I had to pause to come here and say this: NEVER let that child you have in you die or go away. It's the most precious part of you (and any of us, really), and so many people shy away from it, let it fade away, while you revel in it. Keep doing that, Alex. You'll be ever the better for it.

That clean riff that starts right after the 3 2 0 intro, it's one of the darkest riffs they've ever written. It feels like impending doom and death were translated onto six strings. It's really fitting for the lyrical content. By far one of my favorite Metallica songs.

This song described my upbringing perfectly. The way I got over it was by forgiving my abuser. But let me be clear. It wasn’t for them. It was for me. It literally helped me get over my pain, hate, anger, and misery. Plus! Playing the guitar Right along with the album helped a lot!🤟🤘🎸
this hits hard. i was abused by my dad growing up and was definitely driven to the point of wanting to kill him. the only thing that stopped me was not wanting to traumatize my little brother
Fade to Black, Harvester, Wasted My Hate & St Anger are a good view inside James’ head of the evolution of emotional pain over a long period of years. Great job on the analysis and reaching out to your audience too mate.
One the best songs of Justice, never knew what it was about, just sounded cool. I never pay too much attention to what the song is about and just pay attention to the hooks and solos and riffs and such
Alex, I've been rockin out to Metallica from the early beginnings... I was in middle school (I'm 51 now, damn time goes by ha ha). But you do something I never did, you closely follow the lyrics, meaning, and have a real appreciation for the details in the music. Huge props for that Alex. I've actually learned more about these songs I've been listening to for so many years from your videos. Thanks man! It's great to see.

I just wanted to thank you for being there for people that hurt. Sometimes all you need is a friend. It warms my heart to know that you're willing to be that friend.
My favorite track on the album. Love the whole aspect of it. I think it would go more with me being bullied growing up. And this song would be one of my baptisms of fire. But the instrumentation, flow and structure is top notch for sure. Great song and great album!
You know I’ve thought this for a long time now since I’ve been watching you for over a year now- you are an amazing person! You bring joy to so many by being yourself. You have a lot to be proud of young man. It’s a pleasure to come along on this ride of life with you watching you grow. Don’t ever change!
You're such a good dude bro!!!! I was going through all that same stuff when this album first came out. Remember picking it up day 1, listening to the jams and thinking exactly what you said, "these kats understand". Love and respect man.
I understand when you say you had gone through those times in childhood. I have too faced bad times as a child. Was almost murdered twice. Had seen beatings, blood, abuse, screaming, lies and an uncertain future. Though these things remain no more, I want to say that all these exact bad things do come back in life. Like a cycle. Once gone, but came back after 11 years. But peace once again. I love Metal. I love Metallica. I am from India ❤️
I remember them playing this at Monsters of Rock in 88 and it blew me away! My girlfriend asked me about my mood change, she was always able to sense the turmoil within myself, especially when I would fighting with those old demons. Anyway, I think that was June or July. Can't remember for sure as I did a lot of L.S.D. back then. And Justice For All wasn't released until September. It took me awhile to accept Jason Newsted, but he definitely earned my respect that day, I remember thinking that Cliff was probably smiling and giving Jason the thumbs up because he fucking crushed it. I was blessed to have been able to see Cliff live July 26th on their Damage Inc. tour where they opened for OZZY! A great fucking show, as well as my craziest and favorite concert story. I digress.... Cliff was taken from us soon after on September 27th. I remember those days because one was one of my best days, and the other was one of my worst. I heard the news of Cliff's death when my friend Scott Burton called to tell me. Now I didn't know Cliff, and had never met the man, but I was surprised to find myself actually crying. I had never been that emotional about someone I've never met. R.I.P. Cliff🍻💔😭🤘 I still miss you every god-damned day!!!!! About this song, and the message. It is very powerful to me as well. There are times when I have to hold myself back, instead of reacting to things others do and say that fills me with rage! The thing is, most of the time they aren't even aware of what they are doing, most likely because they had a normal and decent childhood. Me, not so much. But still, I push that hate down and release it in positive outlets. But, man, sometimes I really want to let that shit out and go on a motherfucking rampage!!!! I never will. But I wish people would quit being assholes. It would make things a lot easier. Be safe out there people! MENTAL MIDGETS ARE EVERYWHERE! Good night Good luck Good grief SLAVA UKRAIN 🇺🇦✊💔😭 "RUSSIANS GO FUCK YOURSELVES!" Ukrainian13 "FUCK RUSSIA!" Me

