before this project is over, mike needs to hop in a drift car too
Yes pls
That’s what we really wanna see. We asked for more Mike and we’re getting it. Thanks for hearing us out haha
Hell yeah brother!!!😂😂😂
Doooo IT!!!!!
And Mike, too.
That cabinet sitting on the counter in the master bath would drive me nuts. Strange set up. The other 99.9% of the house looks incredible
It’s quite common. I’ve seen a similar setup in many houses in recent years.
It is pretty common but I also feel the same every time I see one. Especially with a smaller vanity like that I feel like it over crowds it too easily
Yeah but like Collette said she's going to have a bunch of ugly organizers sitting out otherwise.
@@RAZGR1Z exactly. My MBR vanity has only 2 drawers underneath, which I hate. We have so much crap all over the countertop on each side of the sink, it’s insane. Even with organizers in the drawers and 2 cabinets underneath there’s still not room to store everything.
@@RAZGR1Z what she gonna do, keep a ladder in the bathroom so she can put stuff in that cabinet? Plenty of better options
As a designer I really respect Laural she knows when to put her foot down I feel like Matt needs that sometimes 😂😂😂
She's saved them on quite a few things!
Matt's fucking annoying. Could have done without him talking the entire video. She saved his ass on a bunch of stuff.
She's great but putting towels over the toilet c'mon bro that's nasty! 😂
@@RAZGR1Z yeah no that one wasn’t it tbf haha not sure what she suggested it but
I could watch Mike do stuff all day.
Love how not only he shows well what he does, that he explains it too.
Wash and talk on the scissor lift and detail would be cool 😂
I wanna watch that😂
Come on matt! I'm here for it😂
Put the other towel rack above tub. Inside the main wall and align it with the hot and cold shower stuff, just to the left.
That's what I'm saying, I have my towel hanging in my shower/tub combo and it doesn't get wet
I was thinking the exact same thing. She expects them to get out of the shower still wet, walk across the bath and dry off at the door? 😂
if it wasn't a rain head, i could see why it would get wet, but I have to agree. or further to the right of where Matt was thinking
@@HOAheadquarters nah it can't go on the accent tile. It needs to be the main back wall or not there at all.
@@bellabc This was my thought. The main back wall, centered with the tub.
That cabinet between the sinks bugs me, I feel like it should hang on the wall like 12"-14" off the counter top. Otherwise it's too bulky and leaves zero space for a toothbrush holder or for soap or even a hand towel. For the towel racks maybe you could get smaller one's so you can put Colette's towel over the tub and Adams over the toilet or even on the glass outside of the shower when the partition wall is put up
I agree. It's really in the way. I prefer countertop space over cabinet space in the bathroom.
Not to mention it cuts the mirror in half. it almost ruins the hard work they've put into the room. Least in my opinion it does. Also, where is the towels supposed to go. no hall closet, growing up I had a coat closet blanket closet and a towel and bathroom cleaning closet... I understand you can't get the trifecta but at least one of the three. Maybe the laundry room can be the place the store extra towels and blankets. but no coat closet minimum the "mud room" at the back door needs a classic coat rack.
Agreed, it looks ridiculous.
You could move that cabinet on to the wall above the toilet 🤷♂️
That has to worth a bunch of likes , having the designer gal say Schluter, 🤣🤣! Mike Mike!
Please not over the toilet. Or near the toilet. When you flush the pu bakterie sprays at least 3 feet..
I love watching Mike play with electricity like it’s nothing 😂😂
Man that TP holder should have some kind of ball bearing drum that self centers the roll
for 800 USD i would've just installed a bidet tbh. Only Matt could justify paying 800$ for a tp holder.
🤣🤣🤣!
@@PLr1c3r Bidet is definitely the best money spent.
He had purchased Bidet seats but forgot to wire for them 😂
@@PLr1c3r Justification has little to do with it. The price is the price. This is more of an experience with products available.
