Even if it went beautifully wrong, it was tangible truth for a youth who refused to belong
This track hit me at a very deep and personal level the first time I heard it... I was mowing the lawn with the headphones on, and by the end I'm just bawling...
As a kid and young adult, I was a semi-serious guitar player. Then I had kids and put that away for the most part for 15 or so years... truly felt the line "then 2 then 3 then a month and the rest of your life you beat yourself up"...
Fast forward to 8 years later, I'm playing again, have a band, and we're gigging all over the area. More than that, I've made all kinds of musician friends, and am much happier for it.
I'm not sure that any other piece of art has had such a tangible effect on my life.
Thanks for sharing that story! That is inspiring! I totally get it. Happy that you picked it back up again and see what it did for you. Happy for you!
sick story! glad the message found you.
Ian's raps encompass all of the elements required for the Hip-Hop genre. He's perfected it. Mark my words, God willing, 20 years from now he will be one of the most revered poets, lyricists, wordsmith, activists, battle rappers, theologist, taught about in colleges and universities around the globe 🌎.
im honestly impressed by how quick you pick up on a lot of his lyrics without having them present on screen. But even I, as an avid and devoted aesop fan, find more and more meaning behind his lyrics when reading them vs just listening. Highly recommend putting on Closed Captions next time you react to him just in case! also gives the audience the ability to follow along for those that aren't familiar with his work (despite so many of the comments loving him!)
If I can throw my recommendation in the mix - "Dorks" is a great commentary on the current state of Rap / popular rappers. and "Shrunk" is about his first experience visiting a Therapist. Shrunk specifically is also a great "story-telling" song since you seem to like those!
Thanks for checking him out and love your stuff! Much love from Hawaii.
Thanks for the kind words. Have been listening to rap for 24 years, but is crazy i never listen to Aesop. Master storyteller. And this is definitely music you keep discovering new things everytime you listen. Have one reaction recorded to Pigeonometry that is coming tomorrow. Thanks for watching! Take care!
This song was a big part of the reason I started making art again. I've been back at it for five years now. Just perpetually grateful for this one.
That is awesome! Very inspiring.
11:40 'u know ur going to pick up new things every time u listen' i dig ur joy & excitement in that. i'v done 6-hr road trips w/ 3 Aesop songs, pausing rewinding, jaw dropping. I GUARANTEE U CAN FIND MEANING FULL CHOOSE-UR-OWN-ADVENTURES IN EVERY 3-WORD PHRASE & any phrase u find uncool, gibberish, or too much, GIVEN A DECADE, will BECOME SACRED TO U. things idk r TREASURE HUNTS. i know there's reward in spending time getting to know them.
Thanks for these recommendations. I love music that you can pick up new things each time you listen.
If you wanna see some of his drawings, check out the music video for Rogue Wave
Thanks for letting me know!
That’s a fun song to try and karaoke. 3 minute verse with hardly any time to take a breath.
Yeah, same with Gauze
This is both a great song and an amazing representation of his art. I don’t know another artist that can write his own music, produce it, engineer it, rhyme over it and then make the freaking art for it. This guy is on another level
@brianhansen6189 Klutz might take the cake on that one haha
I'm here for the Aes but I'm gonna check out your other stuff too. You're good at this you're catching a lot of what he's saying. Ih you do another I vote for "Dorks" or "Jumping Coffin." Do more Aes
Thanks so much! Appreciate it. Will definitely check out more.
@@SaeedReacts. Jumping Coffin is def a must as well as Kodokushi.. but the list is long and distinguished haha.
Dorks and Jumping Coffin for certain. Also, Fixed and Dialated is a sleeper.
4:07 'wildest sales spit you'll ever hear' moment i knew u were special LOL! i was bummed when i heard u did Rings next (YES THERE WAS BUZZ BOUT IT) i didn't want to lose u b4 ur aes trip even took off, but UR REACTION GOT ME TO LIKE IT. MAYB STILL NOT ON MY TOP 100 AES SONGS, but i WON'T SKIP OVER IT ANYMORE...that's crazy! ur reaction was sooO awesome! u didn't let urself get overwhelmed by it early & recognized the beauty of it w/out being overwhelmed w/ how to put it into words. pretty fahking glorious!!!
Thanks! Appreciate it. Definitely want to explore more!
My dude. Rings is my favorite Aes track. Is there a better line than "They will chop you down just to count your rings"?