Thank you for these Alex. I've been rocking metal since I was a teenager and just screamed and sang these lyrics without context. "Reaction" videos let me see these in another point of view, now as an adult, analyzing the lyrics and album context 👍🏻
The live version of this song in Moscow is intense. Metallica- whether it’s slow or heavy or country (mama said) convey intensity and emotion better then anyone
Big memories for me what I was in my teens and early 20 ´s Well done for putting this stuff out . This is what the Internet can do . Not the toxic crap it gets used for by many on social media etc .
Thank you for your honest reaction. Never really knew what this song was about. Because english is not my native language, I listen to songs as a whole, so does the singing fit into the music is more important to me than the lyrics itself.
This song was always a standout for me back when it was released, even though "One" was the big single and it was news that Metallica actually made a video (it was their first one ever), Harvester was always my favourite though!
Remember that shit was 24/7 on MTV! Lol getting ready for school turn on MTV...one. Getting home from school turn on MTV...one. finish home work and fucking around with friends turn on MTV...one. And get better every day that I see you your commentary on the music that we've all grown up on or experience through different emotional periods of our life really bring us together as one. I look forward to every new clip that you share. Keep rocking! Stay safe stay sane.."THE KAT"
I’d be curious to see how you react to the “Load” album. It’s a huge change of pace from the first 5 albums and while it’s controversial among hardcore fans, I actually like it. The album isn’t as heavy or fast, but it’s more blues and country inspired. It’s still Metallica, it’s just not thrash era Metallica. They’ve come more full circle with Death Magnetic and Hardwired, but I’d be really interested in how you would react to the slower, more deliberately paced and blues heavier Load album.
Thoughts on a lot of their material changed for me when I heard about the deal with his upbringing and his mom's own ordeal. As for this song, its a pretty great track and really fit the AJFA album. I love the song name so much it became a handle for me on another forum. You really feel the lyrics came from a deep place inside him and the tone of the music fits that reality to him.
This song is a tough one. I had a fucked up childhood too. I'm 28 and still kinda dealing with it.🤦🏻♂️ But we survived goddammit! I've been loving the full album reactions! Can't wait for you to hear the rest of this one. There's some good songs coming up. 🤘🏻
Going on 27 and can relate with unfortunate trauma as a kid and still have to deal with that sh*t fro my memories to this very day. Having to be on meds, spent 10 years of my life in therapy and diagnosed with multiple disorders. Alex hit it perfectly, a child’s life should be innocent and enjoyed... but unfortunately selfishness from people who are supposed to be your protectors and guidance through life causes so much pain which equals a sense of betrayal. Beautifully dark song in Harvester of Sorrow which next to To Live is To Die as one of my favorites off of AJfA.
I have played this song over and over so many times never really getting past the music, but now it all kinda makes sense a bit. And please, keep up the great work! So glad I stumbled across your videos. No one is ever alone...
Two things made this video great: 1. The depth of the lyrics written by a then 20-some year old metal god. 2. Alex could read the phone book and be extremely entertaining. 🤩
I never read the lyrics to this one before and some of them I'd misheard which are key to the meaning but still it's not one that I would have said is immediately obvious
This may be one of their darker songs.. But this song live is amazing (IMO) and glad I can mark it off my checklist of songs that I wanted to hear live 🤘🏻🤘🏻

Do I dare to suggest a full LOAD reaction like this? It's not as trashy but it's intense and the lyrics... Next level
My favorite Metallica album and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
this hits hard. i was abused by my dad growing up and was definitely driven to the point of wanting to kill him. the only thing that stopped me was not wanting to traumatize my little brother
I never pay too much attention to what the song is about and just pay attention to the hooks and solos and riffs and such
One of the best metal songs ever, period.
@@PD-hz8se That's easy to say when it's Metallica
Alex, I've been rockin out to Metallica from the early beginnings... I was in middle school (I'm 51 now, damn time goes by ha ha). But you do something I never did, you closely follow the lyrics, meaning, and have a real appreciation for the details in the music. Huge props for that Alex. I've actually learned more about these songs I've been listening to for so many years from your videos. Thanks man! It's great to see.
Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
My life suffocates, planting the seeds of hate
I've loved, turned to hate, trapped far beyond my fate
I give, you take this life that I forsake
Been cheated of my youth, you've turned this lie to truth
[Pre-Chorus]
Anger, misery you'll suffer unto me
[Chorus]
Harvester of sorrow (Language of the mad)
Harvester of sorrow
[Verse 2]
Pure black looking clear, my work is done soon here
Try getting back to me, get back which used to be
Drink up, shoot in, let the beatings begin
Distributor of pain, your loss becomes my gain
[Pre-Chorus]
Anger, misery you'll suffer unto me
[Chorus]
Harvester of sorrow (Language of the mad)
Harvester of sorrow
[Verse 3]
All have said their prayers, invade their nightmares
To see into my eyes, you'll find where murder lies
Infanticide
[Chorus]
Harvester of sorrow (Language of the mad)
Harvester of sorrow (Language of the mad)
[Outro]
Harvester of sorrow
Harvester of sorrow
Harvester of sorrow
Harvester of sorrow
Harvester of sorrow
Harvester of sorrow
Man I love this band. Truly helped me in life with their music and words man. Glad you can see the meanings man
Watch this live version in Moscow’91 sometime.
Insane show that day.
Harvester and sorrow are my 2 most favorite songs of metallica. Justice is in my top 10 albums of all time
Metallica has been my favorite band for like 35 years! Love them!
EPIC reaction Alex.....as always!!! You send great messages....well done....keep the faith brother!!
R.I.P. Cliff🍻💔😭🤘
I still miss you every god-damned day!!!!!
Good night
Good luck
Good grief