In the beginning of the video I wasn't sold on the cabinet going all the way to the top but towards the end when she explains the cladding from the railing coming down and having the white wall between that and the cabinets it makes more sense after seeing that to have the wall the same color or run tile or a cabinet panel all the way up. That would indeed give it a more finished look
Great to see Laurel back always such positivity. She’s a true pro her choices went far in this project
And the “Silver Schluter” 🎤 drop at the ending OMG 😂😂
Can tell she has a good eye. That’s why she gets paid the big bucks
Seriously, going up alone in one of them is the best way to conquer the fear. I'm afraid of heights and occasionally have to use a scissor lift at work. If it's a one man job, do it alone, you can predict the sway of the scissor lift when you are up high alone. If you get up in one with someone like Mike who has no fear in one of those you are going to have a bad time lol.
Put a towel rack on the long tiled wall next to the tub that’ll work it’s far enough away from shower heads and getting out of tub towels right there!
lol Mike F is like the dad and Matty the son, dad letting the son give it a go wiring up a sconce. 😂😂😅
30:20 put it on the wall behind the tub
Towel rack should definitely go on the main shower wall next to the tub!!
Corporate AV installer here. Very interested in hearing more about the simple and easy residential solution you've come up with. I'd love an in-depth look at your install methods: TV mounts, cable management, etc. Loving the series, great work!
You gotta go check out inside the hex
Matt has tons of videos on what you're asking. Each system he has spec'd and installed is available for reference.
OMG, I’ve never met someone else so particular about their hangers……… smooth, solid, plastic hangers are the best!
I got rid of all of the plastic junk and bought oversized heavy duty made in the USA commercial wire hangers that dry cleaners buy in bulk.
All of the plastic ones (aside from coat hangers) just feel janky to me.
I like extra large hangers, so the indentation doesn't form between the neck and shoulders.
Wire hangers are better and much more neat!
One towel rack over the toilet and one over the tub on the shower wall 31:21
The Great American Hanger Company Heavy Duty Metal Hangers. They’re heavy duty, they look great, they’re smooth for easily pulling all those t-shirts off. They work for heavy items like suits or winter jackets. You can even add shoulder shapers to sensitive fabric items like sweaters, cardigans, etc. I used to buy them from a company called Lorell (kind of fitting) but they stopped manufacturing them. The Great American Hanger company version is identical except it’s not welded at the top, it’s hooked. They’ll last you a lifetime and you’ll never buy hangers again.
Leave the cabinets where they are. Theyre functional. I agree with laurel about the wall in the bathroom. Leave the wall where the tile transitions alone. Putting a rod there would make it look like it doesnt belong. Small ones next to the tub. They're not gonna wanna walk across the room naked.
Bro I lost it at the end. She said we could schluter it. And Matt and Mike are dying 😂😂😂😂
You're on the money with 3500k lights, my go to is 3700k and its almost perfection! 3500k feels soo cozy when dimmed too, the super high CRI helps more than most realize too, makes everything look right
I did my part. We’d better hit 20k so we can all see Matt weak in the knees 😂. Love you, Matty. I had to hit the thumbs up though.
I’m with you on the separate systems. When we built our house last year, I ran all the wires down to a central point (av closet in the basement), but each room is on a separate Yamaha receiver that I can control remotely with my Yamaha app. I could link them all together if I wanted but I’ve never needed/wanted to do that. I can be watching a movie on the back porch (my usual hangout spot in the evenings when it’s warm) and my wife can be on the front porch listening to whatever music she wants to, and kids can be in the living room watching whatever they want.
the money for some of this is crazy
I agree the BLUOS Bluesound stuff is fantastic! Easy to use and designed by people that know audio! 👍🏻🔈
Schluter!
my ass would hit the tolet paper roll every time i sat down
We could Schluter it will now be my go to suggestion for all design ideas
20k Likes . . . . LETS GO!!!!! Matty Goin Up Up Up
Absolutely insane seeing the layout and all the planning coming together. The quality is mind blowing! Seriously makes all the remodels I've done look like crap lol. 😆
By far my favorite series of videos. I'd love to see more if you can make it sustainable!
Appreciate the release time... OG on company time is my favorite.
Laurel knowing she can take a decision without Matts consent says everything haha. He respects her opinion so much!
He sort of has to since she has say over him
those diamond coated core bits are my favorite bit for tile work. Ive used many different bits and those work the best IMO. I just soak a rag in water and have a slow drip of water stream into the drilling to make them last a bit longer.
