- Опубліковано 4 лип 2023
- 160th Gettysburg Reenactment hosted by the Patriots of the Civil War Association (PCWA).
Army of the Ohio. 1st Battalion, 2nd Brigade. Brigade Commander Colonel Dom Dal Bello.
The Battle of Gettysburg marked the turning point of the Civil War. With more than 50,000 estimated casualties, the three-day engagement was the bloodiest single battle of the conflict
McPhersons Ridge ~ July 1 1863
Some of the fiercest fighting of the battle took place here on July 1. The ridge takes its name from the farm of Edward McPherson, whose barn still stands. The ridge rises some fifty feet above Willoughby Run to its west and is about the same height as Seminary Ridge to its east, separated by two shallow swales
Battle of the Wheatfield ~ July 2 1863
More than 20,000 men from both sides were engaged in the Wheatfield area with over 6,100 total casualties. For the next two days, the field remained largely open ground between the battle lines.
Pickett's Charge ~ July 3 1863
While the Union lost about 1,500 killed and wounded, the Confederate casualty rate was over 50%. Pickett's division suffered 2,655 casualties

Glad to see people still doing this. Keeping history alive for all of us to understand it a little better
thanks pard .. great time at the GB 160th event(s)
By the 3rd day of battle with thousands of dead men & hundreds of dead horses you can only imagine the smell of the place was interrupted by the smoke of cannon and rifles.
absolute horrors of war .. never again.
In fact, the people of Gettysburg were wearing masks in December, that is months after the battle because of the horrific smell.
There's a lot more young faces in the group than I expected to see. I'm frankly surprised and happy to see other young men in the hobby!
fun to have the energy and excitement of the younger men in camp. Thanks pard for the comment.
This was one of the best events of my whole life I'll never forget it
what "side" and what was your rank pard? I was on Sgt on the Color Guard
Note: I'm planning on attending other 160th events so stay tuned.
@@1stminnsharpshooters341 I was with the Second Wisconsin Company B Infantry I was a rifleman with our color guard
@@LORDCRIMSONANUBIANFOX Hay Pard! hope to be falling in with the 2nd WI later this year.
Probably the best taps rendition I have heard at an reenactment.
after 3 days encampted, hard marching and hard fighting it was an epic end. Thanks pard for the comment. Our group will be in the field again for 160th Chickamauga reenactment ..hope to get some great video of this event too. --LT

@@1stminnsharpshooters341 It looked like the event of the season, and if you're going out to Honey Springs Oklahoma this November, then I probably will see you around the fire!
May all those brave men who lost their lives fighting in the American civil war RIP. My grate grate great uncle lost his life fighting in WW1, Gallipoli 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺. Love the movie Gettysburg
thank you.
"Union boys will win the battles, ride away, come away, ride away, come away. We'll all go down to Dixie.."
Hazzzza pard!
Really enjoyed this field report.... loved those taps at the end and the interaction between both sides... well done!!!
glad you enjoyed this pard, an important part of the conflict IMO is to show that the conflict is long over leaving the original good willl towards our neighboring states. --LT
@@1stminnsharpshooters341 agreed.
Well done, John. You got some stellar shots (no pun intended).
I like the pun :-) thanks for the comment pard.
Absolutely epic footage!!!! Man this looked like so much fun!
Makes me want to get back into CW reenacting
@@HistorySavior1941 we'll keep a spot open in ranks pard for your return.,

