The new Sisters of Battle models are amazing! Will you be picking any up? Which Order will you choose?
amazing model. first highlight of black you say incubi darkness but put dark reaper on? looks like reaper. will you do other orders?
@@harryG6 good spot - it's definitely dark reaper! I'll probably do other orders once the full range is out. Thanks for commenting!
How did you get this box before it was released? Did GW send you the boxed set for free or did you pay for it? I just really need to know. GW cancelled my order for this, and the reason given was they didn't have enough copies. But I see all these UA-cam channels with copies of this boxed set that hasn't been released. So, please let me know. Thx.
Hey thanks for commenting! The box was paid for and arrived early on the 29th November, which was the official release day here in the UK
Could you do a video on painting white armour specifically Adepta Sororitas Order of the Sacred rose?
As traditionally white armour was one of the hardest (with old Citadel paints), so i wish to know a way of painting white armoured sisters using the new paints that looks good.
These videos are timeless. I just finished building my last Sisters of Battle unit for my 2000 point army list and I'm going to start painting them up next week. This tutorial will help out immensely. Thank you sir.
Awesome! Glad it will help!
Hey Coach, great tutorial on the sisters of battle. Easy to follow and really helpful. Thank you!
Glad you liked it
I'm really new to 40k. While looking for first sets, I found a lot of the lore behind the sisters to be so badass. Can't wait to start building an army of them and getting to painting. Cheers!
Welcome to 40K!
@@ThePaintingCoach Thanks man!
I am just getting into WH40k and the Adepta Sororitas happen to be my favorite faction, but, this painting stuff is really intimidating! I am so afraid I am going to screw up!! 😩
Thank you for the guide though, I have never watched an entire video dedicated to art! :)
Cheers - you can always paint over mistakes, or strip the paint off - feel the fear and do it anyway 😁
@@ThePaintingCoach Thank you very much! I watched other videos showing how to paint these and honestly, your style seems the one I prefer. I am not sure what it is, you just make sense and the colors are so alive, full and vibrant!
Thank you!
Thank you thank you! I have went deep down the painting black rabbit hole, combo of your power armour, cloth, and this I actually got all my paints out and ready to start now! Awesome work
Cool!
Some really great guides brother! 100% gonna use this, when I get my hands on some not sold out models for the sisters!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! Me too - these are for a customer!
Great video, big thanks. Hope my sisters will turn out at least half as nice as yours.
The amounts of "take your time" spoken just show how much detail and love was put into these models.
Also just a little correction when pronouncing fleur de lys, the S at the end is not silent, french is pretty weird.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment and thank you for the correction - you may have to accept my apologies on the other sisters of battle videos I have done!
I'll make sure to get it right on the Celestine special!
And yes - I think we should all take a little time to do something we love :)
Learned a lot watching this, gonna give it a shot this weekend on an imagifier I just picked up, first model, hoping it goes well!
Thanks for the comment - I appreciate it! Good luck with the paint work - feel free to ask any questions!
I just discovered your channel (via Instagram). Your tutorials are excellent, you do a great job of pacing. Please keep making them!
Hi David - thank you for your kind words - it's absolutely my intention to keep making them! Tell your friends haha!
that model looks gorgeous
Thank you!
Once again a lovely guide, thanks for making and sharing!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
NIce looking model. Darrn Lantham has a nice tip for finishing black armor, he did what you did but finished it off with a glass of terradon turquoise diluted contrast paint. Would you ever concider mixing paints? If you are painting a lot of models, then the number of paints you use is expensive but will also take a very long time to paint say 40 sisters for a brigade. I have a mountain of GW paints, but am moving more towards what Marco Frision does on his channel - he uses high pigment Kimera Kolors, he can get any colour he wants from the one wet-palette, worth checking his channel out too. Cheers.
Thanks for the comment! I'm a huge fan of Darren Latham - i chose not to add the glaze here as I didn't think the model needes it. I'll check out Marco Frisone - thanks for the tip!
Thanks, been painting my OoOML army and decided to take another look at someone else so I can perhaps gain some new pointers and break out of bad... habits. I've been using carroburg crimson to shade the outside of my habit. However, I was going over ALL of it. While it still look great, I ended up having to use a bit more Mephiston red than I wanted for cleanup on outer area. I don't have Flesh tearers Contrast, so I'll try your method with the same shade~
Thanks again! Subbed.
Thanks for the sub and leaving a comment! I'm carroubourg crimson will work ok :)
Your video has helped me immensely
Thanks for letting me know - that's great!
I'm really about to start with a Adepta Sororitas army and I guess I will use this great tutorial for painting it
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@ThePaintingCoach yeah and I really enjoy every other video you're making. They really help me out for nearly each thing I'm painting
Awesome 👍🏻
Stunning my Work friend
Thanks Steve!
