Great visual presentation - but play it again, close your eyes and just listen to Irene sing this live, no pre-recording’s, no autotune and tear up; this is the stuff legends are made of. R.I.P. Irene, I pray you realized that we loved you, and still love you. ❤
One of the most perfect numbers ever from the Oscars, honoring the films that probably should have won but didn't but such a great performance. I remembered seeing this live when I heard the sad news about her death. I hope more people discover this clip!
Irene, I admire and love you a lot and also want to thank you for all the succesful songs you have sung in the 80's. Regards from Buenos Aires, Argentina!
this is one of the best versions of this song , sung beautifully by irene cara to bad she didn,t put it on an album exactly as she sang it here but really am happy to have heard it again! it was like seeing an old friend Thanks!
I remember the night this was on - I recorded and kept it because ... WOW ... what an awesome line up of films and a great song by Irene Cara ... thanks so much for posting!! :)
Holy crap! I DO remember this! I remember my sister telling me about this when it aired back in 85. They must have talked about it a lot after the awards because I found I knew a lot of the lyrics. Very cool montage!
Wow!!!! Thanks for posting this!!! I have the '85 Oscars on a VHS tape somewhere but my VCR is long since dead. Never thought I would see this again. So glad to see other people appreciate this piece of nostalgia! By the way, where is the huge round of applause for 'Jaws'???!!!
I would like to see an updated version of this performed at the Oscars next year for their 85th anniversary. I wonder which singer could cover it if they were to do it, though. Maybe Irene Cara could come back. I can easily imagine this playing behind images of "The Color Purple", "Born On The Fourth Of July", "Beauty And The Beast", "Pulp Fiction", "Saving Private Ryan", "Mystic River", "Brokeback Mountain", "Avatar" and "Toy Story 3", acclaimed films that didn't win Best Picture.
-Just for your info, the most represented year was 1939 with 4 films: The Wizard of Oz, Stagecoach, Ninotchka, and Mr. Smith... (All lost to Gone With the Wind) -winningest loser? Cabaret, winning 8 Oscars, but losing Best Picture to The Godfather -biggest loser? The Turning Point, which was nominated for 11 Oscars, lost them all, and didn't even get a nod in this tribute! I can't speak for it's quality though, I've never seen it. Have seen every film shown in the clip. All Winners
Ordinary People is a really good movie. It is funny at how it has become one of the most despised Best Pictures because it beat Raging Bull. I'd like to know the actual vote count from that year, I imagine that OP won because votes were split between RB and EM
She will always be remembered. Iconic moment in the Oscars history. R.I.P.
So good to see these wonderful comments made when she was still alive on this earth.

If that's the list of losers, you kind of get the idea how tough it is to actually win!!!
Of course, Irene Cara is ALWAYS a winner in my book!
Always and Forever...
Holy SMOKES--they left out The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939) and Julia (1977)!!!!
LoserS? Really!!wow, tough critics. but irene,, you are incredible.

Back when the Oscars were fun, and not about gender, race, and politics.
Not won Oscars but were great films
Amazing that both Raging Bull and The Elephant Man lost best picture to that glorified TV-movie, Ordinary People!
The absurd, grotesque Oscar mistakes!!!
And things have gotten even worse: "Chicago", "Crash", "The King's Speech", "The Artist", etc.
Maybe the others you mentioned BUT Chicago definitely deserved it
The title is "Here's to the losers"Thats all I know , Sorry!
