While live play-alongs and drum solos are always awesome, Benny Greb brought his band, Moving Parts (with guitarist Chris Montague and bassist Janek Gwizdala) to grace the stage at the 2020 Drumeo Festival. The song in this video is called “Nodding Hill”, and it includes a treat of a solo where Benny showcases his incredible sense of time, creativity with sounds, fast feet and seemingly effortless execution - all while encouraging the audience to clap along while he displaces the downbeat. There’s a reason we’re so full of praise for Benny - watch and you’ll see why.

I can’t understand the amount of creativity, technique, groove and preciseness Benny plays with
One of the vocal tutors at my University used to go to University with him and a friend of hers lived with him if I remember correctly.
She once told me he would skip out on most social gatherings to play and practice drums all day, ever day and showing off the sick solos he learned in the evenings...that amount of discipline is perhaps even more impressive to me 😂
Go learn some drumming basics and you'll quickly understand. it's not voodoo.

It’s all about what you Hear in your head... Think and Sing 64ths... 32nds... 16ths... and different Accents and polyrhythms while singing.... that’s all... lol
I'm pretty sure that most people in the crowd are drummers. They all clap while maintaining the tempo as well haha
Exactly what I thought! Only at a drum festival can you trust the crowd to keep the beat while you solo.
It was incredible. Never have I been in a crowd that was so in time. Haha

At the second half of the solo, repeating the pattern the audience is clapping to before each break, just so they don't get lost, is a genius detail for me
Drumming is a mix of mathematics and poetry.
There are only a handful of audiences that could keep on clapping like that. Benny knew what he could work with and it was perfect
Benny Greb is on another level of drumming. The amount of accuracy, consistency, and the ability to read off of a crowd is absolutely amazing! I hope I get the honor of meeting him some day!

Jonhattan Benny makes plenty of mistakes. The key is turning his mistakes into victories, which he has a knack for doing every single time.

As drummer i am personally a Thomas Lang fanboy but I cannot help to be amazed by Benny Greb's musical genius and the feel every time I see him play.
one of the most tasteful drummers ever, not just trying the annihilate the drum kit with a display of technical abilities with no real musical sense, but placing his tremendous ability and creativity to produce a very musical and tasteful sound on his own, really remarkable as is always the case with him
And this ladies and gents is why jam band is the best music genre.

Im glad we get to see benny greb make mistakes in his playing, it makes us not feel so afraid about playing something incorrectly and feeling disappointed with ourselves (for me at least). Mistakes aside though, killer performance from him and the band as always. Gotta love that guitar player!
The drummer is always the king of the band. This is why they sit on the throne.

Not really the lighting since the lighting would be the same for all the performers. Those cymbals have a very flat finish and from what it looks like, little to no lathing. They almost have a sand blasted finish so you don't see much shine.
That has to have been the most wholesome intro to a song i’ve seen in my whole life..