Excellent tutorial. You sir need more followers!
Thank you for the comment! I tend to agree about the followers! Tell your friends haha
Thanks! … for making me buy the sister’s combat patrol box XD
Ooops 🤣
Very nice! Thanks for all the tips.
Thank you for the comment!
Looks great, nice work
Thanks!
Great tutorial, thanks!
Thanks for commenting - glad you enjoyed it!
Would love to see an Order of the Bloody Rose tutorial
Already done one! Check the channel page!
Nice video mate!
Thank you - that means a lot coming from a legend like you!!!
Love your work. Thanks man
Thank you! I appreciate it!
I think the shadows on the cloak should be darker.
Am extra coat of flesh tearers red in the deepest recesses should sort that oit if that's the way you want to go!
Hey! Love the videos man, I’ve just started painting, I’ve noticed your paint flows so well off of your brush, have you got any advice on getting a good balance of paint thickness etc? Cheers!
Thanks - glad you like the videos! Check my channel - I've got a video on exactly that!
Hi ;) First of all, thanks for this tutorial. It helped a lot in painting my own sisters of battle.
Just one question: How would you transfer this painting scheme to the vehicles of the sisters of battle? I have never painted vehicles before and was wondering how you would paint an exorcist for example. Maybe you could do a short tutorial for this?
Hi Daniel - thanks! I'm not sure i could do a short tutorial on any of the sisters of battle vehicles haha! They are way too detailed!
The best advice I can give is to paint it all the same - vehicles benefit from sharp edges and you can use the side of the brush to get nice crisp lines!
@@ThePaintingCoach Thanks, i was not sure if i should do edge highlighting or drybrushing but i am going to try painting the edges ;) I have an Immolator for testing
No worries - the GW style is edge highlighted - drybrushing will be a lot quicker tho!
what about the head?
Right here ua-cam.com/video/DTJdFOnLUy4/v-deo.html
Hello there! Loved the video. I hope to do half as well with my own minis! I've got a question though: apparently the "chrome" paint isn't produced anymore for some weird reason. Is there an equivalent? Thanks again for the great video anyway!
Thank you for the comment! That is strange! You can use Stormhost Silver from Citadel as a replacement!
@@ThePaintingCoach Cheers!!!
This is my favorite Sisters tutorial so far. Easy to follow, all within my skill level. Thank you!! ❤️🖤🤍
Awesome 👍🏻
Hi! Nice work! What brushes do you usually do? Thanks a lot!
Thanks for the comment - W&N series 7, size 1 and 0
You talk about glazing to bring down the highlights on the black armour. How do you do that?
Thanks for your comment! I didn't feel the need to glaze the armour back in the end, so I didn't do it.
If you check out my Iron hands video, it goes though how to use black contrast paint as a glaze 👍🏻
Fantastic guide, followed it step by step and got some great-looking results! The one thing iI struggled with is the final highlight on the belts, just can't seem to be able to do those hyper-thin lines on the edges of the belt without getting the paint on the middle bit, do you have any advice on how I can improve? Also, what brushes do you use?
Thanks Nikolay - glad you enjoyed it!
Best advice I can give is to make sure that you have a good tip on the brush and pull it along the edge of the model
I use Winsor & Newton Series 7 brushes, size 1 and 0
New subscriber, nice video.....Question...not sure if I'm seeing it right, have you just painted the inner surfaces of the robes on the most visible parts...ie not inside the stance of the model? I never know whether to try to push a brush in or paint prior to putting it on a base but this takes ages and adds lots of interim processes. Are you just leaving the very innermost parts of the cloth black? Im not being critical, the model looks great and I will be plagiarising this heavily when I get mine on xmas day! Thanks
Hey thanks for the comment!
Yes i've just painted the most visible parts of the inner robe. It didn't make sense to try and get a brush into some of the more awkward areas based on the model and cloth being dark anyway. The inner parts of cloth look like they are in deep shadow - hope that helps!
@@ThePaintingCoach Thanks for the response. Im a bit ocd with painting everything, I hadn't considered leaving the shaded areas plain black.
No problem - it's a time saver!
great video mate.
question re cloak: i used flash tearers red over paint as well and the finish is pretty glossy. did you have that issue as well and were you able to fix it somehow?
Cheers! I didn't have that issue - i did shake the absolute heck out of it with some agitators as well before hand though - couple of options - matt varnish or lahmian medium should take any shine off, just put them over the shiny bits
@@ThePaintingCoach Thanks for the answer! Appreciated. Shook it like hell as well but without agitators. Only have agitators from AK interactive and I figure that for contrasts, glass agitators would be safer. Apart from that, your video is really good. I am an advanced painter and I was searching for a quicker way to paint my sisters and your method is a great compromise to do the more stand out sisters while the rank and file nuns will be batchpainted and the canoness might be given even more attention if I feel like it :)
Awesome :) happy to help!