Keep it going, looking great!
100% go to the ceiling - it'll look a bit like a poppet non custom kitchen if it doesn't it. Just my thoughts keep up the good work - build is coming out great!
Thanks for the great video today! I love how Shluter has become a name used just like Kleenex now lol. Towel rack positions in bathrooms can always be a battle..fancy tile or not... towel rack locations needs to be functional for the clients more than just for looks. Right near the tub is a better idea...but yeah it's tricky on anything other than a flat tile. I have no comment on the cabinet between the sinks. I had one installed on the counter beside my sink by the developer at my old place in our main bath...kept things organized and out of sight...and we even had a bank of drawers in the vanity though 2 were fake due to plumbing runs lol.
don't do dummy drawers in the kitchen, just cut them a little shallower. it'd take 5 minutes and be more practical
That won't be an option. The downdraft is going to take up most of the cabinet.
Agree with Matt rose rack needs to be near tub not over toilet would be too far when getting out of shower. Another option would be on same wall as shower controls above tub even with shower controls so stays symmetrical
I am a big fan of the Hubbell surface mount kitchen receptacles (not sponsored but if hubbell want to send some my way...) Smooth surface when not in use but if you need to plug something in on the bar press it and it pops right up.
Great work guys!
Tell Adam that I can get that pool looking just as fancy! Would love to head out there and I can bring my e36 too 😀
You deserve all the likes Matt 👍
Im with Matt. Cabinets the way they are.
I highly suggest getting some of the 2” SDS bits, so much easier to work with for “precision” work. They walk way less and less deflection. We usually do have to order them but it’s definitely worth it.
When your drilling into thick tile always use water when drilling so the tile bit will last a lot longer
The cabinet sitting on the bathroom counter is criminal. I never seen that before. Hopefully Adam steps in to veto that idea.
If you’re able to, I’d recommend to do an in-wall niche for storage between the two sinks in the master bath instead of the cabinet on the vanity.
The first minute and a half of this video is all I needed 😂
Option 4 with a couple bed breakfast cabins. And camping.
15 min drive for supplies ain't so bad.
At least it's a start and bit of a test.
Can't wait to see what you come up with Matt.
P.s. sound was the same for me.
could always use those towl holders in the other bathrooms, kitchen or in the closet, and do hooks in the main bath
Ooop that’s hot. The wire nut fell off 🤣😂 proceeds to jump at the same time
im going to have withdrawal symptoms when this build is over.. 😟
Love the series! Just a fyi on the Ubiquiti ap's you can turn the led ring off through the dreammachine or app, during the day you probably don't notice them that much but at night in a bedroom you might want to have them off.
Hopefully Adam will budget getting the compound buildings and his house painted. You can't have the inside looking that good and have green trim outside.
I agree w/ Francis, the cabinets are already too big. When you got to Santa Barbara go to Rusty’s Pizza, Tino’s Italian Market for their in house subs and Holdrens Steak House
When drilling holes in tile, they sell mini diamond core bits at home depot, you can spray water so the bits last longer. 1/4" bit with the blue anchors is what I usually use. You can easily crack the whole tile using a drill bit and no water lol
That cabinet in the bathroom needs to be skinner. It’s too-wide.
lets go love these
the car Mike commented was probably Collete's corvette lol.
Have a heated towel hanging stand much like one for hats and jackets next to the toilet not attached to the wall.
Just had to go up in our picker in our warehouse today. Had 5 people around needing to look at parts. 30 feet up and it sways a couple feet back an forth. Sketchy but i had to keep ot cool
Proud of you Matty you went as high as a ladder I applaud you... 😂😂😂😂😂
I would build a soffit over the cabinets to make the cabinets look built in. That also would create more square footage for the loft. Might be too late in the project for that now.
🔥🔥Notification squad 🔥🔥
Every epic Metal song begins on a classical guitar, and every magical improvisation begins with jazz.
Perhaps, a free-standing towel rack between the toilet and tub?
