You can always glean a lot about who is an expert in their field -- it is by the ease with which they can explain complex issues in ways everyone can understand. This was awesome, thanks Benny!
How is this even possible? I was searching for exactly this video 3 days ago, because I remembered that I saw this some months ago, but couldn't find it! And now here it is - amazing! Can you read people's minds?! Danke, Benny, Du bist der Hammer!
Benny Greb is the perfect name for a drummer. Until I watched some of his vids, I thought he was a 70 year old Jazz legend! Well, he's quickly becoming a legend
One little five minute video... Clearly wasn't planned, cuz an audience member asked the question, and he had to think about it.... And yet he still explains it better than anyone else out there. After watching so many videos about this, Benny makes it all fall into place. Mein lieblingsdrummer lol.
Watched this video a couple of months ago and have been looking for it ever since. Went back to 40 bpm with his alphabet using this technique and my foot has progressed so much. As you said to us in your clinic in Johannesburg, thank you.
Es ist echt krass wie gut man ihm zuhören kann! Er ist einfach lustiger als jeder Comedian und man lernt als Drummer so unglaublich viel von ihm. #gapclickandthelanguageofdrummingarethebest
ok, yep. just keep playing that beat... at the end there. just like that, Benny. Yes. the beat of my life. here I go - walking out the door now. living my life. no, no... don't stop. keep playing. just like that
My hat's off to you! You managed to complete a really great 5 minute lesson even while taking almost half to make jokes! :-) Very impressive and super great sound on the kit. I'm sadly unfamiliar with your music but will be checking out your channel.
So when you want a single bass stroke you lift your hip and tap or do you lift your hip and let it fall as a dead meat? Benny you are one of my favorite drummer by far thank you, I bought last year language of drumming still working on it, is amazing, the foundation of the drumming journey..
awesome. In a natural and easy way he describes the complex thing that made people flock to Freddie Gruber, Bruce Becker, Jim Chapin and Moeller himself ("ooh Moeller"- Tommy Igoe lol). Basically foot version of moeller stroke. Good stuff
Hello Sir! Great video, as always. My foot sucks and I need your help... 1. Do you ever bury a beater? 2. If so, what is the the rule: how long it stays in the head? I know that you don't try to overthink this and it's already build in, but maybe you can elaborate on this. 3. Let's say you need to play quarter notes in 10 bmp, do you drop your whole foot on the pedal imidiately or: first, you drop your ball and resting whole foot is separate step. 4. How do you avoid pain in your tigh when your leg is suspended for tapping. How "you" keep your foot in relaxed state all the time since your starting point isn't "buried" position? Thank you, take care!
Amazing drummer. I’ve seen this technique referred to as “hop and drop” technique. Has worked well for me especially for accenting second beat of double stroke. And can be a starting point for development of toe heel technique (similar but reverse motion of heel toe). Heel toe has worked well for accenting first beat of double stroke or no accent (like doubles between hands and feet). IME, these techniques take many years of practice to obtain consistent rhythmic accuracy.
Hello! Greetings from 🇵🇭 Does anybody know here the kick pattern that Benny did? I heard that too from korean high school drum battle and I want to practice it too!
It depends if you are going for speed or for power. For example, for speed you would want the tension to be tight so you don't have to do any work for the beater to come back from the head
Benny the Stand-Up Comedian Drummer
He does sound more like a comedian, than a jazz legend. Nice!
gotta love him
Benny the sit down comedian.. 😒
When Benny talks, I listen. I enjoy it as much as his playing.
Only Benny can make me laugh and inspire me to practice
His jokes are as good as his drumming
Safe to say Benny grebbed my attention 😭🤣🤣
Benny is an incredible drummer and amazing educator as well. It’s rare to find both in a drummer at his level!
Speed..... What a great word! Speed is nothing without technical approach
that's what happens when you're one of the best drummers in the world and hang out with Bill Burr
Benny was always a silly goose
@@rippindrummer666 100%, his humor is completely different than Burr's... the veins on Benny's neck don't pop when he tells a joke... 😂
I went to the clinic here in Argentina in 2019, I had to travel from my city to Buenos Aires, but it was worth it. I enjoyed a lot.
Best drum teacher on the planet! Peace from Detroit MI.
This video simply cleared most of my 8 months drumming experience doubts with bass drum technique. Danke schön Benny!

Benny Greb is a drumming treasure
Benny as always reveals to be one of the funniest educators ever. as well as the great Dom Damularo.
Famularo, and yep!
Super agree! Both of them. Fom Famularo and him. Always. 😂😂😂
Thanks Benny, went right to the kit, and instantly had a better double....
The funniest drummer of our time.
Very engaging speaker!
he made it soo simple and I found out it is that simple finally

This video unlocked so much for me when I first saw it a few years ago. Beautiful explanation.

I could not keep the beater off the head for the life of me. This brought it all together for me.

I learned more with this 5 minutes video than 5 hours of lessons

I always do this heel down motion way back in 2007 when i was into drumming...about to begin the journey as a drummer..
I get it all of a sudden
Ah bon ?! Tu parles français ? Très bien ! C'est parfait.

2:00 does it means that raise my knee primary, and the foot and the leg is following the knee raising?

It was uploaded previously also but after few days I couldn't find it. IDK why it was removed
I cant get the beater come off the bd head. I try to relax as much as possible but I still end up burying the beater. Any tips for this?
Its a pity that there is only like button, I would send the heart better

How tight should you have tension on the pedal? I.e. In relaxed state is the beater in contact with the bassdrum - cheerios
It depends if you are going for speed or for power. For example, for speed you would want the tension to be tight so you don't have to do any work for the beater to come back from the head
@@SkyOrchid What about precision?
My man's about to end Armisen's WHOLE career (if you know what I mean)
Needed to see his foot
"très bien c'est parfait"😂
You speak french now Benny ¿?
Subtítulos al español?
Is that the heel toe technique ?
The complete opposite