Hello there! I tried to purchase this particular miniature online but failed to find it in the official store. Have you got the name for this unit please?
Hi - this is a sister of battle from the limited edition boxed release they did at launch - the box currently available is the Battle Sister squad box
bruh i took a screenshot of the paints used, went out, bought them and now I'm back home, seeing that after that another frame of necessary paints came
Newby with 40k and painting Warhammer models :) do you thin out your citadel paints, like the base/layer/technical paints? Thanks :)
Hi Kym - welcome to the hobby! Yes I do - if you check my videos I've done one on how I thin mine :)
@@ThePaintingCoach Thanks so much!! I've been painting for about 3 years but it's been all D&D minis mostly from Wizkids and Reaper. This will be my first venture into 40k and I am in love with the color scheme of the Order of Our Martyred Lady. :)
Awesome! I hope the videos are useful!
You say dryad bark, but put rhinox hide in the video?
My bad - double check the paint list at the start but I'm prerty sure it's rhinox hide that I used
@@ThePaintingCoach & what about the rosery beads, were they silver also?
Yes i think so
How much water do you use with your paints? That's something I always have trouble determining. You said the layer of abaddon black you put on after the spray was very thin?
Thanks for the comment! It depends on a few things - such as palette, thickness of the paint etc
I use a wet palette, and generally only put a drop or two of water in.
For the thin black paint here I'd estimate it's probably 1:2 paint to water - the key is to make sure you don't have too much paint on your brush.
If you're using s tile or other dry palette, you may need to add more water to stop the paint deying out
@@ThePaintingCoach Thanks for the reply. I just tend to find that with citadel paints putting even a drop of water in with it just turns it into basically a wash? When painting onto a black basecoat adding water to the paint just seems to mean it takes more than 2 coats to cover evenly.
I can't say I've had the same issue with them diluting so easily - I ahve noticed it is defferent for every colour regardless of brand though - i guess it's just experience
What colours are you using over black?
@@ThePaintingCoach My sisters habits are purple so I'm starting with xereus purple. It just doesn't seem to sit on the black basecoat properly unless I just don't dilute it at all which I know isn't a great way to paint.
That's really strange - i have always Xereus Purple to go fine over black
If you need to go straight from the pot, make sure you don't have too much on the brush - that should minimise the risk of streaks
primer used?
Any black primer - I used chaos black
This is a fucking amazing tutorial. Thank you!!
Cheers!
Thx.
I am going insane trying to paint all those little details like the fleurs. I am using the thinnest brush I have and I still smudge and smear it into an ugly mess. If I use as little paint as possible, it feels like the paint doesnt stick, so I use a little more and then it smears because its too mush.
It's all just down to me being an inexperienced idiot at this but nonetheless frustrating. I really need to figure out how to make smooth surfaces that don't crinkle and lump.
Hey you're not an idiot :) sometimes the smallest brush isn't always the best solution - it's all aboit the tip
Smaller brushes have less of a well for paint which means that by the time you get to the mini the paint on the tip is dry - which can sometimes lead you to pushing too hard and then getting in a bit of a mess!
I paint most of my minis with a size 1 W&N brush, making sure that the point is really good - this makes it easier to paint detail
Outside of that I'd say make sure your paint is thin enough and practice the strokes off the model first - on a spare or on some card perhaps!
@@ThePaintingCoach Thank you for the advice! I will try to experiment a bit with what you have told me, use some different brushes and see which one gives the most precise result. I did not consider the drying bit but it makes a lot of sense given my setup, sometimes I have to adjust my lamp, giving the paint even more time to dry.
I actually just finished marrying my first sister to her base. Just a bit of highlighting and I shall be done. Perhaps I can use this to try some more of the brushes.
Good luck! And don't forget to ask away if you have any more Q's!
@@ThePaintingCoach In case you are interested in how I am doing, here are two pictures of my first (almost) fully painted sister. Still need to do some highlighting on some parts.
Your tips were great advice, the new brush is way better than the one I had before, the hair is a lot more flexible. I am trying to get into properly thinning my paints down but it is an arcane skill for me currently, it never comes out the way I expect it to, haha. Anyway, thanks again!

15:04 Is there something that we need to know about Retributor Armour? Ex girlfriend perhaps? Tough breakup? Ive never heard such an expression of exasperation following the naming of a paint before.
So should I take my time?
Haha that's up to you! We only have 'early 2020' to go on and I wouldn't want you to miss out on painting these!
@@ThePaintingCoach just for the record I maybe be giving you crap but I did love the video and you did a great job. I love the bolter. I've never thought about doing a brown wash to add that color to the sliver.
Haha I didn't think you were! I'm just glad you enjoyed it! I'll have Blood Angels up this week so maybe that will help 😁
