.
The color "indigo" is often associated with spiritual matters, devotion, integrity, piety, etc.
Thus, to weep cozened shades of indigo would suggest not only false tears, but also a deal of pious showmanship to convey a sincerity of anguish orchestrated to appeal to a sympathetic religious or otherwise "virtuous" audience through a deceptive authenticity.
To me, "shed without a reason" simply implies that the act is done out of hand, "no dog in the fight" other than a desire to condemn others; to go tossing stones around.
Pretty much this is correct. Although cozened shades of indigo can also be interpretted as "big blue eyes." So in other words, you are shedding false tears behind your big blue eyes. This leads into your idea of showing tears/sincerity in a public domain, and using your "innocent" eyes for an agenda, all the while committing the same offences behind the scenes (thus leading to the hypocrisy described in the song).
Cozened=not quite blue(fake blue) pretend sad.
Me: What do you have on your playlist?
Drew: Tool
Me: What else?
Drew: what do you mean?
literally every tool fan lol
This was my very very first song I ever heard from tool, since that day my life changed haha.. best thing ever
Same!
Kangaroo court has decided Drew is the man!

I've watched this video like 4 times now haha One of my fav Tool songs, love your reactions!
I saw this live in Sydney 2 weeks ago and Maynard still has it 😎
This is a badass one
don't forget your peyote when you listen to Rosetta Stoned
You gotta do A perfect circle journey next!!!!
Soljarag5 second this
It’s pure joy to watch someone enjoy this song as much as I did when I heard it first. Great reactions man.
I absolutely love your Tool reaction videos, brother. The best out there! 😀👍🏻 Much love from Chicago, homie.
Well, after nearly 20 mins of having yer senses brilliantly kicked in with relentless roundhouse kickin' riffs courtesy of the first two songs, then nearly 20 mins of delving deep down a darkly emotive thunder stricken road of loss, grief, remembrance and release with the two part title track itself, its refreshing then,to have the lads let loose with an instant, infectious yet still amazingly intricate song. As Saor Éire said, it has more of an Undertow vibe, and I tink it also serves as a great way to mark the midpoint of the album. Lifting the lid off The Pot get you kicking back and rocking out, and then take a deep breath to prepare for another gargantuan musical odyssey into the cosmos with Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned. The Pot has some of the album's most immediate air guitar moments with lots of catchy, punchy grooves, upbeat melodic riffs for Maynard to lay it all down to. Justin's bass backs it all up- bouncing back and forth at times like a pinball.
And being the shortest track on the album right in the middle of a gathering of giant songs, theres more than enough excitement here in the 6 or so minutes.
Curious to see whatya make o'the next one! Looking forward to it.
Bought my tickets to the Valentine’s Day concert in Perth, Western Australia today. Came to UA-cam to celebrate with Drew and the crew!
My most favorite parts of these reactions is watching you fall into Toolfandom. Welcome, brother!
Definitely have a lyric sheet for Rosetta Stoned.
You will be in for one hell of a ride.
🎶🎼👽🎼🎶
Tool is musically one of the best bands to have ever existed.
Lol, I love this album so much and to see you get blown away on each track laughing in disbelief, is the true mood.
This is probably my favourite Tool reaction. Not just yours, but by anyone. Watched it too many time to count. "I thought it was over!" 😂💀
Excited for Right in Two. My favorite Tool song, musically speaking
Drew, I absolutely love that my head bobbing perfectly matches your head bobbing… 😆
That bass. Thank you justin.
@Drew Fortune Definitely check out Porcupine Tree after you are done with Tool, they are an amazing prog rock/metal band. Found them through looking for bands like tool. Keep up the good work!
Love your channel, keep on keeping on !
Justin's bass grove in this song is fucking raw! Love it.
Dude your channel is severely underrated. Best breakdown of this song I've ever seen on youtube, instant sub!
I just saw tool live yesterday and bro if you ever get a chance you have too its mind blowing love ya vids btw
Fricking finally!
The jammiest of Tool songs imo! They just ride that groove so fuckin good in this tune.
I remember this being the first Tool song I heard. It was about 2011/2012 I think. I was about 10 or 11 I think. My dad got the 10,000 Days album and played it quite a bit. I remember seeing that weird snail video for it on UA-cam at the time. It was at that time my favorite. I remember singing the first line every so often at school lmao. A few years later, about 2014 I got more into music and at the time I already had a few bands I had liked and found others. I then got more into Tool and they are in my top 5 favorite bands. Soon after Jambi became my favorite Tool song.
Holy sh*t, the sound quality on your video is amazing! Amazing song too (of course)!
My fav song !!! Great video
watching someone becoming a fan of Tool...priceless