I grew up in an absolute shit show...and I'm using it as a guide of what NOT to do with my children.
Make their life BETTER than mine despite the hell I endured!!!
Your happiness and positivity is so infectious!!!
Yep I saw what not to do, it isn’t mandatory to make life so hard with addictions, anger and ignorance.
Exactly what I do too!
Thank you for these Alex. I've been rocking metal since I was a teenager and just screamed and sang these lyrics without context. "Reaction" videos let me see these in another point of view, now as an adult, analyzing the lyrics and album context 👍🏻
Dog being a great backup vocal
Frayed ends of sanity my #1 favorite metallica song. Lets get it!!! Cant wait for that reaction.
The live version of this song in Moscow is intense. Metallica- whether it’s slow or heavy or country (mama said) convey intensity and emotion better then anyone
Big memories for me what I was in my teens and early 20 ´s
Well done for putting this stuff out . This is what the Internet can do . Not the toxic crap it gets used for by many on social media etc .
I’ve heard this song probably 200+ times and your reaction just opened up a whole new view and hearing of it
Thanks Alex
After dinner shower getting ready to hit the sack, turn on MTV for Metallica ambient one for sleep...Bangles eternal flame. Wtf 🤣🤣🤣
I Love how genuine and how much of a good person alex is we all need good people in our life who understand trauma and just want to make the world a better place thats me one goal in life to be good to others for multiple reason but mainly for the reason that everyone is going through stuff strangers or not and we all need to show a little love and appreciation for one another it would make the world a sincerly better place good up the good work alex keep spreading positivity and keep listening to some banger songs with banger riffs 😂🧡🤘
I love how NOBODY recommends the iconic Seattle concert!
That's what half the comments are doing yo. Unless you were just being sarcastic
Ah. Not only my favorite song off that album to listen to. But To play as well. Always been on the list of many bands I've been in over the years. Not just that it's a great jam. But, the words speak to so many of us.
We're finally there boys, it's time for the frayed ends of sanity!
EYeahha
You ARE AWESOME!!
Im glad youre listening to this, it was my first CD (i was like 5) and its always had a nostalgic place in my heart
Lyrics are so deep. It reminds me of my father a bit. He’s so miserable and he enjoys making other people feel like shit with his degrading comments.
This song is a precursor to what they will sound like on the black album. Probably one of the best metallica song
You should react to this same song's Live Version in Moscow 1991.
Slow doesn't mean not heavy! Next song is insane.
Love to see you do the Ride the Lightning album!
You said that beautifully: be always kind to people, you don't know what they have been through You're a good guy. I mean that.
28 here too, it only ended 2 years ago unfortunately
@@michaelcole-hamer607 I'm happy that it ended. Some people never escape it. Recovery is a lifelong struggle unfortunately. ✌🏻
There always seems to be one that hits home with Metallica and James’ lyrics specifically. Well done, and good on ya, bro.
Never knew the meaning behind this track
I never read the lyrics to this one before and some of them I'd misheard which are key to the meaning but still it's not one that I would have said is immediately obvious
i would say this is about abortion, ultimately
Sorry you had that happen to you. I'm glad that music is there to help people like us through the things that cause us pain.
Thank you So Much For this Nostalgic Experience, Metallica Gods among Men 🖤🤘🏼
I wish I could listen to this for the first time again
This may be one of their darker songs.. But this song live is amazing (IMO) and glad I can mark it off my checklist of songs that I wanted to hear live 🤘🏻🤘🏻
So cool what you are doing man! Please listen to them all! Can't wait to see you listening to garage Inc's cover album or even the shift on st. Anger 🤘
The “Pure black, looking clear..my work is done soon here...” verse is still to this day my favourite piece of lyricism of all time. Masterpiece.
One of my favorite METALLICA tracks!!