I'd never noticed all the rings in the video. Great insight!
Great line! He packed in lot in this song and so much detail in de video. Pigeonometry reaction recorded and will be uploaded tomorrow. Thanks for watching!
Little context, he's actually an art major and worked at an art studio in NYC back in the 90s when he decided to walk away from that art form and threw himself into rapping
Thanks for sharing that! Definitely a master storyteller
His best storytelling song is probably ruby 81, it's a short song like a minute and a half but it's truly a work of art
Will check it out. Got a reaction to Pigeonometry coming today.
Dude I've watched a few videos but you yourself are beautiful in how you review things, that in and of itself is a talent
Appreciate that a lot!
@@SaeedReacts. Yeah I'm not exaggerating, the way you're able to get to the core of lyrics within a couple listens is nuts. I had to tone down my appreciation in one of your videos though because it made me sound like a stalker lol
@@erikgilson1687 That is humbling, truly appreciate the kind words. His pen game is just out of this world. Definitely warrants multiple listens to really understand it all. Love that type of writing.
Just go through the whole impossible kid album. Definition of perfecting. Subbing for your aes journey.
Will definitely explore more! Thanks for subscribing! Appreciate it 🙏🏽
You should check out Get Out of the Car, a song about sitting in his car in his therapist's parking lot. It includes another 'anti-Midas' type line (and the album's namesake) in the lyric 'Watch the Impossible Kid, everything that he touch turns promptly to shit.'
Definitely want to check out more. Will add these to the list. Thanks.
you gotta do Plastic Soldiers by Aesop it's such an underrated little gem that many people look over,,good reaction man
Will add it to my list. Thanks for watching!
Aesop Rock is the GOAT. Check out 'Shrunk' video - about his relationship with his psychiatrist.
Will add it to the list! Awesome concept.
Check out Daylight & Nightlight back to back, trust me
Will add it to my list. Thanks!
Classic. Since the ep dropped I fell in love with nightlight even more so than daylight.
@@SaeedReacts.Yeah, if you do Daylight, listen to Nightlight immediately after. No spoilers but Nightlight is a flip on Daylight 😅
He did pick it back up. The video for his track Rogue Wave is comprised of his drawings.
Awesome!
10:00 watch the ''impossible kid'' everything that he touch turns promptly to shit -Aesop Rock Get Out of the Car
That one is on my list. Pigeonometry reaction coming tomorrow
_Ah! Watch the Impossible Kid_
_Everything that he touch turns promptly to shit_ - Aesop Rock
The Impossible Kid is what got me hooked on this guy, and I can barely listen to another rapper.
In my humble opinion, you seem like you would really appreciate the levels this dude reaches with his atristry. The way he actually _paints a picture_ in your head is nearing wizardry. Bars like ''Walk that fence like a deer in headlights through a fish-eyed lens''. But I warn you, the head _will_ hurt at some point. These 2 songs you've reacted to so far are extremely straigh-forward, and those are rare gems in his hoard. I'm too stoned and chatty so I'll shut up now.
PS: another straight forward one is Ruby '81🤣, and that one features extreme emotional manipulation too. In one minute worth of lyrics. It (not me) begs for a reaction video. You will understand. *trust me bro*
Thanks for sharing that. Will check those out at some point. Just recorded a reaction to Pigeonometry. That video should be out tomorrow.
My man!!!
Pigeonometry
Ruby ‘81
Just fyi Aes is getting more concrete with age. His old stuff is so abstract it’s hard to get any one theme or decipher his train of thought. He throws metaphors over and over
i was gonna mention pigeonometry just cuz Saeed saying ' 11:05 'I hope he picked it back up like I'm rooting for him now...' cuz Aes drew all the art in video plus it's like a 'what happened', 10-year later biography of where he's at w/ art in general
@@RavenousCatalyst594 gotta be a thousand on tha .
Same here
Ruby ‘81 just for canine letting his gainer fly
@@theologyofthebody2870 Plus... A Thousand is a lot.
Will check those out!
@@SaeedReacts. Ruby ‘81 is a short story. Two minutes thirty seconds. You should probably do another short one, just cuz ;)
Hail Mary Mallon- Whales (Official Video) is two minutes sixteen seconds.
Whales is funny
Ruby is intense
No rapper comes anywhere close to Aesop Rock for hitting me on an emotional level.