Can’t wait to join you on this listen mate 🍺
🤘🏻🤘🏻😈😈😊😊 #PissAllOverMyBlackKettle
I play this song when I drive my 1999 dodge 2500 24v cummins diesel 5 speed when I leave school everyday and I get odd looks but I don't give a flying stick cause my truck is louder than hell and I blast this song at the same time
This is my favorite Tool album. This is an unpopular opinion among a lot of Tool fans, but it was my introduction to the band when I was in 9th grade and every song blew me away and for ever changed my taste in music. For me, this album feels more personal than any other. I look forward to eventually seeing your reaction to Right in two :)
Got my girl and I a ticket each for Tool in Auckland in 101 days' time!
Missed out on the first gig and GA on the Sat but got seats up top.
Turns out the audio is superb up there!
Love watching your journey into Tool. Much like the rest of us, our playlists are virtually all Tool as well!
Another great reaction. This was my first memorized song by Tool, A Perfect Circle, an Puscifer Maynard's 3 bands. And now I know them all by heart.. There are so many great bands out there. Tool has opened my mind to so much more. Music is SO much Better..
Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned is a top 5 Tool track in my opinion!! Prepare to have your mind blown!!
8:04 still my reaction every time I listen to this song.
Your videos have got so good dude, keep it up
This song is Justin putting on a bass clinic.
Adam was a bass player back in the days. He was with tom morello as a guitare player in the same band called *electric sheep* 😎
Let's do this!!
These guys are awesome! Today is Justin’s Bday! Keep on rocking!
I have a big gym playlist but everytime a TOOL song comes on I get pumped and I have heard them all a million times. There was a time my playlist was very TOOL heavy, we understand.
That bassline !! Soooooo fucking groovy!!
SIMPLY AMAZING!!!!
Was laughing the whole time while waiting for it to come back in the last time, knowing you were thinking it was about to be done. Good Stuff.

Nice reaction, almost every tool song is a masterpiece, you should also check Mr bungle they are also an awesome band of experimental metal
A perfect song.
Drew! Bands to check in the future, Gojira, Animals as Leaders, Meshuggah, Scale the Summit, Nekrogoblikon!
The Bass in this song is so fucking perfect.
Yeah man that song rules of course, Tool Thank You very much.
YES THAT IS THE BASS SEEN IT LIVE
Justin chancellor is a fucking beast !!!
I got into Tool super late, only this past summer Infact during the FI hype craze, but this was the first Tool song that I heard and it started a crazy downward spiral that I've yet to let go of.
this is what a tool single sounds like. from 13, 14 years ago
Yeah bro!!.. do you feel it?... I think so!.. I saw your face!.. thanks for share!. The Pot!.
Spiral out!
The bass is awesome in this song
Dude, don't feel bad about the bass guitar comment. Tool have a way of confusing you. Lately, as I listen to the old stuff up to the new tracks, it's sounding more and more like Adam's guitar is actually, at times, a second vocal. Sometimes lead vocal. This is why we love them so much. They inspire creativity. Great artists do that. I love this video. Thanks! 🤘
People that live in stone houses shouldn't throw glasses.
Love to my fellow #ToolArmy.
I really like your research. I usually learn new facets of these songs (I never thought the pot calling the kettle black until you mentioned). Thanks! One other image this conjures for me is about Rush Limbaugh, who is a conservative radio host very outspoken about punishment for drug abuse, but in 2003 was discovered to be addicted to prescription pain killers. I think his are the "fatty fingers" waving. I didn't read this anywhere, so I don't know if any other listeners share that thought, but obviously Maynard is an excellent poet and multiple meanings are his specialty.
The way you let out a guffaw when you realize the song is not finished yet is just so pure man. You really felt that song and that makes this video really awesome.
Bass is super funky
