Definitely, my all time, best song and singer of the 80's. Irene Cara's voice is breathtaking and I just love how she increases/decreases the tone of her voice according to the notes vocally. This song and her voice are a perfect match. No one could have possibly sung it better then what she did and has been doing. She also exhibits amazing raw talent! If this song doesn't inspire or motivate you to shoot for your hopes and dreams with passion and emotion, then I don't know what will. On a different note: It's heartbreaking and ironic that some of the lyrics used in the song mirrored Ms Cara's real life. Yet, the song was written before those events transpired. For instance, the line "All alone I have cried, silent tears full of pride" can be referred to the treatment the record companies handled her professional career, early on. They wouldn't pay royalties to this exceptional, outstanding women. I wouldn't want to describe what she must have gone through.
I had wondered what happened to her. Very sad…could have been the most successful year sof her life. Now we have Rihanna…a billionaire without the same talents. Many young artists don’t have the right management and they were taken advantage of…like Elvis.