I think that is going to be the ticket.
i gave it a like for the designer saying schluder, not gonna lie it had me rolling like how matt was
Will you put a coating on the concrete tile to give a shine? Or they like the dull no shine?
that towel hanger needs to be beside the tub, shouldn't have to walk to the door to get a towel
Have watched the whole series to date, loved 96% of it.. the tile feature wall was a great call.. I hate to be that But guy.. But 2 things kind of drive my OCD crazy about this build..
The cabinet on the vanity.. have you thought about maybe recessing into the wall to gain the extra 3.5 inch's of counter space. And make it look less dominating in the space
last one is the ceiling over the kitchen, seem like a easy way to give them more floor space upstairs, even if you gone corner to with lam beam and cross framed it. It would give at least 10-15% increase of floor space upstairs and brought the over head focal point more inline with new living rm space instead of directly over the kitchen.
Just splitting hairs at this point, client may have requested it the way it is, keep up the good work.
can't, the exterior walls are concrete so there's just 1x2's between the concrete and sheet rock.
100%. I would have expanded that loft floor over the kitchen. It would have made the loft useable for installing a few more bedrooms.
Completely agree. Planning is super difficult though, so many variables and considerations. Some things look good on paper, and then you figure out a better option halfway through the project. For me it's the small details, like the sporadic light switches- for example the master bedroom, there's a 4' wall with 4 different electrical boxes. Looks really off to me. Usually a fairly easy fix. Could have done 2, 3-gang boxes, one next to each door frame (closet entrance, and room entrance) instead of having two random single gang boxes in the middle of the wall. But there might have been something preventing them from doing that, I don't know.
I want to hear Mike I love hearing his side of stuff
id love to see matt at the top of the scissor lift 🤣
the amount of work that has gotten done in a month for a whole house remodel is actually crazy. typically this would take like 6 months to a year.
Good lord let the home owners decide where they want towel bars! And yes they can put neon in their closet if they want!
Is it possible to mount the towel rack on the glass divider on the sink side?
Imagine telling the owners of the house what they can and can't do with their house...it's the only thing the gets me rest of the job is amazing really ........
Smart people like experts guiding them. Why do you think Adam and Collete aren't here micromanaging us? Remember the Atlanta garage I did? I made every single decision down to what goes in which drawer.

Matt have you ever used or been in a Savant Automated house? You could have everything you're talking about in one app. Gates, cameras, literally anything that can be automated all in one app. Apple friendly as well. Use to install with them and it made things very seamless for clients.
I know it well. I would never do it.
$800 for a shit paper holder?!!!! 😳💀
If you go to the ceiling you should make the upper level without doors so that way you can display things or something and that way it's a decorative thing and it's a focal point of different things that need to be displayed without being intrusive in the way and possibly being destroyed
Please leave the Kitchen cabinets the way it is!
Does blue sound need a Wi-Fi network? Or can you hardware and use port forwarding to utilize your phone as streaming?
Push to 600k before the end of the project!!!
I'm here to make the decisions.
That's why you should always use a voltage pen for quick referance😎
For the toilet paper holder, it needs the paper that has 100 dollar bill printed on it. Then its complete
a wall-hung toilet would have been more elegant ! Given the very modern style of the entire renovation
The towel rack over the toilet is insane
Put the towel rack on the glass wall you're putting in between the shower and cabinet
Mike F: “mmmmhmmmm”
I could see the eyeroll off camera
The contrast with the white behind the cabinets currently is good... If you go to the ceiling all that black and you won't utilize any of that cabinet anyways. 🤷🏼♂️
Idk if anyone agrees with that lady. Shes like ok let’s make nothing usable. I want everything to make daily life more difficult. Omg that’s my favorite….
The towel holder does look dumb over both the different tiles. Looks better centered over the toilet.
Hell yeah! Talk dirty to me Matt, tell me about that audio system install 🥴
Has Matt ever tried Eska water?
If not it may be worth a try.
It's real good. Really good.
The last clip of the video 😂😂
How about mounting that master bath cabinet over the toilet?
Stripped Romex in FMC? The internet inspectors are going to have a fit. THHN would be preferred. And the conduit fill might be a little generous. Regardless, Mike is irreplaceable, and he could work on my house any day.
