  • The Civil War Battle of Perryville took place on October 8, 1862. This video was filmed at the reenactment, 160 years, and one day later.
    In September 1862, the states of the Union were experiencing an invasion by two Confederate Armies. Robert E. Lee’s Army of North Virginia in Maryland and Braxton Bragg’s Army of Mississippi in Kentucky, not to mention Edmund Kirby Smith’s Army of East Tennessee, who Bragg was hoping to link up with in Kentucky to defeat the Union forces there.
    Once Bragg entered Kentucky, Don Carlos Buell’s Army of the Ohio gave chase into the Bluegrass State. Bragg could have engaged Buell around Louisville, but decided to link up with Smith, who was near Lexington and Richmond. Bragg himself, went to Frankfort and installed a Confederate governor and then rejoined his army southwest of Lexington. Buell secured both Louisville and marched toward Bragg’s Army concentrating near the town of Perryville.
    The Battle of Perryville opened at about 3 AM on October 8, 1862.

    Y'all put on a real fine showing for the folks up there. I was thinking of y'all very early Saturday morning, wondering if y'all were silently getting tickled at so many of us native southerners calling it "cold" that morning lol. Y'all brought some beautiful thunder to Kty. this year, another fine video, and as always God bless all of you good people and yours.

      My great papaw was in the 33rd VA. Infantry in the Stonewall brigade and he fought in MD. at Sharpsburg that same fall of 1862. Lee’s invasions of MD. and PA. get most of the focus and the various KY. invasions by John Hunt Morgan that even got up across the river into Indiana and Ohio don’t get as much focus. Of course at Perryville it was regular confederate forces that invaded whereas John Hunt Morgan was like John Singleton Mosby an irregular confederate partisan

    The gun drill is awful.

    • @1stminnsharpshooters341
      @1stminnsharpshooters341  Рік тому +1

      how so pard? Keep in mind that each Battery that I've fallen in with as a different interpretation of the same drill manual.

    • @mackenzieblair8135
      @mackenzieblair8135 Рік тому

      @@1stminnsharpshooters341 there really shouldn’t be ‘different interpretations.’ The manual is the manual.
      I’m in the LR and 1st Section and we do the drill as it’s prescribed in the manual.
      The most glaring, and most dangerous, problem is the #4. None of them are standing as prescribed and illustrated in the manual and they’re pulling the lanyard immediately after the command ‘FIRE’ while looking away from the piece. This is incredibly dangerous and you should never do it. At the command ‘FIRE’ the #3 should step away from the vent while the #4 remains looking at the piece and the other 3 cannoneers. Once he determines that the piece is clear, he then will pull the lanyard and look away while pulling in a downward motion to protect his face from the flying hook and any possible fragments of the primer.
      The command ‘FIRE’ doesn’t fire the gun. It gives control of the gun over to the #4 and it is then at his discretion to declare the piece safe to fire and then actually fire the piece.
      There is plenty of other stuff wrong, but that is the most pressing infraction that should be corrected. No #4 should be looking away from the gun at the command ‘READY’ and blindly pulling the lanyard at the command ‘FIRE.’