OUTSTANDING! Pickett's charge was epic!! Well done by all involved
thanks pard .. of course even more real in person ..
@@1stminnsharpshooters341 absolutely was! I was actually one of the dismounted cav to your right o7
I was in that charge
I was at the 145th and 50th. Wish I could have made it to this one, but duty called elsewhere.
hope you can make the next "big" one pard.
Looks like a great event. I really liked the use of the 4 rows to provide more continuous fire.
first time for me experiencing the 4 rows of firing - as you can imagine this can deliver a solid punch. THANKS pard for the comment.
Yeah that was intense. Of all the videos that have popped up, this is the only one I'm in. Luckily for my height, I was in the 4th row.
We should never forget history this is glorious that they can do this reenactment beautiful I love this very much Gettysburg Battle means so much to me.
Incredible I remember looking both ways and seeing a line of our men and you had my hit in there wish I could have met ya but awesome video
such an epic event and very hard fought battels ... hope to see you pard on the field or around the camp fire. --LT
Do they let you take those videos
one thing i really like with civil war erea reenactment is the diffrent age and morphologies of the reenactors , id made this for me more authentic and representative of the conflict.
I’m with you pard. Like to see family’s around camp
Awesome!
just a great time .. each battle was hard fought
Just love the way you guys renact your history. I was once in the English Civil War society. Happy days with your fellow regiment playing out Battles.
But you Americans have a lot more people and therefore looks like the real thing. Carry on guys, and remember, keep you powder dry. 😂
Thanks Pard for sharing your love of history and the lifetime of memories you ha with the English Civil War Group ... we just got back from a 5 day trip for large 160th anniversary's of the Battle of Chickamauga -- just a great time with our pards in camp and around the camp fire. Sending you a personal invite to follow (Subscribe) to our channel and follow along on the adventure -- LT
Great Job on the movie
thanks pard!
@@1stminnsharpshooters341 your welcome and I wish I could have made it
That rain at 1:12 and prior to Picket's charge. God bless those men.
the art of keeping you are your gear dry in a shelter half
The rain was rough the first day. During Pickett's Charge, it actually felt nice.
That was awesome!
largest event that I've attend since the 155th Gettysburg - very immersive and hard for my camera to capture just how many Rebels took the field.
It rained on me when I went to the 150th. XD Good times.
The humidity after it stopped was nuts! I was in remarkably good shape however, I felt at home with Pennsy humidity! California humidity sucks! But it is part of life here.
I was at the 150thGB has my first large event as well pard. My musket looked like it aged 20 years in one day with all the rust from the high humidity (and not enough oil). We were a campaigner unit and we marched and fought in full kit. THANKS pard for the comment.
@@1stminnsharpshooters341 Which one? There was June and July, I attended the June.
There were a lot of re-enactors there, I wish that I could have gone, but I couldn't afford it and it was a bad weekend anyway. My Mother In Law died and it was here funeral on that weekend.
RIP to your Mother in Law Pard family duties are always number one.
God bless you and your family.
Enjoy the 160th Gettysburg. Hooaah! 4:50 Beautiful music around camp fire, marching cadence, barn dance social-what’s there not to love?
Truly one of the events of a lifetime pard.
I missed this one unfortunately. I’m way out in CA.
Are they having it again next year?
During Taps, correct me if im wrong, you would present arms if you were under arms, and not take your hat off and salute right? Might be wrong on it but im unsure.
good question pard, I'm not sure of the answer but in the 1860's the manual could be different from today's. What you see in the video is (hat off at taps) is commonly done at reenactments. Welcome others comments.
I love Gettysburg I can't believe I missed this ! UGH !!
Great time pard and of course the 160th drew in more folks (including us from Minnesota) - perhaps next time. Have a good one. --LT
thank you for playing " HELL ON THE WABASH"
You got it pard. One of my favorites
This was a great event!
it was pard. What "side" where you on and what was your position? For this event I was Union Color guard - serving both carrying the colors and in defence of the colors.
I was a union private. Based on where you were in the line, I was 2 companies to your left! Also, I believe my units corporal fell in with the color guard.
Y’all union boys look like y’all had fun
We also had a to. Of fun
We did thanks to Johnny Reb ... wish I had a camera rolling on the CSA side to capture the action and effort on this side of the line ... some day. Thanks pard for the comment.
favorited sound clip "run away Billy!"
omg wish i could have been there
thats part of the reason I like to capture the event on video ... not everyone can attend, but you can see some of the highlights.
Next year I might be at Gettysburg
Re-Enactors PSH, #skirmisklife #N-SSA. (j/k, never reenacted before. Bet it's a good time)
Wish I could have been there, but heard the air was full of chemicals
If you are referring to air quality issue - I didn't notice any issues - of course it was humid. perhaps next time.
@@1stminnsharpshooters341 no and yes, I was referring to those wrecks that spilled toxic gas into the air
4 ranks to deliver fire.
And the mönchshof lager beer
I was with the 149th PA
Hazzzaa for the 149th PA - did I/we get a clip of you group in the video? if so can you provide the mm:ss time?
Bullshit, you didn’t get sponge cake made by maidens, you got hardtack full of weevils, and beans.
"connections" pards
More info: Soldiers did NOT have such fine meals - living off government rations and foraging when possible. In the video, I had stopped by my civilian friends camp - these camps represented the towns people of Gettysburg and as you can see they enjoyed a much easier life.
I think that Pickett was the only one who didn't charge ?
How do persons know when they are hit. Is it just a "ugh I feel like taking a hit or dying right now moment"? Thanks for the video. These reenactments are pretty cool. No fake gore?
I think they have cards that they might randomly pull out when they reload that says "dead" on it.
I’m not sure how it works but I’ve heard there’s some sort of dice roll system when your line takes a volley, or their reloads are randomly colored and if they pull a certain color they have to fall down at the next volley. Something like that.
So I was at Gettysburg this and I was one of the reanacorts I'm actually in this video around the 1:15-1:20 and you know your hit because you get cards and you will be told 1, 2 ,all red cards ext hope that answers your questions
who wonn this battle..
Hey Pard - good question ... this battle was one by the Union and to many considered the turning point on the Civil War -- here a clip for a bit more info won by the Union, is widely considered the Civil War's turning point,

And wheres the german weißwurst and saur crout and Bratwurst hehehe
The sheer number of actors is impressive. However, something about all the obese fellas makes it more unconvincing. Opinion.
Lol
Where's the black people
You get a prize for this comment my man.
I was watching this video stone faced thinking exactly the same thing.
I ran a USCT unit in the late 90s as a Lieutenant...about 20 young men in a scout troop (16 to 18years old). the scout master was the sgt. The den mother ran the camp and a brother Confederate unit loaned the tents since the troop had modern tents only. Our unit never got anything but welcome, praise and comradery from other units. The troop loved baseball, so there were a lot of camp games in the late afternoon.
There are a few dedicated USCT platoons in the country, and some Buffalo Soldiers mounted units will sometimes drop back 5 or 10 years from their primary Wild West impression to do CW.
I also did programs alongside the Free Men of Color 1814-1815 Battle of New Orleans commemorative events for 20 years.
It is a volunteer hobby, and a rather expensive one. If people show no interest, then they aren't represented.
